    A bit strange to complain about the anklecollar when you're wearing noshow socks in shoes with an integrated collar. Could that be the issue? I would never wear noshow socks for trails.

    • @perdomot

      I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if he tried taller socks.

    • @zoebaz6969
      @zoebaz6969 Před 10 měsíci

      My thought as well. But at the same time, a good shoe should probably not be dependent on specific socks to protect from blistering?

    •  Před 10 měsíci

      I guess the collar did not cause any problems but the heel cup contouring, padding and lockdown did.

      I’m trying it out right now, it’s definitely less annoying in longer socks but I can still feel the collar more than I’d like :(

    I had my eye on these as I really hoped the softer looking ankle collar would help my ongoing achilles issue. Glad I watched this

      Nike shoes that have like the straight heel but with that strip of cushioning best for achilles. Like Kiger 8. Kiger 9 is now a molded heel so doesnt work.

    @SeeChadRun Před 10 měsíci

    Interesting... I have this shoe and have had no issues at all! Somewhat surprisingly, I've had no achilles heel issues or folding fabric (though I do notice some folding, it doesn't create hot spots). I like the off white color which is more brown now after many miles ran. I also like the midsole feel at all paces but feel that it really comes alive at faster paces. The outsole Contragrip is also stellar in both dry and wet conditions! Lastly, I found this shoe to do surprisingly well when wet/submerged despite not having drainage ports/holds and I think that is because most of the fabrics on the upper don't want to hold onto water. So, all this said, I love this shoe! Great review GR!

    I agree completely about the heel collar and fit! The right shoe for me as well was worse than the left. Always caused blisters/hotspots. I couldn’t bring myself to run more in them due to the issues.

      You can have the best well made shoe in the world one single item can make or break it for you... That said, luckily for me, I haven't had ANY collar/heel issues in my pair. Sounds like I'm the exception rather than the rule.

  • @kentkeeler
    @kentkeeler Před 10 měsíci

    Tried these a couple times and had the same issue on my left Achilles. When I look at both shoes, the left upper was stitched tighter and pulled in much more at the heel. If the manufacturing was consistent, I think they would work much better for me. They also have a strip of harder fabric sewn in to make the heel durable, and that stiff piece is what rubs and causes blisters. Can’t wear them as manufactured.

    Also had this and got blisters on the inside of the ball of foot. Wanted to love but not sure the design works for these (or my feet). Not in the SLAB Genesis and it feels like what this should be. First Salomon in a loooong time that just feels right out the box.

    This could be a manufacturing issue! I had the same issue with my first pair of Salomon S/Lab Ultra 3, and after months of use and blisters, I reached out to Salomon who sent me a new pair with which I've never had issues!!

  • @mirichbolivia
    @mirichbolivia Před 10 měsíci +2

    I had the SAME issue with the north face vector infinite, especially due to the thin and high collar... ran about 40 miles total, and couldn't stand the bleeding achilles any longer! No matter which socks I wore. However, those are super good looking shoes, so they just became daily walking shoes, which didn't make me bleed!

  • @hiromancer

    The heelcolar is not a problem for me, the fit-issues are at the forefoot for me. I can't get a good lockdown in the forefoot and my forefoot starts to hurt after about 5k. I thought i need to break them in, but after 30k nothing changed and i gave up on them.

  • @natdesjardins24
    @natdesjardins24 Před 10 měsíci

    I think the problem with these too is the plate - it is not rock friendly, as soon as you make a side incline step the foot is sliding around inside the shoe because the plate is too sturdy so im getting ankle ligament strain!

  • @p1deckard

    As someone still running in S-lab Sense 7’s and XA Amphib 2’s, Solomon’s recent direction with midsole foam is pretty disappointing. I find it far too squishy, especially the heel area. Combining the rocker with a mushy heel is awful and I sent back Pulsar SG 2’s due to the feel the shoe would roll over sideways. Probably a fun midsole for the forefoot but it could have used a firmer density back half.
    And I’ve experienced right foot heel blistering in the S-Lab Cross 2’s, which is a shame because they feel akin to older Sense and Amphib with a firmer feel. First time even having such an issue with Salomon. Sad their shoes don’t seem to work well for me anymore, but happy my XA Amphib 2’s are going strong with 350 miles on them and I have another pair in the box

  •  Před 10 měsíci +1

    Where did you get the blisters? I bet the collar did not cause them.
    I have run about 800km on Pulsar trail pro version 1 and it never caused any problems although the heel lockdown was not the most secure. They say the has been improved on the second version but I guess they have just tried to make it sturdier which might actually be causing more problems.
    I havent heard complaints about heel lockdown on slab models with similar heel and collar design and they have less rigid heel cups.
    In my opinion heel cup should have hard and rigid parts only on the sides and the rear middle section should be soft and grippy inside - like VJ Bold X, which doesn't give you the most secrure lockdown in the first place but when you actually start running they never cause any problems.
    Worst heel design is rigid cup with lots of padding and slippery materials inside.
    I don't get why many manucaturers put slippery materials inside running shoes. Sure they feel nice when you first try them on but will most definitely cause problems in the long run.

    is this for wide feet?

  • @raphaelmartins849
    @raphaelmartins849 Před 10 měsíci +1

    Seems very similar to the Pulsar Pro 1 that I had, which caused issues on the top of the foot, with those fold overs and laces biting on the top of the foot, because you need to tight them so much to have a good lockdown... Changed laces for more elastic ones or just normal ones. It helped but not perfect. Manufacturers are trying those sock like designs, while looking very nice, they just don't work for a running shoes... Also the round shape of the outsole/midsole at the heel make it quite prone to rolling an ankle on technical terrain. Tried to like them, but had to give up after a few runs. Wish Salomon would bring an update to their sense pro 4...

    • @RowOfMushyTiT
      @RowOfMushyTiT Před 10 měsíci

      Tongue is thicker/stiffer and fit is overall better on this version, so that issue is gone (for me).

    •  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Trail shoes should have low and narrow soles to avoid rolling ankles. Max cushioned and stiff shoes are not the right direction for actual trail shoes. Sure they might be good for smooth unpaved ROADS but you might just as well use road running shoes on them.

    I’m done with Salomon because their energy foam feels dead and flat after around 150-200 miles. Really disappointed with my ultraglides while my peg trail 4 just feels good for ages. Seems like many companies just make shoes for reviewers so they only have to last till about 150 miles max for most of them

    Even at $120 it’s not worth it. I’ve run three 14 mile sessions with it so far while training for a trail marathon. Comfort is mediocre because the fused tongue monolith fabric on the upper is slightly stiff, as you stated with the ankle collar. Tightening the laces holds mid foot but heel and toes don’t get a good wrap, especially since uppers isn’t cushioned. The shoe looks like the Nike Alpha Fly but does not have the comfort. Also it seems better as a road to light trail shoe, especially since the shoe fabric and midsole does not help prevent twisting ankle. I would not use it for a race since I don’t get good propulsion.

    •  Před 10 měsíci

      I used the first version for a race and won 😃 I got very good propulsion and also secure fit because it is not padded.
