Illinois Storm Engine Dyno | 470 Stroker
I've collected the parts and Don has assembled the motor for the Illinois Storm. I wanted to see what all we had and it was time to do a few pulls on the engine dyno.

I'm still working on getting the body straight on the Coronet. I have a low spot on the roof that should have been fixed before now. I'll have to address this problem. I had the front bumper straightened and chromed courtesy of AMS Obsolete. Give Mike a call www.amsnos.com/
Resurrecting the Illinois Storm | 1967 Plymouth Belvedere II

Joel found a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere on Brady Street in Davenport, IA. Originally a 383 4 speed car, Joel and his brother Kevin built a tunnel rammed 383 and raced it locally at Cordova and Byron dragstrips. It's changed hands many times and has been parked for the last 25 years. It's time to go racing boys!

That is an interesting radiator used on the dyno.
Almost all dynos use that setup. It's not an engine run stand.
It is, I'm not clear on all of the workings of that machine.
I have a 496rb in my 64 dart that made 630 and 576 on engine dino.
That's pretty wicked, tough to keep traction I'm sure.
Sounds Awesome!
Thanks
Crazy I've kept my old block for decades and ready to do it up after years of sbc builds. Still have the original 727 and 8 3/4. Serious on the 470 vs 500 for daily driver stuff. Nice numbers. I'm not going racing but local and long distance cross country trips. Just want my Big Mopar again after many years without running one.
I hear ya man, hopefully you pull it off.
Goals. Holy cow it’s cool to see what serious stuff looks like. I have seen those indie kits in the magazines. That thing is going to haul some butt.
She ought to do pretty good Max.
This is going to be awesome!! It sounded great!!
I'll finish it up in my spare time.
Chuck as long as it's not dog years Or Bourbon years that's ok HAHAHA
I like Bourbon...
Great numbers !!! At 470 cubes , that’s an impressive engine 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Gotta love a BB Mopar
Sounds like it made good numbers, maybe a little tweaking will bump it up a fuzz.
There may be a little left, mostly with the carb.
I'm here watching Chuck.👍 Nice numbers, sounds great. Should run really good. Your Dyno guys seem like they are some good guys and really know what they're doing. Thanks for sharing. Have a good weekend. 👍
Sure thing Ed, those guys definitely know what they're doing.
Must be a low deck revving like that! Sounds healthy. Go Mopar!
Yessir, stay tuned
Do we have some power and torque numbers?? Sounds awesome!
Coming soon
Nice Chuck, sounds great.👍👍🇺🇸
Thanks Ed
Nice Chuck, sounds great. 👍🇺🇸
Yeah it sure does
Cool, is that your motor?
Yeah Jeff, that's for the race car.
Is that the motor for the 65 coronet?
That's for the race car, the Illinois Storm.
It'll turn out to be that much better of a paint job
Sure will!
That will be as fine as hairs on a frog
Let's hope so Bernie.
Your doing that car justice! It's going to be amazing!
It's coming along.
I like to dial it in with pounce powder, a dry guidecoat product, then either wet or dry 400 (I prefer dry), use an air blow nozzle on your sandpaper, to keep it clean and last longer. Then on to 600, in your case for metallics. Looking awesome Chuck!
Thanks for the advice Todd
You guys are getting dialed in, just more sanding, lol
A bunch more sanding for sure.
Nice's, it looking a lot better.
I think so too!
Looking nice.👍👍
Thanks 👍
Looks like the sanding came out good!!
Well, it's coming for sure.
Coming along nicely!
Getting there.
Oh it's just a little more sanding, help getting it straighter.
A little more elbow grease.
@@Chuck_House_of_Mopar Rite, it's gonna look great when you get done with it.
Would this same procedure apply to a 2001 B1500 van with the 3.9 liter V6? Is this basically the same engine that's in my van? I work on mostly foreign cars but I'm not familiar with this particular design. Thanks!
That I do not know. I would suspect that the intake is of a different design.
I had to replace the bumper on my old F-150. Insurance sent me to a company to pick it up. The outside looked good chrome plated, but the inside had no plating or protection. I primed and painted the back, and installed it.
I've done the very same thing on my trucks Bob. At least now they have some chrome on the back.
It is a good arm workout
For sure
Wax on, wax off! Making progress!👍👍💯
Gettin' there Thanks
What was the trans amount he used?
He made the crossmember himself. The mount is for a GM TH350 for practically any car build from the late 70s to the early 90s. He suggests getting the Energy Suspension piece that has 3 tapped holes. He used the center hole with a stud through the crossmember. They sell the Energy piece at O'Reilly's.
"Big" progress, "little" progress, whatever...as long as the momentum keeps forward, all that matters. Yeah, this friggin 90's heatwave puts the kibosh on the grunty/sweaty stuff like sanding for sure. No worries, plenty of other things to take care of always. This too shall pass. See you next one, *Chuck* . Always a pleasure, since channel day 1! - Ed on the Ridge
Progress is progress for sure. Thanks Ed
Hate to hear your tree came down, the roof is looking better and that bumper, wow looks great. Keep the updates coming.
I'll stay after it Jeff. Thanks
You probably know this but the 64 polara and 65 coronet use the same bumper. But the 64 polara had extra holes. I just bolted in bumper bolts to fill the empty holes
No, I didn't know that. Good info, thanks
Bumper looks nice.
It really does. Thanks
Chuck that low spot in the roof will come out with heat shrinking. It works. If I lived there I would bring my oxy/acty rig over and do it for you. Warning: Do Not try it with Propane
Thanks Neal, yeah I've seen guys do that on videos. Outside of my skill set. Bondo it is. Thanks
😎👍
Wow that thing is really nice. Can't believe you kept it under wraps so long.
I helps when you completely forget about it Jeff.
Beauty 😍!!!
It's a nice car
My favorite post and car that I've been honored to see you build. I've learned a lot from you buddy through the years... about cars and life. It's been a thrill to spend parts of it with you, my friend! Looking forward to seeing it on the track and you behind the wheel!😊
Thanks Mikey, we're going to have to take her to the track together.
Sometimes the overheating problems on old cars is corrosion/rust build-up inside the engine block. The water passages get restricted and or plugged-up.
Yeah, that very well could be the case. Arlyn did have the motor rebuilt, I would think that block was hot tanked but who knows.
Im also in Il and we didnt get any cicadas!😢
Yeah they're worse in different spots to the point that they pile up and start smelling. Wahoo
About a week's work by yourself.
Only if I can stop time. Thanks
Nice project Mr.Mopar can't wait to see it running.
Thanks Andy, me as well.
Welldone sir, and thank you! Gonna make that tool too!
Good deal Michael and thanks.
You're a good guy Chuck. But you probably already knew that. Glad I get to call you my friend. :)
Thanks JD
You lost me with the idiotic mask hanging from your fu Cking mirror
👍👍
Thank you Chuck. Your the man!
Happy Father's day
You are a man's man and doing the right things
