      Not necessarily stolen its not uncommon for a school to sell a bunch of used equipment to a recycler and forget to remove a few of them from DEP. You have to remember how poorly funded some schools IT are. And if your disposing of 2000 laptops its easy to miss a few.

They asked us kindly and sent over the serials so we could release the rest. Yeah, not an uncommon thing, I buy used computers/laptops from a nearby university on auction and refurbish them turn them into chromebooks and like emulator machines for cheap. Not unlikely places like this and plug tech are the reason I can never get my hands on apple products.

    Just selling stuff without bothering removing/unlinking the accounts from the devices is borderline criminal. Also having prices borderline more expensive than other marketplaces or even actual stores makes me think like they pick stuff from various sellers online (ebay/facebook or whatever) and just sell them with a small bump in price for a profit. In general this screams scam where they target random people surfing TikTok or whatever that think the Macbook they are buying for $300 is the same as the one Apple sells for $1000.

    • @CaseyDplays
      @CaseyDplays Před 15 dny +51

      This is a HUGE issue with managed Apple devices. The companies wipe the device and sell it but forget to remove the remote management, whoever gets the device doesn't know it's a managed device unless they try to set up a new user. So resellers open it up turn it and see it's ready (supposedly) for a new user and then sell it. Then the person who bought it gets stuck with a brick because they don't have any way to remove it from a managed device system. The ONLY way to remove it is for the original owners that managed the device to go into their accounts and remove it as a managed device. As you can guess, most school IT and office IT departments aren't going to bother helping you with that. Especially since they can't confirm you bought it legit and aren't just trying to unlock one of their many computers to resell. They can't know if that one has been sold or not.
      Officially, they are supposed to remove any device they sell from their managed account before selling them, but they don't think of that when they wipe them.

    25:50 - Graphics glitch is definitely an OpenCore problem (I use OpenCore a ton, working on the ultimate 2010 iMac build right now) because the graphics card might not have supported drivers so it uses "hacked" drivers. But kinda hilarious that it's SO BAD now, when it was a great Mac in 2013! 😂

Seeing those AirPods Max in that shape with that price was incredibly sad. Again, you can find new ones on sale for less than the price of the refurbed one. I never seen headphones that bad in shape and I daily headphones for half my life.

    The unboxed MacBook Air with school data raises concerns about Strictly Apple's device handling and data security. Failing to reset the AirPods Max is also concerning. Ideally, they should attempt to reunite the MacBook Air with the school. The unclear return policy with conflicting information adds to the red flags. These inconsistencies make me wary of doing business with Strictly Apple.

    14:06 funny story, I actually recovered an iPhone from the side of a freeway after it had been left on the roof of my car. I remember hearing a bump at some point on the freeway, and I thought it was a rock or something small and didn’t much of it, but later I get a call from the person who’s phone it was, and I check their location and it shows up in the middle of the freeway. I immediately connected the dots and let them know, I went and picked up the phone, which had thankfully been pushed onto the shoulder, next to a divider wall so I was able to pull off and grab it. It was an 11 pro max, we replaced the screen and it still worked. Enough to move data off it anyways lol, the back was destroyed.

    We have iPads on our schools mdm and before selling or disposing we have to contact our supplier to remove the serials from MDM.
    It basically hits Apple for activation then gets redirected to our schools devices.
    Once removed they activate as normal.

    10:41 I have experienced this before. Good news is that it's easily fixable, and it's not ENTIRELY sketchy. So, Strictly Apple is a reseller of old computers from Pasco County Schools. I am typing this on an old 2013 iMac, that had the same thing with Chicago Public Schools. I bought it from a shop out in the Chicago Suburbs. I just had to call CPS, get in touch with their tech support, and they removed the Remote Management. Kind of a hassle, but it wasn't difficult.
