The new Salomon Thundercross is an interesting hybrid shoe combining some elements of the Speedcross and Sense Ultra into a big ol' trail running monster. But it still needs some marinating - what are YOUR thoughts?

It makes sense why Nnormal exists when the midsole isn't even good for 100 miles!
Have you reviewed Salomon S/lab Genesis? It was my last 100 mile race capable shoe, and it didn't disappoint.
These are my first pair of trail runners (mainly for hiking)... I love them. They fit my particular feet perfectly, feel soft and springy, will work in muddy western Washington, and were half off. I'm really petite and use trail shoes infrequently enough that the wearing out issue isn't as much of an issue.
I had these on my feet. Felt like i had a snow boot on. Decided to go with the Sense ride 5 instead. Really enjoying them, but definitely know how you feel about lock down. Down hills can really slide around. But supper gripy on everything.
I got a pair sent to me from Salomon for feedback, so i didn't have to pay for them. So far I've run about 50 mi in them. The midsole hasn't shown any signs of wear yet but I am on the lighter side. The fit is also quite good, on my foot they don't bunch up nearly as much nor do I have to crank down the laces to get a secure hold. The MSRP is certainly a bit high but for me it's a very capable nasty weather shoe.
It seems that a better alternative the Saucony Exodus Ultra is a cheaper, more resistant entry-level shoe. I use for essentially every trail run these days: if I ran over 50k, maybe, maybe, I'd choose something different, but it is cheaper (at least here) than anything Salomon offers. And definitely more toe room!
That's true, and the Wildhorse is insanely cheap too.
Yeah, I really enjoy the Xodus Ultra too!
@@TheGingerRunner how does the Xodus lugs/grip compare to the Speedcross?
@@TheGingerRunnerI beat my Ultras up pretty well. 300 miles at least. But did you have any issues with them on wet Rocks? I found them treacherous in CT rainy trails this last summer.
Does it have a soft spongy ortholite insole? It might give some comfort for first 20km and flatten out soon.
Please review the Nimbus 25 TR.
How do you feel it compares to the Sense Ride?
My first thoughts are...looks more cushioned but the upper looks like they might get soggy/ripped.
I'm happy with my sense ride 3 that i have, but I have just been gifted a pair of these and wonder what you think? Thanks!
Glad I got a pair for $80
i like the salomon lacing system but it forces you to yank the tongue up to your ankle in order to access the pocket to stow the laces. can always tuck it under the lower laces, but still how would they expect everyone to wear their shoes like that?
I have had 9 pairs of salomons and never had problems with lace pockets.
you don't need to do that. Just lace it as tight as you want, and let the tongue stay where it wants, don't do anything special. Then, after the shoes are laced and tightened as you want, just pull the tongue pocket using the tag, and it will jus roll under the laces until the opening is out. It's just so simple that it amazes me how people just don't get it
@@ivansalasurrea2349Maybe some people tighten more than you, which makes it harder to pull the lace pocket with the tag from under the laces.
I have a pair and the tag ripped off first day.
Tried in a store... No difference with Speedcross 3 4 (I didn't buy onwards).
I tried these out in the store and wasn’t a fan. 80% of my running shoes have been Salomon, but these just didn’t feel right.
I didn’t love this shoe. I went with the summit unknown v4 for NB and haven’t looked back
Damn, I am bummed by this. I LOVE my speedcross but they are too narrow and I LOVE my sense rides but the lugs aren't as secure as the Speedcross' so I was hoping this would be the perfect trail running shoe, but judging by how the upper looks on your feet and the fact that they are bottoming out at such a low mileage (when my speedcross generally last me well into the 800 kms...) this is disappointing
I was super bummed as I had high hopes too!
The thundercross doesn't drain very well because of too many overlays!!!
I can't remember the last time Salomon made a good trail shoe....
Salomon S/Lab Ultra (2017).
S/lab pulsar 2 sg , 2023
@ great shoes, but the midsole died after 200 km.
@@RowOfMushyTiT but they are still softer and bouncier than ultra 3 😃
@ Ye, don't get me started about the Ultra series. Absolutely the worst shoe i ever had. (The V1 Francois version)
Salomon had always been toward the top in terms of fabric/sole choice and durability. This disappoints me.
And the price in the US considerably better than UK - it is £140GBP over here - which translates to about $170USD - youch!!!
Ooof, that’s pricey for this thing!
@@TheGingerRunner yeah! UK can usually see the same GBP/USD number, just like this. Equiv to 20% uplift over you guys across the board. Just checked Cascadia and it's £135 v $140
I wish Salomon would just ditch the lacing system. It's just way too hard to get a good lockdown without either being too loose or cutting all circulation off at the top in my experience. For now, I am sticking with my Norda 001
You can just cut it off and use regular laces, I did this to my Trail pro 2's.
The only shoe from Salomon with *cross in the name that works is Speedcross. All other *crosses are meh at best.
S/lab cross 👌
@I have 2 pair. Love them on soft, wet, muddy or snow.
@@sachakopa7964 I don't think that they are very goos in snow. But on mossy hills they are very nice imho.
@ I agree. Only on some snow types.
Like hard packed snow but not icy hard snow and not deep soft snow. But I like them on mix of soft ground/mud and snow.
I’ve run with them on snow covered roads after a big snow storm after the cars have packed the snow down before the city has come to clean the roads.
Yeah on mossy hills is 👌🏼 or in the autumn with the leaves on the forest trail after a bit of rain.
@@sachakopa7964 I equipped one pair with mountain bike steel studs. Now they work fine on hard ice and slimy wet rock also😃
The fact that you can't figure out how to use speedlaces after all these years ... can't even watch the rest of this. That's basics. My 9 yr old nephew can figure this out.
But yeah, these are their cheap cheap. Look at the Genesis.
am I first???
I think you are!
Wow, disappointing. This is a long way from the joy of the Sense Pro 2 and the original Sense Ride
That's a pass.
This review should be about a minute long. Once you said the midsole lasts 60 miles….f this shoe. And that stupid ass lacing system.
You don't know how to make a bad video
