  • In this episode, Noel Salas reviews the JS Black Baron 2.1. He meets up with Brent Riley in Oceanside, California at the JS U.S. headquarters to get the ins and outs of what was behind the design of the new Black Baron 2.1 -- one of the newest "twins" in the JS lineup. This special surfboard falls somewhere between the OG Black Baron, which was a favorite of Noel's and JS's first twin fin, and a small wave groveler. The center box was added, so you can change the fin set ups and customize how you want the board to feel underfoot. Noel went for a 5'6 for that punchy beach break and a 5'5 for his wave pool board. He says he had no problem linking turns with his Surf n' Show Twin Plus Trailer fin set up. The tapered rail engages and is a bit more high performance than the original. Noel and Brent dive deeper on the surfboard contours, the special H-Fi EPS construction and more. Ian Wooly Macpherson describes the Black Baron 2.1 as super-fast with excellent drive and hold. Asa Cascavilla gives some tips on how to ride this board, Noel shares the best fin set ups in both Futures and FCS twins. Enjoy!

    The Wooly sections add so much to and compliment your reviews. The bigger guy in different waves and your technical breakdown. Much easier to consider how a board will size up / size down having those two reference points. Awesome

    Hey,
    Have you surfed the Baron 2.0? Can you compare it, especially it looks like that it’s better in bigger waves however loses a bit on smaller days. By any chance could you also compare the baron to the hypto twin and where you would see the differences?

    I feel like one day I'm going to watch one of your reviews and you'll say your stock dims are 4"0 , 12" x 1" . And your step up is 5"0 at 22 litres.
    Very few people on the planet can relate to surfing boards the size you do. 😂. Even Medina surfs more volume than you 😂.
    Fan of the show 👏 🙌
    Every time I watch your vids I say out loud "grab your favourite drink" 😊.

      Most pros ride more volume compared to me. They also ride longer boards… it’s a preference right. When I surfed on your back in the late 90’s I rode 6’0” x 18.5 x 2 1/4 thick… I’m not into longer board anymore and I like my boards ultra sensitive.
      Thanks for supporting our show!! Cheers

    Hey noel, how would you recommend standing on those kind of boards? I feel like placing the back foot all the way back on the grip makes the board lose a bit of control since there's not enough resistance from the small trailer, and placing the back foot just above the twin fins makes the board go better.

      Twin Turbo is faster and maneuvers in the pocket more like a small wave performance board with a Twin Turbo+ Trailer set up. The BB2.1 will carve better in bigger waves as it seems to have a little more rocker.

    I have been a js fan since early 2000s got a fly boy model from back then that's still a killer board. Just got a carbotune xero gravity and it's insane. It's so good I bought another in hyfi 2 and it's killer as well. Jason has always made some of the best boards on the planet. Will there be a xero gravity review coming? Keep up the awesome reviews

    • @surfnshowreviews7777
      @surfnshowreviews7777  Před 7 měsíci +2

      96 and G skate are hybrid… wide nose outlines. This BB2.1 offers a bit more performance in the pocket. More rail line and tighter turns in the pocket.

      Hey Noel, your recent reviews have helped so many people on buying. , I liked the last Q and your answers re, 2.1/Skate and RNF.
      Your reviews are certainly suited to youngish rippers,multiple turns.
      Q, I’m 60yrs surf ok, I have found I like around 42ltrs ( no laughing 😮) and around 6’4 length, basically surf 2-3 beach. Like bigger waves when on, What would be my one board quiver in 6’4 length. RNF 96/ G skate or JS 2.1

      Not at this time. The CI Pro 2 and other HPSB’s like it have too much rocker. They need a real wave with some power to be in their element. Most HPSB’s the tour guys are surfing are not that user friendly and for them to go good you have to use your rails to get them going. Not sure the majority of our community will benefit from these types of boards compared to boards with less rocker that have get up n go speed.

    • @guitaoud
      @guitaoud Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thanks for answering, that makes sense. If you had to pick one board for CI which would be the most all-round and which covers the most conditions, what would that be? I live in France in les Landes near Hossegor and we only have beach breaks with fairly fast waves.
