    My office had about 7 $5,000 USD iMac Pros. It was painful to have to dispose of them because we switched our creative team to MacBook Pros and the iMacs could not be reused as displays without taking them apart. Even if it's uglier, buying discrete components makes much more sense in the long run, for nearly every type of consumer, than using an AIO.
    I know that after that experience, I will never endorse buying an all in one again, unless there's a very specific commercial use (think point of sale terminal or something consumers don't care about).

      @aspensareprettyneat4002 Před rokem +30

      @@arturoehr this isn’t still the case, but the original reason they killed target display mode was because of the switch to the 5K panel. At the time, the hardware on a larger scale just wasn’t ready. DisplayPort could not handle 5K, so internally it was using two DisplayPort inputs and stitching it together to get a 5K image. Without some software magic and using two separate cables to connect to the iMac, target display mode just wasn’t possible at the time.
      Obviously display cables caught up and they could have done it with a single thunderbolt cable including PD charging for a MacBook for a nice one cable setup a few years now. But at least *originally* there was a legitimate reason for it.

    Dear MacAdress, please make a video about the native “retina”-scaling and why 4K is a bad idea. To get the moast out of your display when using a Mac mini or Mac Studio, you need to drive a 2k or 5/6k display. This is really interesting. In 1996, I picked-up my first Apple desktop computer an All-in-One 5400 (had built-in speakers, Sony CRT, CD-ROM drive, floppy drive, Apple internal video card system with editing software, and Apple internal TV/FM card system with its matching black remote control); next was an All-in-One glossy white 20-inch G5 iMac; followed by a glossy white 24-inch Intel iMac. Afterward, I said no more Apple desktop All-in-One computers for myself and picked-up a 2010 "mac mini" (the last model with a built-in DVD super-drive) and paired it with a 2010, Apple 27-inch Cinema LED (none thunderbolt) display. If buying new today, I would get the "mac mini" Pro and the "Studio Display". Why? Because no need for external speakers, external web camera, and the 5K display (smile...smile).

The accessories you show are very cool, I'll have to get them. The modular setup does provide more options however, and what should have happened with the iMac is the ability to turn it into a monitor.
