IMO, Red Eye is one of the most underrated thrillers from the early 2000s, and probably Wes Craven’s most underrated film. The airplane setting, the initial chemistry and what almost seemed like a Rom-Com meet-cute but quickly turns into a cat and mouse game between Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams, and slasher-Scream style chase scenes in the third act. And all in a quick 90 minutes.
Love this movie especially when she stabs him with her heel!!
This movie has been on my watch list for so long and I still haven’t gotten to it! I’m so sorry
Yes, I love that movie so much.
@@alexschofield8085don’t be! Go at your own pace.
Yes! I love Red Eye (2005) so much! It flies under the radar way too much for how amazing it is.
Speaking of Leelee Sobieski, Joyride is a magnificent thriller. It’s one of my favorite movies ever. 😊
Joy Ride is awesome, so creepy.
Yes! I was just going to say this!
Have you seen the sequels and are they any good?
*SAME!* That movie _never_ gets old!
@@mar.v. are there sequels? 😆😬
i recommend Disturbing Behaviour as a late 90s thriller/teen horror
MALICE (1993) is one the best thrillers of all time. It’s a crime how underrated it is.
The Glass House is one of my faves! I also really love Single White Female (1992), The Crush (1993), and The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976).
The Crush with Alicia Silverstone?
Yeah!
@@nite_owl13 God (Not really) I love her. Clueless is one of my favorite movies. I just recently saw 3 movies with her that she must have done recently. They weren't that great but she still looks damn good.
I love that last one!
@@shortinsomniac76 The one in the storm?
One of my favourites is Red Lights (2012) Sigourney Weaver, Cillian Murphy and Robert De Niro are all amazing in it, and the story is quite unsettling
YES, I love it. It is awesome, I’m surprised it wasn’t bigger.
I think the movie "Frailty" is a lesser known, hidden grm psychological thriller with an amazing twist ending!
I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it yet...
Ryan Gossling scared me so much in Murder By Numbers, that
took me years to see him as cute and charming 😂 Now I want to see Stay and hopefully it wont bring those feelings back 😂😂
While maybe a bit more horror than thriller I LOVE Stir of Echoes! I just rewatched it recently and it’s just got the best 90’s vibe and has some great visuals especially during the hypnotizing scene. Would recommend looking up trigger warnings for anyone who is interested though just in case :)
Yes!! Love this one. It was so surprisingly good and engaging. When I found out it was based on Richard Matheson’s work? 😘👌
I also highly recommend Time Lapse from 2014. It's my favorite underrated thriller and have never heard anyone talk about it!
I am OBSESSED with Time Lapse!! And you are right, no one seems to have seen it! I recommend it to people all the time!
A few years ago I stumbled across a movie called "The Factory". It is a 2012 crime thriller that apparently went straight to DVD when it came out. Stars John Cusack and Jennifer Carpenter. I would highly recommend. I saw it once and now watch it every Thanksgiving (has nothing to do with the holiday other than it takes place during Thanksgiving time). Great cast and I NEVER hear people talk about this. Love this one.
I loved the glasshouse when I was super young! I still remember watching it in the 2nd grade and absolutely loving it. Even as a child, I loved horror films and horror themes.
I know you have talked about it many times before which is probably why it isn't on this list but one of the best ever has got to be Coherence. I will never get tired of talking about that film. So crazy and mind-bending that it makes my head physically hurt. I have watched it at least 5 times and when I think about it I still don't understand it. EVERYONE needs to know about it 😭
It was a good one!
yesss it was incredible!! definitely don’t need to have an expensive budget to make a good film
The Forgoten and Glass House were both excellent. Can't wait to dive into the other three. Thanks Sarah!
Glass House was great!
Glass House is so good. Always love Leelee!
“Stay” is one of my all time favorite films. I cry like Niagara Falls every time in the last five minutes!
@possessedbyhorror - Check out the director commentary where they infer that there are things you should be “counting” in the background!
The forgotten was actually one of the earliest “scary” movies I was allowed to watch, used to have the dvd back in the late 2000s when I was a kid and would watch it over and over again
Looooove the glass house!! So crazy
Yessss I haven't seen it in years but also love it.
I absolutely love "Stay." Thank you for mentioning it, I feel like nobody really talks about.
I love “The Jacket” from 2005 I think, with Adrien Brody and Kiera Knightly
For a double feature night, I'd like to mention two films that are rarely spoken about today...They both star Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd ..They are "Kiss The Girls", and "Along Came A Spider"...Two more thrillers that's worth watching are "Don't Say A Word" with Michael Douglas & Brittany Murphy, and "The Game" with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn...Enjoy everyone!📺📼📀📺📼📀
These are my favourite kind of films… broody crime thrillers from 90’s- early 2000’s.
I can’t explain it but they give me a cozy feeling.
If you think of anymore, let me know!
Loooooove Kiss the Girls
I recommend The Loved Ones (2009).
I watched it for the first time last night and I loved it.
I loved that movie when I was younger, I never hear anyone talk about it
Some of my favorites are fatal attraction, sleeping with the enemy, the good son, the hand that rocks the cradle, single white female, what lies beneath.
I was always on the fence about Glass House now I’ll have to check it out. Mothman Prophecies from 2002 is insanely underrated. Same era (it came out shortly after 9/11 as well which actually makes the subtext even more creepy) Stay is brilliant I remember seeing it in the theatre twice. I think its Gosling’s best performance to date. The scene in the night club with the Massive Attack song playing is cinema gold. I kind of feel like David Lynch could have ghost directed it. Early 2000’s really had some gems!
Mothman was so good!
Mothman is one of those movies that i will watch whenever it comes on tv, its such fun, also if you like it youll probably enjoy Fallen with Denzel Washinton they fit similar niches for me
Chris Stuckmann has a brilliant breakdown of Stay. I highly recommend watching it. So many things I didn't catch. So under-rated
Don't think I've seen any of these except for The Glass House. Thanks for the recommendations! I recently watched The Vanishing and thought it was really great (don't know if it's considered a "hidden gem" though). Also might not be a perfect movie, but I LOVED the atmosphere and feeling of "The Cry of the Owl", which I don't think I've ever hear mentioned.
I know that you've made a water related horror movie list. Could we also perhaps have one, about movies with thunderstorm scenes? It's very stormy in Greece atm, and I would loove some recommendations 🤪
Take Shelter!
She did a rainy movie list, not specifically thunderstorms, she she has a rainy/gloomy movie video.
glass house was a childhood favorite of mine!
The Watcher movie was really good I think. Slow burner but builds up well keeps you on your toes.
I’ve only seen Stay, The Glass House, and The Forgotten! I haven’t seen stay in so long I definitely want to rewatch it but I’m also excited to watch the others! I was such a fan of The Glass House and The Forgotten.
Loved the Glass House and Forgotton so will check out the rest :)
I love stay omg and it's definitely one of my favorite Ryan gosling roles
Hi Sarah, I watched Level 16 today bc of the suggestion! I didn’t know if it was exactly my style at first but I ended up really enjoying it! I love your videos! 💖
Absolutely love your movie suggestions. Liked and subscribed !!! 😍
I love the movie Disturbing Behavior from 1998
This video is just what I needed today! I think the only one I’ve seen is Level 16, and I would say your description of it is spot on; Great movie 😊 Thank you for sharing these!
Really nice list Sarrah. Love your content recently!
Thank you!!! Ive been having a rough time with mental health and stuck artistically. So i try to watch things that will suck me in and make me think but like many of us i felt like i had watched everything good. Then this video comes out by the queen of horror and alas ive only seen one! Yay!! I know these are classics for many but not for all so my recs are The Game(1997) and Rear Window(1954) or for shows Residue(2015), a sadly forgotten gem.
Sorry you’re going through a tough time 💕 Have you ever seen Waking Life? Not a thriller but it’s an existential dive into many thought-provoking topics such as lucid dreaming, human connection, politics etc.
One of my all time favourites for when I need to go off the deep end and escape from the stagnant real world. Specifically the scene with the light switch gets me.
I hope you start to feel better soon ❤
@MarleeCM Thank you so much. 💚 I know that lows are just as much a part of life as the highs are. Sometimes I just have to remind myself. Lol. I tend to stay away from things sort of like that when I'm in a low spot because my mind can twist even the purest part of real life things, if that makes sense. It still sounds right up my alley though so I'll definitely give it a try when I'm in a lighter place. I hope you're doing well too. ^-^
Thank you for mentioning Forgotten. I loved that movie and feel that it gets way, way too much hate.
Always need background movie recs!! ♡ would love a video on this
Absolutely LOVE your videos ❤ I loved the Glass House 🤣
I LOVE thrillers!! I’m all for seeing you talk more about thrillers😁
The Glass House is the closest thing to a cozy Thriller that you'll find. So nostalgic as well.
I'm excited for your Cobweb review ❤
Thanks for always reminding me of movies I've forgotten about so I can give them a rewatch! I loved forgotten and the glass house when I first saw them
I recently watched Freeway starring Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland. I guess it's technically a thriller but to be honest, I'm not sure what the difference is between horror and thriller. But it was super fun! It felt like a feature length episode of Tales from the Crypt, with it's dark humor and 90s vibes and everything. :)
I LOVE it. Reese is a total badass.
Ooooh I need to rewatch The Forgotten! Thank you for the recs as always.
Adding all of these to my Letterboxd watchlist. Thanks Sarah!!
Oh my goshhhh I love Stay so much! It was so important to me in high school. I always get The Forgotten and The Invisible mixed up, but The Invisible was also so important haha. Actually very similar to Stay now that I think of it!
I was JUST thinking about how you hadn't posted in a little while! stoked for this video obvi but also just hope you've been doing okay ❤️
Stay might be my favorite movie, so glad to see you talk about it
I love The Forgotten!!! Thanks for the great list ☮💜. Another great mention is Premonition too.
Of *course* we want more! You have interesting things to say, and your voice is very soothing :) ……. More importantly, though, THAT SHIRT! Omg whered you get that shirt?!
I love lists like this, often because the lack of conversation around some movies keeps them from my mind when I’m thinking of something to watch. Now I have 5 movies on my watchlist! Thank you so much for making this.
Forgotten (2017). AMAZING movie - the less you know the better
I've seen Level 16, The Forgotten and The Glass House and enjoyed all three. I'd never heard of the other two! Great video and recs
Thanks for the movie recommendations, I haven't heard of any of them, I can't wait to watch them.
My favourite movie is The Absolution (from 1978). It's the kind of thriller that you think about for the rest of you life. No gore, just psychological warfare
Awesome! Definitely checking it out.
@@vickytime3855 Please do. It's pretty old and I feel like because of that nobody ever talks about it! And it's sooo good
I LOVVEEEE Glass House! Great list! I think I've seen The Forgotten too but I need to go back and rewatch it.
There was a period in my life when I used to watch so many thrillers (my stepping stone to horror I guess) and The Forgotten was one of them. I haven't seen it years but some of the visual effects still stick with me, like there's literally a reverse shot that's so well done you wouldn't even catch it unless you watched the behind the scenes.
Idk if this counts as a thriller but Double Jeopardy is one of my favs!!
Yes, another awesome one.
I saw The Glass House back in high school(2005-2009)! I thought it was pretty fun for a weekend watch.
yesssss i'm so happy for Stay to get some recognition, been one of my fav gems since 2013 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nobody ever talks about Glass House! I used to love this movie growing up its so good!
That’s a great list. I’d like to add „A lonely place to die“ with Melissa George (Triangle). It’s more of an adventure thriller, its about a group who goes hiking in the Scottish highlands and then.. things happen (I would recommend not to watch any trailers or read the description anywhere because even though it happens pretty early in the movie I was completely taken off guard and I think that’s the best way to experience the movie.)
Great list! I’m excited to watch them!
The GLASS HOUSE was my favorite movie growing up
Omg! I loved Raze! Saw it around 2015 with my ex because we liked Zoë, a NZ actress/stuntwoman who has also been in several Quentin Tarantino films (and Death Proof). So glad you mentioned it!
I LOVE The Glass House! What Lies Beneath (2000) is one of my favorites thrillers of all time.
Loveeeee Glass House! I think it was one of the first movies my family ever rented on Netflix- back when the DVD came in the mail!
Level 16 was crazy found it one day just scrolling on Netflix😳also really liked the glass house!
Stay is one of my favorites. I rewatch it at least once a year.
Today, through happenstance, you and Haunted Hippie mentioned the movie “Stay”.
Both of the two yutes praised it, so now I must watch.
You two should have a watch along! Two great horror/thriller channels. 😊
omg that’s so awesome! I’d love to collab with her :)
A little late to the party (I’m going back through all the possessedbyhorror I haven’t watched) but!! I absolutely love your channel because I feel like you and I were getting into horror around the same time and it’s so refreshing to see content about early 2000’s horror.
One of the thriller movies I was OBSESSED with in my formative horror years was Vacancy (2007) with Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson. If you haven’t seen it I would definitely recommend it ❤
I knew the first movie you talked about before you finished the cast. I love "Stay". Totally underrated.
Great list! I have only seen the glass house but I could do with a rewatch 😊
Here more recommendation :
1- the butterfly effect 2004
2- Unseen 2023
3- significant other 2022( this my favourite movie u need to watch it 😂❤)
4- down range 2017
5- headcount 2018
6- marrowbone 2017
(( how’s my list ? 😅)
Random thing but a horror film I think you'd love that I haven't heard u talk about, maybe, is my little eye from 2002. It's an early 2000s isolation type movie. It's kinda found footage but it's made in a big brother type way, and it's really good.
I just watched Level 16 a few weeks ago and loved it! It was easy to watch while I was crocheting which I really appreciated. I definitely love my complicated “pay attention to every detail” movies but sometimes need something to put on while I relax and this was it!
Really great movies.. I haven't seen Raze, so I'm looking forward to seeing it. Might have to rewatch some of the others :)
Not sure if it is technically a thriller, but I highly recommend the theatrical version of Donnie Darko. It's a cult classic.
Yessssss. Amazing movie.
Just finished Level 16, great suggestion!
Good list and cool video Sarah!👉😃👈
Perfect!! I need some movie recommendations. AuDHD makes choosing one hard!😂
I adore the Glass House so really happy to see it get some of the spotlight
One of my favorite thrillers that my mom and I used to watch all of the time was a 2008 movie called Untraceable. This one also has Diane Lane as well as Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks' son. I would highly recommend whoever reads this comment to go watch this movie blindly. It's got a premise that would land it in the same category as Saw. Not to mention the movie has a modern premise to it.
Also, speaking of Leelee Sobieski, it's weird how Joy Ride started out as a thriller and turned into a horror franchise.
Omg, you just made me feel old. 😂 I'm pretty sure that Stay and The Forgotten were really popular when they came out.
I haven't seen Raze and will be adding it to my tbr. 🙂
I've seen Level 16. Highly recommend that movie! ❤
Ahhh!!!! Raze! saw that movie around when it came out and then totally forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder.
I just watched Level 16 about a month ago and it was not what I expected, but in a good way. I enjoyed it!
I love the Forgotten. It came to mind this year and I rewatched it for the first time in years. Really an underrated gem!
The mid-2000s (what I consider to be 2004-2007) is my favorite era for horror, thrillers, and music, so I love that you mentioned Stay, as well as The Forgotten. Such a cozy, specific era for film, particularly horror. I'm not huge on The Forgotten, but it's a good movie that's very very very indicative of its time.
Love this era, and I love that you always praise the 2000s.
I also loved The Glass House when I was ten in like 2002. It was fairly thrilling and fun and a good way to, in my opinion, introduce the dark thriller genre to kids and young teens.
have y’all watched Christine? the one about the news reporter? maybe i’m way behind but i’d never heard of it till yesterday and i’m shook- if you know what’s coming, it’s the tensest ride ever! check it out.
OMG yes I love that one I mean it’s a one time watch but it’s good
Thanks for reminding me! I knew the story behind it for quite a while and have been meaning to watch the movie since I heard about it!
Oh man, I forgot about The Forgotten. That was such a good movie and I agree that the ending was kind of out of left field for me.
I've seen The Glass House a long time ago when I was younger but only the one time. Might need to do a rewatch at some point.
The Forgotten is so underrated imo, I grew up watching that movie all the time and no one talks about it
Omg Raze! I was trying for the life of me to remember the title and i could never find it cause i couldn't remember 😅. Thank you! Its definitely a violently entertaining, survival/ horror movie.
The Forgotten hurts my heart too much to watch cause i just was with Julianne's character completely.
The glass house is one of my favorites. It was fantastic. Teen thriller, yup. But not dumb.
I actually haven’t seen the first 2 that you mentioned but ill definitely check them out 😉
The forgotten and the glass house are some of the best early 2000s thrillers ever!
all of these are on my watchlist, apart from raze, i’ll think about watching that, also i’ve watched level 16 but need a rewatch
Some of my favorites are minotiy report, the others, butterfly effect, running scared, panic room, etc. Its one of my favorite genres so i could go on forever.
Watched STAY recently and also really enjoyed. Saw The Glass House way back but liked it as well.
