I got bitten by a dog last February in Jomtien Na area.

Hi Phil. Good post!! Soi dogs out my way and everywhere. They start coming out on guard at 5 pm in their packs. And their around all days. Sad thing is when your trying to explore small villages temples etc your always met at the beginning of the soi or on the grounds by soi dogs... They truly are a nuisance. Been this way for years. Our housekeeper was bit 3 weeks ago on her scooter coming to work. Many times you have to get the series of injections at the hospital too. Just nasty. Dog lover or not.

im glad u took it lightly phil interms of reaction.. i think it was a mixture of the dog protecting his "owner" (american guy) and the fact u was holding the selfie camera stick... you took it the right way... onlh thing i would advise is maybe blur out the americans face in the video...

It could have been a lot worse Phil , I walk in the other direction every morning up the hill from my condo and under the road and up to the viewing point by the cafe and down around the harbour . In the last 12 months, I've seen a reduction in the number of dogs on that stretch I walk.

Its not the dogs fault but YOURS , the dog is sleeping and you come too close and you scream or say something thats why he react , the dog only warning you , if you make more space and be quiet nothing happens, ..........belongs that dog to that man also?

I love dogs but they are a real problem in parts of Thailand. Luckily there don't seem to be that many in Pattaya in the main tourist areas however I have still seen a few around. I have been bailed up by dogs a few times in Thailand - usually at night when they get around in packs in quieter areas when I am on a scooter. A few years ago, I was passenger on the back of a scooter in Udon Thani & cracked a dog on the snout with a bottle of scotch I was carrying purely to prevent getting bitten, or maybe even pulled off the back of the bike if the dog got a good grip as it was a big dog. I lost the Jonnie Red as I swung so hard that it left my hand after hitting the dog's snout & smashed on the road but the dog probably saw stars & certainly lost interest. I figure that the bottle of Jonnie Red was still considerably cheaper than your hospital bill. Cheers

I have 2 dogs. My vet told me rabies is still in Thailand. She said I am in a higher risk of being bit having a dog and walking them daily so she urged me to get preventative shots for rabies. 20 years ago I was relocated to Shanghai. I was working for a global company that had a global doctor who set up medical staff in each country. He gave me all the shots which I questioned were necessary. He told me the CFO that had been sent before me had sent his wife n kids 3 months earlier settle in. He turned up and played with the kids and dog was protective and bit him. He was dead from rabies within 48 hours…hence why this company had set up these procedures. Without panicking that could have also happened to you so you 100% did the right thing. I would definitely discuss this with the man who looks after but unlikely owns these dogs so he can warn others and possibly yell at the dog when it does it again. Because it will. These dogs will walk behind you and if no eye contact will bite again. If you weren’t looking in the camera and looked at it in the eyes it would not attack. You are a good man handling this the way you have and will drop in for a beer when in town next.

A lot of dogs don't like my e-scooter. Seem threatened by it for some reason.
