Firewire Rob "Machadocado" Surfboard Review Ep 146
In this episode, Noel Salas reviews Rob Machado's new surfboard called the "Machadocado" by Firewire Surfboards. Is it similar to the "Seaside?" Yes. However it has a squash tail, a little more surface area, and it rides as a twin plus trailer. Noel rode it at Waco Surf with his Twin plus Trailer fin set up in three sessions.
In session 1, Noel found that it carves well and has a lot of down-the-line speed with Rob's signature Twin + Trailer fin set up.
In session 2, he switches the fins and uses a smaller stabilizer. With the Pivot Twins in Prepreg Carbon, the board feels playful, you can push it hard through turns, and it fells a little more high performance compared to the "Seaside."
Finally, in session 3, Noel continued with his Pivot Twins +. Trailer in Prepreg Carbon and really started to gel with the board. Overall, the "Machadocado" pivoted faster, carried similar speed down the line and drew sharper turns compared to the "Seaside." It's a good paddler with lower rocker, which promotes a lot of down the line speed. For all the details, watch the full episode. Enjoy!

Also don't forgetcthe arm and hand positions of the leading arm. Palm up also helps rotation.
If i recall correctly your favourite groveler was the dominator 2.0, how would you compare these two boards? Looks like the machadocado might have a better lowrange but the dominator might give a little more performance?
Great review Noel! How would this compare to Pyzel’s White Tiger as a groveler for beach breaks? Is this one faster down the line?
Black baron 2.1 or bv2 for 3-6 foot wavers.
After watching Noel reviews I bought Pyzalien 2 and the Ghost. Pyzalien 2 has become my one board quiver and I've been enjoying it since the first try. Thanks Noel!
Glad I searched this I’ll add this to my swallow tail
Great showcase of the broad - thanks. It's kinda like a Dark Arts 'Dad Bod' (the first one with a squash tail) - the dimensions are similar too, with the Machadocado being even wider and more volume. I rode the Machadocado in small & lumpy, windy semi - close out surf and it kinda excelled there. It's def more of a groveler than the Mashup, but less so than the Seaside or Sweet Potato, so sizing it up a bit is less of a no-no. I like the tail and fin setup more on this than the Seaside and SP too, as it gets SUPER thin like you mentioned (thickness wise) which helps it pivot better. With the sea of swallow and round pins on the market, it's nice to see the classic squash back in action. This board doesn't jump out at you when you look at it in store, but I'm really glad it was suggested at one of their demos cause now I 'need' one lol. If I'm not mistaken, the total sq ft of this (Rob's) 2 plus 1 equals the same sq ft of his four fin quad set - and why the trailer is a big larger than normal. You're ripping on it too, look forward to more vids featuring it - cheers!
I still ride this model I can’t 2:34 find any fault with it I ride it as a twin with stabilizer I think it’s still perfect
Tempting!
Can anyone report how an oversized Cymatic rides? I'm looking at 6'2" or 6'4" @ 45ltrs. I'm 95kgs and "old".
so much focus on how the Cado sits relative to the Seaside but what about the Glazer? I see some similarities there too that I'm surprised haven't been contrast/compared
@@BeakNC sorry I never tried the Glazer
Best board name ever😂
Would be interested in knowing how it works in the ocean. Wavepark is irrelevant to surfers.
What next? Banana? Lettuce? Pear? Relasing so many different boards make the old ones redundant and with no value, when on really is another one like many others
I loved the speed of the Seaside, but I kept catching rails. Does this thing have the same speed and catch less rail ? which do you prefer yourself, Seaside or Machadocado ?
I had similar problems with the Seaside. This MC is a lot more forgiving in that area. It’s fast like the Seaside too. I like this one better

Great stuff Noel - thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
I would love to see you test some of the local hawaii shapers boards other than pyzel. Would be good for the guys going to hawaii for surf trips but want a board more tailored to hawaii surf like the pros do every year
@@bsmbB Not sure those boards would go well at Waco.
I am hoping to get a board from Glen Pang. I wouldn’t do any HPSB’s or step up boards. I think the pros do a great job riding the HPSB and the waves are not big enough in So Cal and other popular spots often enough for me to focus on those. Sorry
More Potatonator like vs Seaside .......
Board looks sick! Good size and good flow.
Tomo aside are getting a rocado?
@@tezf6883 😆 mayyyyybe. lol. Looks like a fun board.
I've been waiting for this review to come out since I got the email from Firewire about the release of the Machadocado. Got a couple of questions for you: How would you compare this board to the Mashup? And what dimensions would you recommend me if I want to get this board for my everyday board? I am 215lbs, 5'11", mostly surfing during the weekends, SoCal beach brakes from Newport to HB. I am debating between the 5'10" x 21 5/8" x 2 11/16" x 37.6L or going up to the 6'0" x 21 5/8" x 2 3/4" x 40.1L. I just got myself a Sweet Potato 5'6" x 22" x 2 9/16" x 37.8L in the Helium Core with Volcanic Lamination that I'm enjoying as a groveler board. I look forward to your feedback!
Your volume range for your weight at different skill levels. Pro/Expert 34-36L Advanced 36-38L Intermediate 39-41L If you currently like your 37L board then you can go for similar volume on the MC. The bigger size might feel a bit big in overhead waves with the extra volume. If your a strong paddler and like your boards more sensitive go for the smaller one. Another thing to consider is the strong currents in those Beachies and foam is your friend.
How does it compare to the flame fish?
Good comparison… Flame Fish might be a little Faster down the line but the MC is better in the pocket. Both boards will grovel well
I’m about same size as u, 160lb. Why go pretty short instead of 5’9” to 6’ shortboard. Do u lose speed?
I don’t like HPSB’s boards longer than my height. I especially don’t like boards longer than 5’6” at Waco Surf.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 if I grab smaller board like urs, do I lose speed or not really
@@Soloriderpowder Longer boards offer more rail line to generate speed with. I like a shorter board to put it where I want faster to generate speed surfing top to bottom quickly
Great Review! which one do you prefer between MC & Lost puddle jumper Sting in mush waves?
I prefer the PJ Sting. It has more flow and a bit more performance in the pocket as a Quad. As a Twin + Trailer I like the MC better.
How does this compare to Sweet Potato?
Sorry never tried that board.
Love this board picked up a dark horse in surftech construction in Bali 1 month ago. Goes sooo good. Only issue I've got is they ding if you look at them. Amazing board but not the best travel companion on a tour
wish they made a 5'3". The 5'4" is a whole 1" wider than the 5'2". The 5'4" definitely feels wide under the arm.
@@papamarban2185 I think a 5’3” is needed too
Dude what about that jump from 40 to 47 liters in the larger sizes? Though I think it’ll work upsized.

@@surfnshowreviews7777 Ahhh so you must book in advance. How many waves (Advanced) do you get in a session? I live in SoCal so not looking to book...just curious how it works, thanks Noel!
@@hewonyew You get roughly 12 waves per session + the occasional wave someone falls on or miss catching one.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thats more than I get now in a two hour ocean session!
sort of reminds me of the Sunday nose with the Twice Baked Tail and the Sweet Potato bottom. Near chumlee tail. I really like the look of it for my waves. thanks for the review.
@@ThomyeSurfs this MC out performs the Chumlee by a mile. I couldn’t get the Chumlee to do a legit turn in 1-3’ waves. It was fast… but I didn’t like to turn in the hook.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Yeah, I didn't like the Chumlee either. I could not set the rails on cutbacks. I would just tip over. this Board looks really legit for my weekend waves.
Still wanna try a smaller/medium sized Sunday a groveler..seems maybe they are phasing it out.
Why am I hearing about these everywhere now?

Hi. How does this board compare to a Gskate considering they have different tails and front end? Which one is more fund and allows to high performance?
@@JOSELUIS-ci2hs This MC out performs the GSkate in 1-3’ surf. It’s way faster and pivots better. The GSkate has a better upper end wave range with its overall rocker and pulled in tail.

Is it work good for the bottom turns with the rails?
I got one when they were first marketed in Aus, long before this review. I found the board temperamental, I’ve ridden it a few times playing with the different fin set ups, and in differing conditions. I found every surf some what frustrating, because I would stuff up a couple of good waves in a session, a typical session = 10-20 waves, so 2or3 throw aways as isn’t too bad I guess, but still annoying. I would bog a bottom turn, or not rap a cutie properly and it was always unexpected. I’m a front footed surfer, and this board does not like that at all. Weight transfer is crucial, more crucial is exactly when you transfer the weight. This board is not forgiving when transferring from speed over the front foot, driving off the bottom and into a turn. It’s almost as if though each element (speed, bottom turn, cut back) requires a different foot position. I have never had to pay so much attention to my foot position and weight transfer ever. Sometimes I find it stimulating because this board really takes some taming and makes you think about your surfing, other times I find it really frustrating, because I just want to surf, not constantly think about where my feet are and consciously preempting weight transfer, and I especially hate bombing an awesome wave, which happens a lot on this board.
@@TJ-tp7ji Thanks for posting… I agree this board can be temperamental for front footed surfers like yourself and my buddy Asa. In the end… learning to surf more off the back foot and work on weight transfer will make you a better surfer. I hate blowing waves too… I do it all the time. Learning is priceless for me. I had the same experience you are having with the Lost Sub Driver 2.0. I find that it suits heavily front footed surfers and wants to be driven from the front end of the board. It took a bit for me to get used to. However, when I did the board was fun. It taught me to transfer my weight differently and makes me a better surfer.
