Salomon Pulsar Trail Pro 2 Review // Zero Ankle Issues!

- The Salomon Pulsar Trail Pro 2 is a polarizing shoe. It's either the best thing since slide bread or the achilles heel to your trail running (see what I did there). For me, after 85 miles, the Pulsar Trail Pro 2 has become the bee's knees to my trail running training and racing. The Energy Foam midsole feels soft yet responsive, Energy Blade TPU place adds stability and propulsion, the Quicklace system and quality knit upper secure your foot comfortably, and the Contragrip outsole is confidence inspiring and trustworthy. All in all, the Salomon Pulsar Trail Pro 2 is a well made shoe with all the right elements that make it a fun, fast, universal, and nearly perfect trail running shoe... well, perfect for me but not for others. Just watched the Ginger Runner’s review, and your review. Glad I saw both! Purchased a pair last week (on sale under $75) without watching any review, and did my first trail run. No issues with the ankle or blisters due to the “sock cup”, but I wear socks above the ankles. Also, no hot spots, but it was only 5mi on a rolling and moderate trail. I’ll take a look again after 50-60mi. After watching your video, now I know what to do with the lace “pocket”. Thanks for the wonderful insight, and I can’t wait to use them on my next trail run (9-12mi this weekend).

Great review as always, your content provides valuable insights on shoes and training. Any thoughts on how this shoe compares to the Salomon Genesis? I’m hearing great things about the Salomon Genesis in regards to a bit more room in the toe box in comparison to other Salomon shoes. Not to mention I believe Courtney D. Used it for WS and now Hard Rock, with the understanding she could run in Crocs and leave me in the dust…haha have a great week everyone 🤙🏽

Thank you my friend! I haven't ran in the Genesis but I get the impression that the Trail Pro 2 is more performance oriented while the Genesis is more well rounded. Oh, and I'm sure that Courtney running in Crocs would outrun me too! 😆
Just bought Pulsar Trail Pro for 56USD (which is almost the same as 2). Hope it will be good race shoe up to half marathon :) Thanks for the review!

I have run about 840km in Pulsar trail pro version 1 and my biggest icks are lack of ground feel and wide and rigid midsole making the shoe not that great on technical or slanted terrain. Other than that I have been very pleased with Pulsar pro's comfort and performance!
Toebox has more room for straight big toe than most salomons but not that much for bunions, which is very nice for my feet.
Grip is mid tir imho.
They usually go for a bit over 100€ in Europe, which is pretty good value.
Thinking of getting a new pair for winter road running.
Hi Chad, great video (and the scenery - just wow!). I have the Salomon Ultra 3 and while I love the sock-like upper I find the ride a bit firm and also doesnt have much rocker/propulsion for when I want to speed up, which is a shame. How do these compare? Or, should I go for something like the Terrex Speed Ultra or Saucony Peregrine 13? Thanks, Greg.
I don't know how they compare to the Ultra 3, but I did feel that they had a fairly soft midsole and good propulsion. Funny you should mention but one of my favorite trail shoes has been the TERREX Speed Ultra. The speed ultra has a much more nimble and fast feel, but doesn't have the rocker or plated propulsion that the Salomon Pulsar Trail Pro 2 has. For context, I ran my Devil on the Divide 50k (video on the channel) this last summer in the Salomon's. I wanted something with a little more cushioning but by the end of the race, I wish I was wearing the Speed Ultras because they seem to be a little more comfortable for my feet despite the extra ground feel and nimbleness of the shoe. The outsole of the Pulsar Trail Pro 2 will probably last a little longer than the speed ultras. Anyways, that's a lot of random thoughts and experiences shared, so let me know if you have any more specific questions.

I've just watched your review of the Terrex Speed Ultra and also the New Balance Summit Unknown v4 and thinking that the NB might be what I'm after. Something with a close and nimble feel yet also a bit of cushioning. Hmm, decisions! (The Ultra 3 is still a great shoe but just want something to rotate it with maybe)
Great content! Found your review of Puma Voyage Nitro 2 and now that I'm getting into trail running (got hooked on road running a month ago) I appreciate the review of all of these different trail shoes. SL: HSV at $375 is out of 95+% of runner's budgets. Have you had a chance to run in Nnormal Kjerag? I think it is a good step up from shoes around the $160 mark!

@SeeChadRun Didn't even realize none of the SLs are available in most sizes but they do have another drop soon. Any other boutique brand trail shoes out there?
Dynafit, more known for their ski gear and apparel is getting heavily involved in trail running and they have trail shoes now... I reached out to them but haven't heard back yet. Hoping to review their products soon.
First time I've seen those. Norda is another one I forgot, the 002 looks insane.
Some guys from a local trail running store ran into some Nnormal reps during a trail race and they were allowed to try the shoes. Not sure how likely they would be to send a pair for review but if you ever run out of shoes might be worth paying out of pocket for!
@@tonyureno6816 The new Puma Voyager 3 and Fast-Trac Apex look awesome too. I should be able to review those shoes. Just not sure when.
Nice thorough, thoughtful review. The big concerns I’ve had with this shoe were the Achilles issue and the upper comfort. Thanks for addressing both.
Are you able to comment on how it would compare to either the Ultra Glide or the Speedgoat 5?
I’m also hoping you can do a kit prep for your next race including how you decide which shoe you’ll choose. I’ve waffled like crazy on shoe selection for my last 2 races. 🤷🏻♂️
Love the feedback! I haven't ran in the Ultra Glide or Speedgoat so unfortunately I can't compare those (yet). Hopefully Hoka will send me a pair of the Speedgoat 6 whenever those come out.
As for kit for my up-and-coming race, I do plan to do a members only video walking through that including shoe choice.

Great review, Chad! I’ve put about 40 miles on my Pulsar Trail Pro 2’s and need to get out on some more trails with them. That midsole support is just a little more firm than what I’ve been running in with my Brooks Cascadia 16’s. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these throughout a long run should you decide to use them on the 100k race. I’ve got a 50-mile rails to trails race and need to decide between these and my Brooks.
@@rundavidrun76 I seriously debated using these for my up and coming 100k race. I'm not sure how they compared to the Brooks, but I do think for a trail shoe, these Salomon's have a fairly soft midsole that is also responsive. All that said, I'm still leaning towards using my adidas TERREX Speed Ultra's for my 100k race. I feel like the upper is just a little more comfortable and I really like the ground feel even though they don't have as much underfoot cushioning.
