  • The Dodge Ram SS/T was offered in 1997 and 1998 and it was an offshoot of the 1996 Dodge Ram Indy pace truck. The Super Sport Truck (SS/T) came with an upgraded 5.9 Magnum, a 3.91 rear gear and special 17x9 wheels.
The color offerings were white, red, green and black and sported a really cool stripe package with blue stripes on the white trucks and silver on the other colors.
Jay bought his truck from his uncle and knew that there were rust issues but just how deep they were came to light a little later on. It was obvious that it need fenders and bed sides but he soon realized that the back half of the frame was junk too.

I'd like to own an SST. Way back in the days, I ended up with the first '95 extended cab sold in Red Deer. Then bought a '98 V10 5spd Quadcab. Loved it so much, got a '01 V10 5 spd Quadcab. Over the years switched over to older used Dodge trucks. My latest is a '18 Powerwagon. Just been lucky, with no issues with Dodge trucks. My '80 Powerwagon is getting tired now, smokes bad on start up, and the NP435 growls. My high school project with my late father was a '57 D100. It's getting my attention now. Hasn't been plated since mid 80's. Money is tight, but I've had the '57 since the early 80's, and the '80 PW since '02. I get to attached to trucks.

Very cool story, I've not seen many V10s on the road. I did happen to see one in the salvage yard a while back.
      Thanks

2nd gen Rams were revolutionary designs that set the whole pickup industry on its' ear.
Their "big rig" fender styling and such were the originals for what was to come...very popular
at the time, too. Dodge was behind the others in sheer power numbers though - but I'd put up
either the 318 or 360 against anything the others were building as far as durability goes.
The weak link were the automatics, of course - but once you got it rebuilt with proper BorgWarner
    innards, they were fine also.
Thanks for the trip back, Chuck. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Should be a nice truck when it's done. At least they built 6000 of those over a couple years, it should make parts hunting a little easier that for a car that they only made 3000 of('13 Charger Dayton). There was a black ss/t at the yard I hunt parts at, smashed inn the front of course, and only 3 of the 'cool wheels'. A clone truck is a good project, you can add or change things without worry. Hope to see itvin B.G., parked next to the Coronet!👍

Yeah I agree, he should have her done. I'd pick up those 3 wheels and wait for the 4th. They're hard to find.

@Chuck_House_of_Mopar I thought about it, considered putting them on my quad cab 4x4, or reselling them if nothing else. But unfortunately, if nobody grabbed them, I think they went to the squisher with the truck.😦 I really hate to see that, but ya can't save them all. There's just not enough room at our house .....lol

The Indy Ram was not the pace truck. It was the official truck of the 1996 Indy 500. The pace car was the Viper GTS. The Indy Ram was a one year only model in blue with white stripes. The SS/T (1997&1998) came in black, red, and green all with silver stripes and white with blue stripes.

I thought people put bigger plates inside of frame rails. Is that a 72 duster in there?

I'm trying to convince them to box the frame. Yep, Jay has a '72 Duster.
