The On Running Cloudboom Echo 3 is On's new "supershoe" designed to compete with the likes of the Vaporfly, Adizero/Litghtstrike, Meta Sky, etc. This shoe is fast and snappy, but it's not quite on par with the other heavyweights and at a CRAZY high cost for what you get. What do YOU think?

Swiss brand, On Running, has unveiled their new hyped “super” shoe the Cloudboom Echo 3. It’s not quite what I’d hoped for. What are your thoughts?
*And Yes, I know I say “Swedish” in the review - slip of the tongue. I was tired and apologize to all my Swedish friends for blaming you for these 😂
Ah the good old Sweden and Switzerland mix-up. Get me thinking of when The New York Stock Exchange hanged up a Swiss flag at the Spotify IPO. 🤣
Always great review. Thank you.
Appreciate the breakdown of this shoe and your take on it.
Great review !
Glad you said this! I fear this is a hyped shoe and you confirmed my suspicions. Loving the surfer like you but I’m gonna swerve these as I think I’ll just get upset 😂
First "why" I've ever heard from your reviews, and I trust this decision. As Edd Bud would say, "it's going to be a nay for me ".
Thanks for the honest review. Sounds like Metaspeed SKY for me: extremely fast but unforgiving
Love the Miami Dolphin colored Injinji's though!
Man…I try to defend ON as much as I can, because I feel like they’re the popular brand to hate on online…but shoes and price points like this make it reaaaaal hard.
ON shoes are all “oooh” and no “aahhh”, certainly true for their trail shoes at a minimum…not great running shoes, but an awesome review nonetheless - would love to see a Speedland review, as well as your thoughts on the Salomon Ultra Glide 2….love the channel!
Really like the looks for a super shoe. But at $290 it’s a hard pass
Same
Looking forward to hearing your Kinvara Pro thoughts. Would love a stable race day shoe!
Yeah, so far so good on that one!
@@TheGingerRunner I’m hoping it’s a softer, carbon plated Endorphin Shift
I have also seen a couple of reviews where the heel rubber is coming away after a few runs
Holy🦀 Whats going on in Trail , Mountain running 💸💸💸
No go!
I was interested in this initially because I had the Cloudboom Echo for a while and I thought it was alright. But since then, I've since been running in Vaporfly 2 & 3, Adios Pro 3, Prime X Strung, Takumi Sen 8, and Endorphin Pro 3 for speed work and races so the bar had been raised - a lot. This just seems like catchup work on On's part and the price is ridiculous. I like the new Cloudsurfer as well for easy runs but a hard pass on this one.
The Asics Magic Speed 3 sounds like a better proposition.
My girlfriend has been using this shoe for quite some time by now. She's a slightly more than average runner. Usually going for podium on road races. Usually looking for scenic trails for her long training runs. It took her some time to get used to this shoe but by now she really likes how it feels and works on technical trails. Think nimble and fast. Unfortunately the outsole of this shoe is probably the worst when it comes to longevity. With about 200k in almost all lugs were worn completely down. With a small and light build usually it's a shoes upper that breaks before she wears out the sole or cushioning. With the Echo3 it's the other way around. Upper still in perfect conditions but the sole is almost completely gone.
Compared to my Nnormal Kjerag even after 500k of all kinds of terrain the sole and lugs are nearly as good as new. And I usually manage to work myself through a sole quite fast.
If ON Running would upgrade the Cloudboom Echo with a Vibram sole, too, that might rectify that heavy price tag. Otherwise I think it's not worth it for the mileage you might get out of this shoe.
I agree..Like your girlfriend I think it is a solid contender but they have to do 1 of 2 things. Either bring the price down to at least $200.00 or keep the price were it is but revamp the shoe and make it durable for at least 400k miles. It's not going to go over well with most consumers being that it has a healthy price tag and only good for 4 marathon uses "(like it says on the box it comes in).
When you said Swedish engineering while holding a Swiss flag 😅
ON has always been way too narrow for me. At that this price, I will have to agree wholeheartedly, with your “why”.
ON will out price themselves! Price is the major factor here.
7:04 Swedish engineering 😂 The On rep cringed at that one haha
This is why I love your channel! I’m not a featherweight runner, and paying nearly $300 for a shoe that isn’t comfortable would make cry. I’ll stick with my Hokas, it’s a no from me!
What happened to Ginger Runner Live? I was hoping to see you interview some Western Finishers. Your interview style is much more comfortable and inviting than some of your ultra running media counterparts.
I appreciate the compliment! Just taking a break for the time being to focus on some other bigger projects. It'll return, I'm sure!
This shoe will go on discount eventually if it’s not selling well than expected…
Would your opinion be different if it was a $180 shoe?
Possibly. But I'd still snag The Artist, VF, MetaSky or Endorphin Pro over these.
Surprised you even released this review. Hahah. A nice change to hear you not exactly like a shoe at all.
Cloudsurfer 7 are spot on, awesome shoes, 10/10. However, the other On shoes are mediocre at best.
I’m generally a big fan of On and I liked the predecessor to these. That being said I’d need the price to come down before I’d consider these.
I also heard on a podcast that the box says “Good for four marathons”. Is that the case? I think sustainable in super shoes is becoming an issue the more prevalent they are
I've had 2 pairs of On shoes. I bought the second pair shortly after the first, mostly because of the hype from On. I hoped to rotate running between both shoes. They quickly turned into work shoes until they died. I will never buy another pair. I always feel there are much better options for the same price point. On is a hard pass for me.
Odd, my Cloudstratus still hold up after 1000km and I have some old model that has at least 1500kms and still works nicely as a spare time shoe. I'm actually very satisfied with On shoes for their durability compared to other brands. But probably depends on your feet and running style. My Cloodboom I exclusively use for competitions, so not sure how long it will last, only has
oof.. first review out there not confirming with the hype. Not that it matters much. As good as reviews go, I won't spend that amount of money on a shoe anyway 😂.
I just don't think ANY shoe worth that much. There will always be similar (if not better) alternatives.
I feel like this brand is really more of a fitness fashion brand like gym shark or something.
7:04 Swiss, not Swedish 😂
A fun watch worth $290.
I’d take 3 pairs of The Artist (r.i.p) for the same price and be plenty content
YES exactly!
@@TheGingerRunner I remember you had the idea in the Base Trail review about comparing the (at the time) PDX and Base Trail. Would be interesting to see a comparison of The Artist or the new version with some of these real high priced carbon shoes
On is not known for its Swedish but its Swiss engineering. It is a Swiss brand, as in from Switzerland. Sweden and Switzerland are two different countries.
Great review by the way.
Lol “Swedish” 😂
Looks like we’ve reached peak super shoe 🙄 Next year will we see the first $300+ shoe?? Bound to happen. I liked the On Cloudmonster for exactly two runs. After that? They’re my overpriced walking around shoes. For the price, they’re the least durable shoes I’ve worn. Treads were showing signs of wear after 10-20 miles. I won’t even bother with the Cloudboom.
I mean the Speedlands are already over $300 - just terrible!
Hard Pass
Got it for 230 USD
Still not worth it 😬
I would gladly accept your pair if you don’t want it 😂
$290.. ouch. Just oo much.
I knew it wouldn't be a good shoe. On should stick to the retiree market.
My parents would agree :)
Hard pass, I feel like ON is overrated
"Swedish" @7:04
Sigh
*see above, le tired
Swiss or Swedish?😂
« Sweedish »🙈
*Swiss. I was sleepy.
