I work at bestbuy and back when the Imac had m1 CPU the hardest thing about my job was getting people to understand why the m2 mac mini was better and cheaper, a lot of them would think the monitor on display for the mac mini was the computer....this will make my job ALOT easier lmfao
ah yes the classic, explaining that the monitor is not the computer
@@NotBrickMC EXACTLY 😂
OTOH most of the displays one would sell with a Mac Mini are nowhere near the quality of the iMac display.
@@NotBrickMC I'm shocked that there are still people who don't know the difference 😨
Ahh a sales person that has no idea some people value aesthetics over specs. You probably wasted a lot of people’s money, as they’d get reminded they bought a crappy looking monitor daily whereas for 95% of people they’d not notice M1 vs M2.
Jonathan's obsession with the new iMac form factor is fascinating. I can't say I understand it, but I'm happy for him that he finally got an upgraded model. Also, working with one screen isn't that weird. I've learned to do it over the last few years primarily because of my need to reduce the number of heat producing devices in my space.
I also moved from 2 monitors to one as I suspected asymmetrical setup cobtributed to neck issues. But that is 34" UW, I would still never go to 24", while I could manage with 27" 16:9 if need be.
I love the look. if I had a reason to use Mac I would have an iMac
Mac Address has to be one of the best LMG Channels, the writing and hosting from Horst is just top notch, the music and visuals really make it feel like its tailored to how apple would produce something
Jonathan’s coverage of apple products is much like an apple product itself - clean, concise, clearly understandable.
Agreed 😂😂
Yeah, I like the atmosphere of the other channels, but this one just gets a more professional feeling across
The iMac should come with a video-input so you could use it as an external monitor with your other devices, or when the internals eventually get outdated
What’s frustrating is that older Intel iMacs used to support exactly this. It is called “Target Display Mode”.
A base M1 iMac would make the perfect “Studio Display” for the M3 iMac.
@@mendodsoregonbackroads6632 I use my M1 Imac as a second display when editing with my M2 Pro Mac mini with a 27" Dell display .. receiving my Studio Display next week and will sell the Dell display .. the only reason. why I didn't go for the M3 Imac is because I got accustomed to the 27" screen size .. 2 iMacs side by side will look good, you have two separate computers plus dual displays when necessary .. I use 1 logitech keyboard and mouse to control both computers
I agree. It would be more sustainable, but apple cut this off intentionally.
If I’m not mistaken, the hardware ray tracing in Blender works from version 4.0, not 3.6.1. Would be interesting to see updates results ❤
another important thing that is missing for the 2 port 1299 base model iMac is the cooling fan that directly cools the CPU heatsink. This means the base model is essentially passively cooled.
No, it just comes with one fan instead of two.
no… the base model just has a singular fan for the heatsink. it still cools the chip. also the base model is still gonna be enough for most people cuz the m1 barely gets warm under normal use
he showed the base model on the website which specifically says it has 2 USB C ports, as well as what other people have pointed out, base model does have 1 fan vs 2 on the higher end models.
Still on my fully loaded 2017 27" and very happy that it still does what I need 😅

im not even an apple person, but ive liked the imacs for ages. they never were for what i needed them to do, but for many of my family members, they're exactly what they need. they take up little space, are able to be spec'd for good speed and power, and they look excellent.
MA is actully the only channel under roof of LMG that for some reason feels premium and organised. itr is always plesent to watch.
I agree, MA always feels more like they're their own separate entity share LMG's space
With it being a more niche and targeted channel, allowing it to take it's time makes sense.
I think it's the difference in the format. They don't want to rock the LTT boat too hard. If they launched a new Car channel it would probably have the same premium feel.

your first video is actually what convinced me to buy the yellow imac i'm currently using! i love this computer so much, i just love having the bigger screen and more permanent setup that you get when comparing to having a macbook. plus i got the upgraded model from costco for $500 off which helps.
The M1 iMac was my first Mac ever and I really got me through most of my college classes especially my Video Editing course. However there were a lot of weak areas when it came to app support at the time and gaming. I completed BioShock Infinite on it via Parrells in window mode to get a good framerate. Nowadays, it sits on an arm next to my PC whenever I need to do something quick or need extra space my desk where's my PC has a large drawing monitor. If anyone is looking to get an iMac get the VESA mount option.
Sounds like you were expecting more of it than advertised re: gaming. I have a windows desktop for gaming & a MacBook Pro for work, I switch between them & have a Logitech m ouse & keyboard which allow me to switch source without needing 2 sets.
I purchased the orange as well at the end of December after much thought. I have a PC laptop and a base M1 MacBook Air for the work I do. I don’t travel much anymore and the iMac was the perfect replacement to my 12 year old PC behemoth tower. The tower had various upgrades and I was over it, and Windows. So far the iMac has been great for the photo editing and basic video editing I do. I did max out to the 24mb RAM to ensure no regrets as I know I will make this last a while. The biggest benefit has been the minimal space and it’s so quiet. Bliss.
The M1 is and will continue to be a monster CPU for years to come for everybody. Let’s just stop assuming everyone is a pro video editor
Sensato.
you buy Mac because you're a pro video (or graphics) editor, it makes no sense to buy one otherwise, the M3 processor was giving 40 something fps in resident evil village, a cheaper windows computer can give better framerates, unless you work with adobe or similar software a Mac is not the way to go
@@LovelyAlannaAh yes, the only 2 possible use cases for a computer is gaming or video editing!
@@LovelyAlanna I respect the opinion but it is just that. I just like using macOS for my day to day. My M1 Air is brilliant for this. Great performance and the battery life is insane. When it's time to game or do something intense, it's gaming desktop time. And the rare times I do ask my MacBook Air to do something stressful, it does good enough.
I love my 13" M1 MBP 16 GB. I bought it intending it to be a 5-year laptop. If I get more years out of it, great! but I upgraded from a 2013 4 GB MBA, which I traded with my wife three years prior with my 2012 8 GB MBP. I was more apt at RAM savings, and she was having trouble with her 30 Safari tabs. I only upgraded because the battery was failing.
It is kinda funny how in the original M1 review you said it would last you 10 years, and here you are, 3 years later, feeling the need to upgrade.
It is almost as if these all-in-ones are wasteful and bad in the long term, like people have been saying since PowerPC...
I wonder if buying non-base model only makes actual sense for Apple products. Looks like if you buy the base one it IS outdated by the time they refresh its lineup.
Hes still using it at his house, but professional equipment is regularly upgraded and switched out. Google had a policy (when I worked there), engineering equipment is switched out every 2 years with essentially maxed out macbook pros/mac pros. The business justification is simple usually every 2-3 years there is a major performance bump. Even if its only 10-20% faster if that translates to even 5% productivity increases thats massive return on investment.
Glad to see the commitment to accuracy. Nice work!
I think it’s funny that photographers/videographers are the ones paying the price for these “better” machines. They got CZcams videos to upload! As a software engineer, I’m still rocking the M1 Pro and honestly, 20-30 seconds of waiting in between compilation is not a big deal as some people might want you to think.
Dude, you are kidding yourself. If you can get your compilation times in half, it feels way better. Even if we are talking 2 seconds vs 5, it feels better.
This reminds me of a futurama scene where the boys get annoyed about a package they ordered being delivered in 5 second instead of 2.5 seconds.
@@maxpain45678 it's crazy how relevant that feeling is
I could not agree with you more. That said I am sure many ppl feel different.
Anything is better than intel to be fair. However cutting the time your work takes in half, if you can afford it, is definitely better than not cutting the time your work takes in half.
I like the idea of the iMac. It is a great machine for minimalistic setups. Personally, I prefer modular setups though, which is why I went with a Mac Studio M1 Max. I prefer modular setups, so in the future I can just upgrade the Mac Studio and not have to pay for a new monitor, keyboard, etc. When buying a new iMac, you are paying to replace what could be a perfectly fine display, just for a faster chip. Which makes sense for some, but not for me.
I bought for myself the mac mini m2 pro and I'm really impressed how powerful this thing is, so I replaced whole setup in our office with the mac mini m2 pro and all of my employees are happy how everything works.
Love the MA vids as always, you always do a great job!
I love the iMac. But I honestly think the value is really in the mini and the studio
I've been living the single monitor life since about late 2018 as well and really do like it, even on my Windows machines. My employer at the time offered LG's 5K monitors to employees, but you could only have the one and my desk felt oddly cramped with the laptop on a stand. I originally picked two 27" 1440p monitors, but plugging both in to different sides of my MBP along with a power cable and a USB-C cable for my phone, it was annoying having to unplug four things every time I went to a meeting or home for the evening. Swapped to the single 27" 5K display since I could plug everything into the back of the monitor with one cable running to the laptop and it was so much nicer. Virtual desktop management with macOS is really nice, even if you're using a Logitech MX Master like I prefer, to the point I really didn't miss having a second display but loved having a much cleaner setup. This would prove useful when the pandemic hit and my 60" wide desk at home had to play host to my personal desktop and work setup, each occupying one half of the desk, and it's been that way ever since.
I love single monitor setups my Mac mini is setup with one monitor and it’s nice and clean I used to have 2 monitors but it was just a lot of clutter and a distraction from the main monitor and stage manager is so helpful that I just got to the point where I got tired of 2 monitors and took the second one off and I am glad I did
How do you manage virtual desktops with a normal mouse on macOS? Custom keyboard shortcut for Mission Control? I've found the default kb shortcuts to be very laptop two hands on the keyboard centric.
@@Komatik_ For work I have the Logitech MX Master mouse, which has a button under the thumb rest. By default on macOS (after installing the Logitech software) hold this button and dragging left or right switches to the appropriate virtual desktop. Holding it and moving the mouse up or down, or simply clicking the thumb button, will trigger Exposé in some manner. Otherwise yes, you'll need to learn the keyboard shortcuts. I believe the super key plus left or right on the arrow keys will switch virtual desktops.
one of the major selling point of imac is its screen in pre apple silicon era, however, that no longer holds true when i can get better miniled, oled, or led screen with mac mini undercutting imac's price in hundreds of dollars. the presence of an all in one is not that competing suddenly. i really wish apple to roll out a better screen solution as it has been in earlier years, which was the sole reason I prefer buying macs over windows laptops.
The thing that drives me insane with Mac is the anemic storage on the base models. I obtained a Base m1 MacBook air, and generally as a little work machine for lite tasking it's great, but the meager 256gbs of storage is abysmal. Otherwise it's the perfect little tasking device, but I have to carefully manage what I have installed on it. I'm not running games or editing video, so the 8GBs of ram while uncomfortable, doesn't actually cause me any issues. Most of what I am doing is typing and reading anyway. It's snappier than my old intel macbook pro, but can't do as much or install as much at once. An odd trade off.
But, it cost me nothing, as I traded my xbox that I haven't used in a year for it. So, win win.
where did you trade in your xbox? I also have an xbox lying around that I haven’t used for a looooong time 😂
I can not agree more when it comes to multi screen. As a graphic designer / video editor I have tried multiple screens with the best intentions and it never feels right. Love the 24” screen as it really to me does not feel cramped. Usually use an ipad pro as a second screen for email or web but that screen really hits the spot. Good review and best yet is realistic review.
Huh, I massively disagree. I can't go back to a single screen, unless it's a 50" 4k monitor or something like that. I'd go as far to say that the 24" iMac is a totally silly product and everyone should be getting a Mac Mini + multiple 27" 1440p monitors for the same money.
I cannot fathom how you survive on a single screen without a powerful tiling window manager setup. Whenever I go back to 1 monitor it feels so incredibly limiting after getting used to my 4 monitor setup. I won't say the 4 monitors increases productivity, but surely there is some sort of benefit from having a second screen to have reference material up?
What is the issue you have with multiple screens? As in what _exactly_ feels limiting/wrong about it that doesn't occur when you have one screen?
@@LiveType at the end of the day I just think it’s you know your preference. As a designer, I always felt when I had multiple screens it was just too much going on. I really concentrate a lot better on one thing as I go through everything and just using the multiple screen set up on the one monitor we can flip through you know screens or I use the iPad as a second screen but really just use it for emails so I think it just comes down to preference that All.
I generally like having one main screen and using the laptop's display on the side for stuff like chat windows or download progress etc, and just do what I need to mostly on the main display. More 1.5 than 2 monitor life.
On the MBA I just use like four virtual desktops partly because I only have the one 13" screen, partly because macOS window management ain't great.
@@StephenDeTomasi Does macOS even look good on 27" 1440p? I've tried using the MBA on my desktop gaming monitor and it just looks like absolute dogshit while the same monitor looks good on Win11 and KDE neon.
I’m looking at these for my mom but I’m very much a laptop person.. even given the easy ability to plug it into a larger display and the fact that I own a Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, etc.. I still generally use it in laptop form.. sometimes I’ll mirror a second desktop to my tv for streaming but even that’s rare. I’m more likely to just watch a movie on the MacBook and use my iPad if I wanna do some browsing.
You did a wonderful job! You are so talented, keep it up!
I just got the M2 pro mini. Base model on the refurbished list. I haven't done any video editing yet, but I'm not impressed coming from an amd system that I built. I have had some sluggish experiences. Now mostly from a cheaper Bluetooth mouse. I switched to a Logitech wireless mouse and things improved. But browsing with chrome with around 8 tabs (which is not a lot for me) the memory was at 11gigs.... Now I had 32gigs with a 5600 cpu. Never had an issue with it. Makes me want to build another system and do a hackintosh.
I'm still using an ancient 16gb iMac 2010 for Logic Pro exclusively for music recording and keep on thinking.... "I should get one of these new iMacs ya know". However, the current setup still works great for the music I make and I have a beast PC for the rest of my work. I don't have to do video editing however and, if I did, that would be the clincher. I would have to upgrade. Superb video Jonathan and many thanks for making me realise there is no rush to upgrade and, if I do upgrade, it will be to the M3 or - more likely - the M4 when that finally drops next year or whenever. I love the Mac for so much creative work, but as a workhorse for everyday crap, my Corsair One with a 3080, 64gb and i9 processor is fine. Actually, more likely to get a macbook pro and just use an external monitor if I upgrade but I sure do love the sheer elegance of the iMac. Sad to hear that there is a rumour Apple may discontinue iMacs in the future, which would be a real pity but hey ho, they have been a part of my life since the very first all in once Macintoshs in the late 1980s so will always have a place in my blackened heart :)
whats the latency? how many samples?
@@magog6852 I'll check later when I get back home. Had no latency issues which is classic Mac being well behaved. Use up to 24+ tracks of vox/guitars/bass with midi drums and keys. Not sure if I'm recording at 96khz or 48khz, but I'll let ya know. It's been working fine for my needs over last 4 years anyway, but I do think it's time for an upgrade soon 👍
I love the vibe of these videos so much. So pleasant to watch.
I had a 512gb 16gb m1 pro 14" laptop for work but I often found even 16gb of ram was not enough, often times getting the pop up that I was out of memory. I convinced my boss to get me a used m1 max 32gb 1tb Mac Studio and I have had zero issues with it so far. It has been a major upgrade. For context I am the Chief videographer/editor at my work place so I often have Premier, After Affects, and Photoshop open at any given time or even all at once.
same here, problem is that with more complex projects often 64gb's are not enough. We've come a long way with filesizes, back in the days when 8gb's was enough for work, my iPhone screen was 320x480 and 21mpix 5D2 was often called silly for having too many pixels. Nowadays it's 4K and 50-100mpix all the way and yet they market 16gb's as something usuable...
@@matuszewskistudio Pretty much. My current laptop is one that is almost 5 years old at this point. A low power cpu with no gpu and costed around $600 USD. It still had 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD which was acceptable with those specs. But today, 1TB of storage with 32GB of RAM is what I'd personally have as a minimum.
Your delivery/editing and questioning to the audience is a much more classic way of reporting and it's nice to see.
Kudos to Jonathan, MA has become my favorite offchute of LMG. Writing is thoughful and every time he hosts, the content is conveyed in a relaxed and easy to follow fashion. Moreover, the videos always feel like the right length, whereas lately the LTT videos are getting increasingly longer without offering much substance
you popping with the music in this episode, thank you for the recs!!
I bought the M3 iMac with 24 GB (wanted more, like at least 32), and 2 TB of SSD.
It is quick and nimble. I'll convert my old iMac (2012) into a display at some point (strip pretty much everything, add a video card).
Really great video. I enjoyed all of the comparisons and I feel like I am a little bit closer to making a decision for myself. Awesome.
The imac can’t get TB4 certification as it doesn’t support two external monitors. Something the Mini does as it doesn’t have an internal display. Still, the bandwidth of the ports are the same. 40Gbps.
14” MacBook Pro & external display. Best combination of laptop and desktop use.
As for the iMac, surely they could fit an M3 Pro in there to increase desktop performance
Still a hard no for me. While I (kind of) like the aesthetic, a 24" screen is still too small for my ageing eyes. I like having space AND seeing everything ;) I actually liked the look of the old iMac more than the new ones.. The (2020) current model just looks like an iPad with a stand to me. I'll stick with my Minis & my displays. I always enjoy these videos though. Different perspectives on computers we both love :)
I fully understand you. I specced my 14" M1 Pro so that I could keep it for 5+ years. 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD. 2 years later it still runs great. With my 2TB of iCloud storage, the 1TB SSD is enough even thought I might have to upgrade the storage within a year.
I think that's completely bananas dude. If I recall, the 14" M1 Pro's with 32GB and 1TB were at least $2600 (maybe $2999, been a while) roughly 2 years ago, then you spend $132 a year for 2TB of iCloud+, You're already $2600 + $264 = $2864 into that system, keep it another three years and your total cost is more like $2600 + $660 = $3260. You will have paid $660 for 2TB of extremely low performance cloud storage that you do not own, you only rent, when very decent 2TB NVMe Gen4 SSD's capable of over 5000MB/s read and write performance are available for under $100, all because Apple cannot possibly give customers a way to upgrade a system, either need them to way overspend at time of purchase for higher specs, or buy the less overpriced base model and find yourself spending $130+ a year on cloud storage. I mean, Apple is still charging $400 to go from 1TB to 2TB in a MacBook Pro or iMac, and I have to imagine that's at least in part due to people comparing the 2TB iCloud cost of $400 for 3 years. I'm glad you paid for the upgrade model and are actually getting good life out of it, I feel terrible for the people who bought 14" M1 Pro's with 8GB and 256GB, or even 8GB and 512GB. Anyone who bought 8GB M1, M2 or M3 Mac's with the intent of doing anything more than word processing and internet consumption got royally screwed, because you can at least plug in Thunderbolt SSD storage and solve that issue somewhat.
If you don't think I've already done the math on that you'd be wrong. The problem is that actively use iCloud. The stuff I put on there is available to all my devices at all time from anywhere. I have externals already but it's just not the same. I should spend some time cleaning my laptop at some point but right now it's sitting at 800gb out of the TB and my iCloud is at 1.7TB. So even the 2TB upgrade wouldn't have been enough for everything I have and anyway it definitely wouldn't be safe only available on my laptop at risk of being lost forever. I spend much more on my hair and so many other things so I'm really not bothered by something as useful as iCloud.@@racerex340
How are you going to upgrade the storage, it's soldered and serialized in order to keep you from doing so. Or do you mean to get an external drive?
I'm going to upgrade from 2TB iCloud sub to the next tier whenever I need to. A pretty simple and quick process.@@computeraidedworld1148
I'm using my 2021 M1 MacBook pro with a dock connected to an external monitor, I think that's the best solution for me since I can take the computer I use at home everywhere I go. Maybe when I'm out of college I might give an iMac a try but I do like the versatility of my laptop being my main computer.
Don't do a lot of things that require immense power but I'm glad I went for the 16GB RAM M1 Mini. Even the occasional wow classic (wotlk) session still runs fine.I'm ok without fancy graphics, it's how i started the game when it was launched 🙂
Dude for that kind of money you could get a refurbished 2020 27" iMac and spec it with 128gb of RAM and 16GB of VRAM with a terabyte of SSD easy.
If this had hdmi input it would be perfect. I wanna be able to use this display on my desk for things besides just my computer. Silly, I know.
Holding fire with my May 2017 Intel iMac 3.4 5k.
I think the upgrade from 8GB ram iMac to 16gb ram was a bigger reason there was such a difference in performance for you. I am puzzled how you could have specced out your original M1 iMac with only 8gb of ram knowing you use that for professional use. 8GB of ram for kids, grandma, people who only web browse? thats perfect for them. Everyone else? upgrade to 16gb or more depending on what you do for work.
When testing in Blender, do you switch Device in the Render tab to GPU Compute? Because it might be set to CPU by default. Although i'm not sure how much of a difference it makes on the base M chip.
One often overlooked factor in upgrading tech is the power saving (less so in some countries with cheap electricity), those watts per hour saved sure do add up and is one aspect nobody covers in reviews. Maybe have a look into that - how much power did you save replacing two systems with one? A fair bit and in some countries, that alone would have made the upgrade cheap as sell old systems+saving on electricity, in some countries that's a profit. How well did it pan out for you overall?
I think gamers nexus cover it in theirs
Quick math - if you save 100 W (which you don't), 8 hours a day, times 250 days = 200 kWh. In my country that's about 50 bucks a year.
I would rather save like $190 upgrading 8GB of RAM.
@@theEskalaatorthat’s around $240 where I live.
@@theEskalaator 8 hours a day for many is a quiet day. Also, he removed a whole system, so more than 100 watts were saved in this instance. I also recently replaced an FX6350 and GTX750 with a Ryzen 5 2400g B450 (budget upgrade for the system) and that saved a bit over 130watts comparing the Ryzen peak usage to the older system idle desktop. The odds of saving exactly 100 W would be slim, though I could add some HD's and reduce the savings to possibly hit 100 W, I'm not that smug.
It's a Mac, upgrading the RAM (which you can't) is not an option.

Thank you, for this excellent review video. Also, thank you for pointing out that both the colorful 24-inch M-1 and M-3 iMac's come with only Fire-wire 3 ports and, not with Fire-wire 4 ports as on the "mac mini" model. It appears, I had assumed incorrectly that, USB "C" 4, was equal to thunderbolt 4. Looks like Apple, Inc. is again cutting corners, just to save a few dollars. Like yourself, I too am a bit different. If getting to select an office computer to use today, I would pick Apple's discontinued "space gray" 27-inch iMac Pro model with its matching "space gray" accessories (i.e. keyboard, track pad, and mouse).
Those Davinci Resolve export times are very suspect...
The difference between the m1 and m2 isn't relatively that large, yet the jump from m2 to m3 is _massive._
What's sus is how the m3 has 16GB of ram, which is double what either of the older generation mac devices you tested the export with.
Is there another iMac m3 configuration you could have instead tested, but with 8GB of ram instead? I would _very_ much like to see the export times on that, compared to the other 8GB configured Macs...
The media engine is updated in m3 and is almost twice as fast as the previous media engine, something they didn't mention in the keynote somehow. M3 pro which has one media engine exports about as fast as m2 max which has dual media engines. Idk what the official benchmarks are for it but I would guess this is the reason why.

My 11 year old Macbook Pro has 16 GB memory and 512 GB SSD. How that same setup costs the same today is ridiculous to me. 16 GB integrated memory (even if it "is the equivalent" to 32 GB) is still way too low for any device bigger than a phone or Switch.
When Apple used the “equivalent” argument I still said to myself “it’s still less RAM for more money”.
It is not equivalent at all
I mean I have the 2012 MacBook Pro with 16 Gb and a 1 TB ssd, and I can tell you that an M1 or M2 with a 512 ssd and 16 Gb is better in every possible way. And for the M2 Pro Mac mini I paid the exact same price as my MacBook Pro cost me a decade ago, for many times the gpu and cpu performance. 8 Gb is the joke, but 16 is fine.
We have downsized to a 2 bed condo so iMacs are out we like the convenience of sticking the MacBook Pro in a drawer out of the way years the screen is smaller but I use my 12.9 iPad Pro for most things with Apple TV since retiring
im curious why youd pick the imac over something like a mac mini or one of the laptops
The biggest ll I find would be a height adjustable iMac like when Apple would focus on making the home computer more accessible for everyone which what they used to do.
I'm like you in that I like to use just the one screen. I also have a 2017 iMac 5K which I LOVE but feels slow for photo editing. I don.t do video. My hife ordered a new M3 fully loaded, so I'm keen to see that! Rumours still say watch for a 32" iMac 5k in the spring 2024, I think in the fall maybe.
I love the design but find it super hard to move on from the final 27” inch iMac they made, which let me upgrade up to 64GB of ram (I only have 32gb at the moment). Feels pretty low to see 16gb as an “upgrade” haha
Loved the video I just wish that they would make an imac pro and like a cheap i mac.
An AIO desktop like this would be been easier for me to justify before the pandemic when my position was not hybrid. Since then I have been using a laptop that connects to a dock with an external display in both locations (home office/campus office). A desktop in either location wouldn’t work.
I think you should make a video on target display mode, or lack thereof
i like the design and appreciate the simple ui of macOS but the problem is it doesn't offer a lot of power (for what i need anyways) and compatibility
Always a great review of plus and minuses from Mac Address! It's nice to see the real reasons to purchase while also being prepared for a few gotchas.
I’d like some buying information on the tubular lighting on the wall in your office, thanks
Still running with my m1 max macbook, its the only system i currently use other than my hp envy laptop.
Would be interested in your take on Raycast, seems like an overall improvement to spotlight.
Has the security flaw been fixed in the M2/3?
Still rocking my M1 mac mini. Did opt for the 16GB ram though. Maybe I'll upgrade in a year or two :)
8GB RAM regardless of the SoC’s strengths, is criminal. A fucking etch-a-sketch needs more.
I would love to get an iMac.. But with more pro-orientated specs and active cooling! I mean.. Mac Studio is cool, but I want all in one Mac with that pro specs. Even if that means they'll make it thicker.
Can you make a video about how the iPad can be used as an external monitor using a usb capture card and use it with a portable battery station?
"I only have one screen"
Proceeds to move to his second desk with another *computer*
To a 30k usd computer
I'm a Mac mini person! With a hub it's the perfect setup for me.
It's great for what is, and not much else is really needed.
I like the idea of the iMac. I like the colors and the AIO design. But I can't get past that price tag. I've been using a Mini since 2021, just recently had to decide on an upgrade because I needed more power than the base M1 Mini could give, and went with an M2 Mini with upgraded ram and storage.
Even mini price brackets are ridiculous.
Honestly, yeah they are.
I have iMac M1 at my desk for the last two years. I push it every day with the fans on. Running 3 external displays. I can handle it, but at times I do feel I push it to the limits
why didn't you use the orange and yellow bar graphs for the orange and yellow computer respectively?
I have a 2019 iMac that I love. But I would like to get a new one just as an update. But there is not a good upgrade path for me.
My iMac is a 27” model. So an iMac would be smaller, so it’s a no go. A Mac Mini is probably the best option, but I would need to get a separate monitor at that point.
It also sucks that these new Macs can’t be upgraded. Mine was the cheapest model, and I upgraded the RAM and I put a big SSD in there.
I just feel like the new Macs are definitely better, just a lot more expensive to get into
Having a 34" ultrawide and a 32" monitor together is amazing, I like to tile and see everything instead of switching virtual desktops. Linux has that too but I'm not a fan of it
what's the usage of VLC 37.18GB for? 3:38
Serious question⁉ What color should I get? I've remodelled my living room into a "work-from-home" space. I've got an beige marbled floor, white walls, a mocha coloured leather sofa, another oak coloured sofa, a white office/dinning table, large saddle wood coloured sliding doors that hide away an open-concept kitchen and a large dark wood grain frame to house my wall mounted TV. My balcony has some green plants.
I'll sound like a broken record but my SO has a 2011 27" imac with 16gb ram, 1tb ssd and gpu. Runs MacOS and fedora.
She is not a power user but does game but if they released a 27" new iMac i would be buying for her in a heartbeat.
She still doesn't want to downgrade to a 24" screen and just seeing the two screens back to back is understandable. If her old machine dies i still might buy an old 2015/2017 27" imac before buying a 24" new model
I'm currently waiting for the MacStudio to get the M3 Max
If I needed a desktop, I would definitely get the iMac 24gb, 1tb. In silver.
How many additional monitors can you add?
The only real performance lift m2 to m3 including architecture, is a higher clock speed, coincidentally, the clock speed boost in percent is the gain in percentage they claimed, cant claim a boost when all you done is clocked it higher
These new imac's are the only macs every that i have actual liked to look at
I need to know what those wall tube track light things are
The problem with desktop AIOs is the same problem with most laptops, you are paying a premium for the form-factor, but unlike it's more portable cousins you have neither the portability nor the safety of surety with external display should the main display fail.
While I agree in principle, in reality we see if you actually part everything out and get a similar quality monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc your going to break roughly even and have a way uglier setup.
Kaptainkristian made a video about the 2013 movie Her and this computer feels like the closest thing to that movie's vision of the future. Unobtrusive design, actual color, powerful hardware without feeling the need to be in your face about it. The computer is just a medium and gets out of the way otherwise. I cant really explain it effectively, when I see this computer im just reminded of that video so I felt like sharing.
My “iMac ” is a 9th gen iPad on a stand alone with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Works for what I need lol but I can see the need for more expensive stuff like these imacs
a 3 year old computer is now landfill .. so green.
No? This will run and go for years. The presenter acts like people buy an imac for video editing, no. It’s a media consumption computer with a good display and speakers and great performance when needed.
Did MAC address rerelease this video?
I’d love to get the new iMac, especially with the option for 24gb of RAM, but I only got my m1 iMac 2 years ago and spending 2k doesn’t make sense for me at this point.
Same here
I struggle with products like this. I get it, people who want Apple and power go for it, but it just feels like always a worse choice. Now if you are looking for casual use, whether that be through a laptop or desktop, and you want an Apple device, then get like the Macbook Air or 1 of these. But trying to turn these into devices for people who need serious power, just feels odd.
To be clear, I think the M chips are fantastic, I bought a second hand iPad Pro 12.9 inch with 1TB/16GB and the M1, and it's extremely fast, it really is a powerhouse, and to have those chips in those packages is just really impressive. In that regard I think the Macbook and iMac are great devices, but just not for people who need a lot of power.
Maybe people look at them and think they are really powerful, but I think you are not comparing them to modern systems, but instead you've been living with the memory from 10 years ago.
To me these are the best mobile chips you can find, and that's a positive take. They just aren't the best chips for high performance usage. If you need that much power, forget about these M chips.
I love the current imac design. Sure id like a no chin/bezel design but im fine with it as is. Whats not ok is apples entry to mid level price to performance ratio. The pro end machines (studio, 14/16 in mbp, full mac pro) are great but most of us dont need that much power. Some of us just need more ram and storage but yet come right at the starting pro machine price 😔
Like i wouldve bought the m2 pro mac mini if the upgrades to ram and storage didnt equal the start of a mac studio. Cause while amazing i didnt need an max level chip nor did i want a chunky machine at my desk. I like the slim form factor of the mini. But that price trade off isnt worth it
Same goes for imac and the new 14in base m3 and the airs. Spec them up and they are nicer yet lesser than the pros for that same price. I get that apple wants to sell the pros with the highest profit margin. Thats business but seeing them make "avg consumer" products yet make reports like ppl dont want them and only buy pros is absurd. If you just adjusted the prices we'd buy the entry models. Just not for the specs you put it at
If anything raise the pro products by 500 bucks and lightly reduce the mid range value. A well specc'd imac shouldnt cost me 2k. Around 1500-1600 would be a sweet spot for most. Then just make mbps start at 2500. Pro users will still gravitate towards them anyways regardless of price. Its the fletchling creators and students that need the abilities of m chips and macs but not necessarily ready for pro worlflows/machines.
Like starting ytbers or photography businesses can totally work off imacs or mac minis. But if the storage or ram needed is already pro money, why buy the bottom bracket and just go straight for the top.
I am thinking of upgrading from my Apple Watch Series 1 to an ultra2 should I do it
