    I've been hiking in some dynafit ultra 100's. They're stiff like an approach shoe in my opinion and a fantastic crossover shoe. I also picked up some Scarpa Ribelle Run XT's last week on black Friday discount. Can't wait to try those for mixed run/hike.

    Thanks for the review. You did a really good job. Most of the reviews on these shoes are by trail runners. It was great to get a hikers perspective. I've got Brooks and Hoka and they are both great shoes. I would like to try a pair of Altra. Thanks again and I wish you all the very best.

    Thanks much for this very in-depth shoe review. I have been considering the Hoka Speedgoats for quite a while. I've been using Saucony Perregrines the last several years and they have been fantastic. However, all that cush on the Hokas made me wonder if I might like them for the TMB. I have settled on getting another pair of Sauconys, However, you have piqued my curiosity about the Brooks and will give them a try in the future.
    Thanks again, really appreciate your channel!

    Thank you so much for putting in the hard work for this video. So thankful that the loan peaks come in huge size 16 for my giant feet. I don't know if those other brands come in my size... I'm thinking of buying like 5 pairs of the loan peak 7s and putting them in a time chamber just in case they discontinue the big size. I have badly warped feet due to birth defects, and the loan peaks are the first time I've had a comfortable shoe. 😫

    I have the Cascadia version 16 GTX Gore -tex ($160)and they are superb winter trail runners. The traction is like knobby tires on a truck. Ice snow rain streams puddles, Nothing can stop you! I also hike mountains in them. I would not run road races in them. I would not run cross country races either , They are bulky built like tank all terrain shoes. Built for protection and traction …NOT Built for Speed! I own 2 pairs and use them alot for my off road adventures. One of my favs

    I like Merrell Moab 3 non-waterproof, hiking shoes with Dr Scholl's Heavy Duty Work insoles, instead of the Merrell insoles they come with. They fit true to size, need no break-in and they're light and very comfortable. They also dry out faster than waterproof footwear, that always gets wet anyway.

    Nice video! I have both the brooks and altra shoes. What I wonder is how do they fit you? I normally have eur 44.5 cityshoes, but with the altra I find them a bit too big on a foot at size 45 ( halve size up recomended by altra). With the Brooks, the size 45 EUR already feel a bit better and less loose. although I still have one shoe smaller than the other. Maybe I should do double socks on. :)

    • @Dusty_Hikers
      @Dusty_Hikers  Před rokem +1

      Great question. I bought mine through my Amazon account and apparently it auto suggested my sizes based on previous purchases and what similar buyers purchased. So for the Brooks I bought US 12.5 or EU 46.5 and for the Altra I bought 11.5 US or 46 EU. They both worked fine but I think a size 12 US in the Altr would have been better. I had no issues though on the multi day hike.

    Do you have any experience with the Altra Timp 5? It's zero drop - wide toe box but with more cushioning. Should be somewhat of a mix between the lone peaks and the Hokas

  • @epischewurststullederverda1483

    I am currently looking for a trail running shoe for ultra distance (50+ km) hiking. Since I got knee and hip issues (arthrosis) I want a highly cushioned shoe that provides protection until I can build more muscles to support my joints.
    I tried the Salomon ultra glide 2 and I liked how it felt. The space in the toe area was good, but the mid foot part was too narrow. I already went for 1 size bigger to account for swelling feet on long distances.
    Does anyone know a model with similar features like the ultra glide 2, but is a bit wider around the mid foot area?

    Hi mate, great review, I'm not a trail runner or anything but I'm going backpacking in South East Asia next month, im wondering which shoe would be the best for me as the main requirements for me are comfort walking a lot all day around both cities or lighter hikes around volcanoes or mountains. I need something very breathable because of the heat.
    Most people recommend trail runners for backpackers and i understand why, im just wondering which you think would suit my needs best?

    • @Dusty_Hikers
      @Dusty_Hikers  Před 11 měsíci

      @@Dusty_Hikers Thanks for the recommendation, when I went to the local running shop with that in mind I tried on a cascadia 16, it felt weirdly tight on the top of my foot around the lace area, I didn't really like the fit, though it did seem a good shoe.
      I tried on the lone peak which was nice but quite wide for my feet, and ultimately I went with Hoka challenger 6s, very cushioned which will be good for walking all day, breathable with a lot of mesh and they seem to have decent enough grip for basic level hikes and trails that are more my speed :) Thanks for a very in depth review! at the end of the day nothing beats going to the shop to test them out yourself!

    • @Dusty_Hikers
      @Dusty_Hikers  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@Joe-hl2ts YES! Wearing them in a shop is better than ordering them finding out they don't fit then sending them back. It is also more sustainable. On my Amazon affiliate account I see people buying two pairs of the exact same shoe but one is a size 11 for example and the other is 10.5. The buyer already knows they are going to send a pair back. They amount of fuel used to ship these shoes back and forth is signficant.

    Excuse me sir, does the altra lone peak 7 or olympus 5 is good for hike Mt.Fuji(sharp rock and sandy terrain) or should I buy traditional hiking shoes like moab 3 or salomon ultra 4 for more protection and durability considerations?

    • @Dusty_Hikers
      @Dusty_Hikers  Před rokem

      Hello! So for protection underfoot you will be fine with any of those listed, even on sharper rocks. For durability, I cannot say since I have only hiked about 40-50 miles in the shoes you list (except Olympus 5). For your choice, I would say that if you have never worn Altra Lone Peak 7 and you don't have much time before your hike then I would not advise you to get those. I feel like they take a little more to get used to if you are not already accustomed to minimalist, zero-drop (flat sole) hiking footwear. This all really boils down to you and what you feel most comfortable with. The Salomon X Ultra 4 won my place for best hiking shoes of the year. If they fit your foot you won't be disappointed. Also just tested three great trail runners and the Brooks Cascadia 16 took the top spot. I love hiking in them. They have a rock plate, great midsole, and grippy outsole.
