  • All around Central and North Pattaya and some parts of Nagua. There are massive empty plots of land. Just recently shops have been evicted to clear another plot. What is going on?

**Great video Boss!** I drove up 2nd road all the way up to Soi 20 on my way to The WongAmat Tower to check out some apartments that might be in my future. I was surprised about all the stuff in that area! And Yes... Me being the "Posh" guy I am... I do have the blue toilet tabs!

I came to Pattaya first time in 1985. Back then there were only two roads, beach road and second road - which was a gravel road😊. No bars on second road, only beach road had bars. Even the sois were quiet. And no walking street, just the extention of beach road. Im going back this fall, cant wait to see the changes since my last trip in - 1993 🙄.

So many memories in this video.
The building around 13 minutes is the Peace Resort hotel where I stayed numerous times until it closed during COVID and has never reopened. Rumours were that it and all the land around is/was owned by the Best Supermarket owners (Chinese?)
Drinking Street was my go to area for years until it changed its target audience, who then tended to dominate the place from midnight onwards.
Having spent a lot of time at Centric Sea in the last year, the hotel in front has not been knocked down but has been gutted and extended, don’t think it will be part of Centric.

    • @LePubPattaya

I've got some great memories of that area going back to '97.
Greg's kitchen opening opposite soi6, then moving to Drinking Street around '07.
Possibly Nakluas only gogo bar, Pussy Cat agogo, just next to the new Akara, now 7/11.
Jack's bar where Akara now is. 🥰

It is sad to see it closed down now as I had some good memories of it... good restaurant, tennis, gardens, pool etc. That was also the trip I met my wife and we are still together today. In the grand sole a couple of times back in the day and also the Sabai resort for a couple of months , it’s such a shame what is happening to north pattaya , let’s hope that they decide what they want to with land very soon

It seems kinda dumb to call it an island when you do you cant distinguish the difference between the other islands from the round about. I recall going into what I thought was an abandoned tall building around there, with the intention of hanging a huge prank poster on the outside of the building. It was occupied and we had to pretend we were looking to rent when we got sprung - I was about to dangle off the top floor and attach my huge PVC sign.

Much of that vacant land is owned by developer AWC who are the property arm of Chang. They have approval to build 2 Marriott hotels, retail outlets, a convention centre, a zoo and a Legoland. Possible casino site IMO.
Grand Sole was never demolished; the original building is being renovated by AWC.
Many of those businesses near Dolphin Circus have moved up towards Naklua or nearby. There is a pretty strong bar scene further up the hill and on some side sois.

The huge plot south of Soi 6 will become Asiatique District Pattaya, has been in the plans for a few years. A mega shopping mall (yes, really), with multiple hotel and condo towers on top. Looking a bit like an urban jungle in the concept images and it will most likely be the biggest building in Pattaya when done. Pattaya and Jomtien will more and more turn into a Copacabana with many more high rise buildings and $$$, once the high speed rail is finished and eventually the monorail along 2nd road exists.

Runway street food is the most disappointing landmark in Pattaya. The 747 just sits there, looking grotty. It's not integrated into it in any way and doesn't really add any value except making it very easy to find. As for the area being the "new place to be", time will tell. Very similar to development sites in many parts of the world where Chinese developers have run out of money. In some cases, they continue to lease out the facilities (particularly where municipalities have forced them to) but very often the Chinese simply leave them vacant. Naklua has progressively become Chinese oriented so I suspect that is the focus with those vacant properties. As we have seen elsewhere, those properties may be available at below cost because the Chinese developers are actively liquidating anywhere they can. That whole country has been built on debt.
