    another great review, keep them coming! (I sized down on slab genesis to 12.5 from saucony/nike 13)

    Great review. I had tried on the SLAB Genesis about a year ago but had to send back as I felt that the toe box and the midfoot were on the shallow side for my foot shape. Perhaps I could have got used to the low toe box with some usage, but the low mid-foot becomes very uncomfortable due to my high arch and in-step. It is a challenge to find shoes with a taller mid-foot design that also provides a secure fit, which is needed for the rugged east coast trails.
    Thanks again for your review; it was quite thorough with good conclusions.

    Great comparison, looks like I'll stick with the S/LAB version. Conditions at the Großglockner were nasty last year. My feet never got completely dry again after the first hour 😅. I went with the Mafate Speed 4 which performed admirably. If you had fun, I'd recommend checking out the Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail.

      Thanks, I'll check that one out. Großglockner was awesome but I went into it beat up from a long season. Would love to do that one or something similar when I'm feeling fresher

    Very profound comparison 👍👍. I'll stick to my s/labs (484kms) and keep a lookout for a discounted second pair. Great deal you found on yours.

      There's also a new S/LAB version out in a blue/black/white colorway - looks to be the same shoe as the original. I haven't heard about any differences. If you can find a discounted gray/yellow model, it's a no-brainer.

      Thanks for the rad reviews. Considering a pair of the genesis non s right now..... Not a big fan of the SALOMON mid sole foam, but the shoe does fit precisely..... also.... the new ultra fdh units.... i like the slightly more relaxed fit better, but there is zero flex, zero twist in the midsole..... seems more like a fire road blaster.... this is a pro slab shoe?!?!?

    • @MikeP-RTR
      @MikeP-RTR Před 3 měsíci

      @@suggg I think whatever flavor of Energy Foam is in the Genesis models - is different and feels better on the run than any other Salomon's I've run in recently - including Pulsar Trail Pro 2, Sense Ride 5, Ultra Glide 2. I don't have any insight into those Ultra FDH's - they look intriguing but I've never held one in hand or even seen one.

    I'm in Tucson, AZ and need a show that's for ROCKS and technical terrain. I bought the s/lab Genesis and really like it. They are sold out in my size and was going to buy/try the regular Genesis. Your review really helped me with the comparison. I feel like the Genesis would be good enough but still have Slight hesitance on getting it. I run about 8-10 miles a day pretty much. I don't go for too long of a distance.. But the terrain here is rough. I'm hardly ever on just plain ol dirt. I also am running Up the mountains so.. Not sure if the Regular Genesis Isa good fit for me. 🤔 I hate this haha I need shoes soon.

    • @MikeP-RTR
      @MikeP-RTR Před 3 měsíci +1

      I think it depends on what you're looking for - I'd go S/LAB if you lean towards wanting more agility in rocky/technical/mountain terrain - you know how those feel already. With the regular Gen, you lose a small bit of agility, but you do gain more cushion and a smoother ride. In technical terrain you'd just have to know how to handle a little more cushion underfoot. The shoe itself can certainly handle it. You also lose a bit of traction as you can see in the outsole side-by-side, but the regular Gen is still more than capable.

    Hey mike! When you swap in inov-8 boomerang insoles do you cut them to size?

    • @MikeP-RTR
      @MikeP-RTR Před 3 měsíci

      No, I have Boomerangs in 9.5 and 10.0, so I can usually fit the right size when I swap. I haven't used them in Genesis. I was thinking about swapping in something thinner to maybe gain some volume in the toebox.

    would sizing up another 1/2 size on the regular model not invite possible tripping?

    • @MikeP-RTR
      @MikeP-RTR Před 11 dny +1

      I don't think so, unless true to size is already long for you. Many runners (trail especially) wear shoes that are too small. If you're running any kind of hills, you need that FULL thumbs with in front of the toes to account for the normal flex of the shoe + forward foot movement on descents.

  • @er6fboy
    @er6fboy Před 3 měsíci

    In the s/lab's, the insole is only very slightly glued, only the first time you have to pull a little bit, but after that, it goes in and out with ease, or you can use other insoles if you want ;-)

    How to the Genesis compare to the Salomon Ultra Glides in terms of cushioning?

    • @MikeP-RTR
      @MikeP-RTR Před měsícem

      Cushion-wise they feel somewhat similar, but the Ultra Glide 2 feels narrower under the forefoot. I like the spread out feel of the wider Genesis base - for me it absorbs impact better. I do think the Ultra Glide would work well for heel strikers though as it has more of a rolling type of geometry underfoot.

    Dear friends, how do you feel the 8 mm drop of the SLab? I usualy use and prefer 4 to 6 mm drop, maximum. So, this Slab genesis, do you feel its a real 8 mm drop? Thanks and good runs

    • @RoadTrailRun
      @RoadTrailRun  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It’s 8mm but kind of key with Genesis is broad midfoot keeps it stable.

    • @Kvnwkr7
      @Kvnwkr7 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Even though it’s 8 it feels more like 5/6 to me

    • @MikeP-RTR
      @MikeP-RTR Před měsícem +1

      It doesn't feel like a "steep" 8mm drop to me. The shoe is very well balanced, so that makes the drop less noticeable, i.e. it doesn't feel like you're tilted forward. I agree - it probably rides/feels more like 6ish. For comparison - the Nike Zegama is listed at 4mm drop, but there's so much foam/volume under the heel that it feels like you're more tilted forward than the S/LAB Genesis.

    Do you think one shoe is more stable than the other?

    • @MikeP-RTR
      @MikeP-RTR Před měsícem

      I'd say the S/LAB Genesis is more stable. You get more ground feel, even though cushion is quite good. The regular version just feels a bit softer and less tuned - which is by design. Regular version also has the Ortholite insole which dulls ground feel.

      @@cb4atlI have used my Zoot Del Mars ($40 on Shoebacca) for super rooted, gnarly trails. Nevertheless, I will definitely try the Genesis out at some point to feel the difference if any 😏💰
