Moab 3 is better or this ?

Barents Pro in winter, Vidda Pro ventilated spring/autumn. Abisko Hike in Summer. That will get you through the elements for years and years!

As a forester for the US forest service, I carry around a hatchet to pound in timber cruiser steaks and to cut branches of the tree when we spray numbers on the tree. So these are really designed for foresters.

I bought a pair of hookers and I absolutely hate them. Because they throw me off balance. I actually tripped and fell early on and just stopped wearing them. There's just too much shoe on the bottom and the sides. It makes them very awkward

I have wide feet and the MOAB’s are perfect for me. They feel great on trail.

Love Brooke’s as a system (as they like to market, but their toe box is a joke. Give Brooke’s a altra toe box and I’d agree. Even their wife isn’t foot shaped and that makes all the difference

i hated this shoe, the sole is too wide and didn’t like the 90 degree sole edge…

Did you try the Olympus from Altra?

He's not wrong about the shoe being multi-use. I started wearing a version of them in the 90s (from merrell) and went with the moabs not long after they came out and still wear them. More comfortable than any others I have worn. The only thing that has changed as I get older is I usually replaced the insole after a few months in a thicker one, as the one they have eventually compresses. Great shoe. Damn.. I just remembered how long ago the 90's is and how many pairs I must have bought over the years.... Also, as someone else mentioned, they come in wide, so they actually fit my foot at the right size, instead of having to buy a longer shoe with the arch in the wrong spot.

Not as comfortable out of the box as the Karrimors I used before it, but, they might need some breaking in. Let's see.

Ausangate is such an incredible trek. The views up there are so unique and even cartoon like. I did it in November so it wasn't as cold but there was more rain and significant thunderstorms and night and evenings. The fact that there aren't more hikers out there is surprising but such a blessing compared to other parts of Peru. Choquequirao is another that similar to Ausangate does not get enough credit.

I bought the Brooks Cascadia shoes this weekend I took them out for a little 6 mile walk yesterday and they were so amazing and incredible I’m super happy🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Headed to a winter hiking situation in December. Most days will be non-technical, but slick and icy with light to moderate snow. Would love to hear your recommendation for a footwear set up that will offer both warmth and dry feet. Thank you!

I use to have those and accidentally bought the water proof model. Do not recommend for summer use! But they definitely kept my feet warm in the winter.

MOABs from the sale rack... Never worn, perfect size... Wore them as "everyday" shoes, never did any "serious" hikes in them. 5 month later the sole started to pull away from the materials at the toe, won't get moabs again. I've had the Chameleons before and I think they wear better, and they certainly fit better. Did the Adidas hikers too, they literally fell apart in 4 months of routine (non-trail) use. So while I'm still looking for a decent summer shoe. I'll stick with my Asolo Fugitive GTXs.. They're heavy but I've had em for 7 years and they still look and wear like they're brand new.

Merrell is great. Not just that model.

✨ The Ultimate Dad shoe appears ✨ It truly is the best all around for the price. I’ve had 3 pairs of the Moab 2 and currently have 2 pairs of the Moab 3’s. Recommend the wide and the updated grip is really tough and great for hikes and martial arts training.

My initial impressions of these shoes are very good. Durability with Salomon shoes has always been a challenge no matter what shoe it is. Their hiking boots are the only Salomon footwear I have had that have lasted a long time. The X Ultra 4 are very light weight and they incorporate many of the positive attributes of the XA Pro however they work better for narrow feet! I have a narrow foot and heel retention is always a major challenge for me. So far... the heel retention a very good with the X Ultra 4, even with a superfeet hike cushion insole. The forefoot has plenty room and the mid sole and instep are snug but comfortable. The lacing system works just like any other shoe with Salomon's quicklace platform. Hoping to do some more lengthy backpacking trips with them to really see how well my heels hold up but initially these shoes seem promising.

Comfort is subjective. I just returned a pair of Merrell Moab Speeds because I find them too cushy. I don't feel they support the bones in my feet and so they strain my feet. Couldn't walk on them all day.

Go wide toe box, Hykes Trek is the shoe.

I walked the Camino in mine. I walk 3-5 miles in Tucson desert conditions everday. Only on the Scottish West Highland Way, which is super rocky, did they come apart. Great shoes.

i used to buy that merrell but in 2024 they made a total not breathable sh!t (gtx version). no more! it became uncomfortable, not breathable!

Is this the same continental rubber found on the current adidas Agravic trail runners? their rubber felt grippier on the floor than megagrip, and Asicsgrip.

How does the toe box compare to the Altra or Topo.

Have a pair that3years old. Rock solid. Love the fit so much I made sure I had an extra pair in the box.

Best walking shoe available. I used to wear the Salomon GTX, then they “updated” it to the #4 and ruined what had been an outstanding shoe. Now, it is the Merrill Moab all day, everyday!

I'm not spending $200 for a Hoka, Altra, etc that last maybe 1000KM. Xero Shoes are where it's at ; zero drop, flexible (like your foot is), light weight and will last 1000s of KM. Don't put your foot in a cast, that's the reason your foot is weak and gets injured. Start and transition slowly and your feet will get stronger.

Love my MOAB’s… wore them a lot on my OPS in Africa and walking around on a day to day.

I had a several different models of Merrells but stopped buying them because of bad quality. The sole it’s sooooo bad !

The laces will not stay tied. I dilute wood glue and saturate the last few inches of mine which gives them some body.

Overrated, I had them for a couple of years. Also the mold is not for every foot, I switched to Salomon as it's better fit for me.

I’d like to cover a few things here. The park is less than ideal for migration. For one the canyon basin is about 300ft tall in most places and in order to safely cross you’d have to BASE jump to get here. Two it is boarded by the chihuahua desert, one of the most mountainous and deserted places in all of the northern hemisphere. People dont migrate here (especially in the summer ) because your chances of survival are very slim. And even if you made it theres no where to go for a hundred miles. Most I’ll fated cases here are from hikers trying to vacation here in the summer. It’s the dessert. If you’re not prepared for the crazy heat then don’t go. It’s hot. Very hot. There is no shade. There is no water. The park is understaffed during the summer months, so that means there is no help. Plan you hike and hike your plan. And you’ll be fine. Thanks ✌️
