Asics have been showing up in the trail world for the last 12-18m. The Trabuco Max 2 and Trabuco 11 are both great shoes, this one looks great too and I love that colourway!!

If you're a fan of the Trabuco Max, I definitely recommend checking out the Fuji Lite 4. It is a really fun shoe!

Great review as always 👍 Wouldn't you want the torsional stiffness for stability when moving laterly forward? Like moving sideways as you traverse some roots / rocks?

250 miles in my 2's..... Pretty much the same shoe as V3. 320 grams in a size 9 UK but have a good rocker so has a good flow to it. Used on some seriously wet trails and the ASICS grip is a bit special. Next level grip. Can run on road but not the best

My experience with this shoe has been awesome for dry trails. Technical as well. If you’re mountain running wet conditions they really stink. Slippery on wet rocks. Otherwise a solid shoe

Just too firm for me for max height shoe. Give me Zegama or NB more foam Trail where my legs get relief. I’d rather opt for lower to ground option that’s lighter if i want firmer ride. I do love the color. In dry CO all my shoes default to this color. Plus you can step out in some flashier socks in shoes like this and not look like a total kook.

I got the max 2’s last year and was BLOWN away by the grip … I’ve run in almost every shoe company possible and the ASICS grip is insaaaane!!

The colors on trail shoes are really bad recently. Brooks being the worst.

Does it give you any asics superblast vibes (but for the trail)? that road shoe is the best ive owned. Can be a little hard initially but after 50 miles or so it opens up and is epic.

My reference point is the Speedgoat, watching this review i concluded that the asics is not better.

Your color grading makes shoes look waaaaaay better than in person. 😉 And the Ginger is getting old. I see that gray.

Great review Ethan, thank you. I have loved the ASICS T-Max2 for 300+ trail miles; however, I notice that I catch my toes on rocks/roots more in theT- Max2 than my other shoes. Maybe it is the big stack or maybe an occasional lazy gait. You are correct about this colorway being boring/blah. I'm also a ginger runner, I like a colorful shoe and will wait before buying the Max3 to see what other colors ASICS offers.

Thanks Ethan! I'm looking for a cushioned trail cruiser at the moment, and have been bouncing around between a new pair of SG5, Xodus Ultra 2, or the Trabuco Max 2. Still undecided 😅

I’m glad you referenced the Hoka in comparison… I used to love asics but I think I would be very nervous to ditch my speedgoats for this one 🤷‍♀️

This is a great shoe for the road or for very gentle trails....it is way too loose for anything slightly technical. Otherwise great. Would use it as a road shoe, but not a trail shoe.

This version of the Wildhorse is manufactured in China. Curious about previous iterations - where they were made, if someone could chime in please!

I have been wesring Salomons since the 90s and find their fit consistent model to model. For the Puksar I have sized up one size fir more toe room. Fit does not serm sacrificed doing so but no runs yet. More hiker/jogger snyway but there is hope they manage the tasks well.

Totally agree on both points Price and Endorphin. When I head about the Kinvara Pro I expected $140ish (maybe not a CF plate) But $200 is ridiculous when theres Speed and Pro already in the range! I wonder what Saucony rationale is for this shoe being basically competition for its own products!

Rebel v4 or boston 12? Im a fairly new runner training for my 1st half marathon in 3 months

I have just finished watching this and its hit home a little. In a week I have a 24km charity event that I have made infinitely harder by adding 24kg in a bag to do it with. I had also put an arbitrary time limit on myself, and that has, perhaps obviously to some, added a lot of stress in my life recently. Am I training too hard, too easy, what if I don't get it in that time...but who cares. The point is to complete it, to push myself and to learn. Learn what I am capable of both physically and mentally. So thank you for this accidental find and the slightly more clear sightedness it has given me ahead of what will be a brilliant day.

What shoe would you say are like this but has good traction?

I tried the Kinvara Pro at the store and the midsole felt too firm compared to the Endorphins so I passed on it.

With the V3 on sale right now for only $50 each (for two pairs) at Joe's, it's a no-brainer of an alternative to the V4, which is nowhere near 3X better than the V3 and will likely be liquidated this time next yr. I tend to wait for hype to die down and they go on sale, since being late to the party while I enjoy what I own drastically reduces the impact on my bank account. Keeping up with the Jones' (e.g., YT reviewers) is a money pit for those of us who aren't subsidized. Kudos to the relatively few reviewers, e.g., Hes Kicks, for making a point of reporting good deals when they drop.

I hated speedboats until a month in than I loved it for everything, road, tread, trail, and okay longevity. I’m hesitant on brooks as the ghost was bad for me. Generally the online reviews and top ten lists seems ad driven and not useful. Anything with Nike in top 3 and I scroll past. I might give these a try

I have kind of wide feet, based on the fact that a lot of Hokas and Adidas especially are too narrow for me. I tried the Speedgoat 5 and it too was too narrow. I then found out that they offer a Wide-version of the SG5. I bought a pair and they fit perfectly. Just a tip for those of you suffering from wide feet syndrome, like me.
