Sawtooth 5-1-2-4 for the ADK 100 Highest
Sawtooth Mountains 5-1-2-4 for Adirondacks 100 Highest #76/77/78/79!
On July 4th @snjhikeallday and I completed one of the hardest bushwhack hikes I’ve ever even fathomed! Doing all four of these together is not typical. There are five sawtooth and usually broken up to about three days worth of hiking. Jeff and I pulled off an incredible traverse bushwhacking for nearly 9 1/2 miles of some of the Adirondacks most thick and rugged terrain! It was a true test of grit and skills, etc. It was an absolutely wild experience and I am so glad to have had my buddy alongside me for it. Wouldn’t have it any other way. This was very hard to complete because of the intense bushwhacking and 75° summit temperatures. there was water fill up opportunities before, and after each mountain in every cole. I can’t guarantee this range will always have water, but we experienced water between and after every mountain! Because there are no trails to these mountains, everyone’s bushwhack lines will be different. Therefore, some of the things that I’ve experienced, you might never experienced. To be honest, most people will never experience this range because of how remote and difficult it is, and there really isn’t any reason to do these mountains unless you’re working on the Adirondack hundred Highest, which is a very small window of people who wants to climb mountains with no trails! This day was 20 miles and 5500 feet of elevation gain!

Starting at Cascade Falls you climb up the drainage all the way to the summit of Cascade Mountain In the Adirondacks of New York. You start by climbing in the woods on the left-hand side of the waterfalls and then once you’re at the top, you cut right into the drainage and follow that all the way up to the final head wall, which you can choose to go up or around the right in the woods. And then...

Slide Mountain is the tallest Mountain in the Catskills standing at around 4200 feet. It has a very steep and technical ascent if you bushwhack it via a drainage on its North Face. There is no trails to get here and should not be done unless you are a good climber and well versed in Navigation and the terrain. It is extremely steep and potentially dangerous ascent. Nippletop Slide.. The first time I ever saw this was from the summit of Mount Colvin and I thought to myself, oh my gosh that slide looks absolutely gnarly. How would you guys say this compares to the tripyramid north slide?
That’s a really good question. They’re completely different experiences. If you’re trying to climb up all the steep parts of the slabs on North slide I would say it could be equally as dangerous. You have a lot of opportunity to not climb anything dangerous by skirting around stuff on north slide so therefore north slide as much safer but if you try to climb up all the steepest way possible I honestly think I’d be a nerve wrenching hard to say, though man. They’re both amazing in their own way. North slide is probably my favorite trail in the whole New Hampshire high peaks.
@@BrianHikesAllDay Sweet can't wait to do it then :)
@@48forks you do know that I have a north slide video on my channel right?
Sorry to hear about your ass.
Did I hear a 50 mile day hike? Dizamn!
The "Richard Simmons" of hiking. Flamboyant, to say the least.
Dooode, this is sick. Omigod!
Any chance you could share an all trails link for this loop?
If you follow me on AllTrails or strava you can save my map
This is a map I drew on the desktop for myself. This isn’t something you could just find on AllTrails. So you would have to follow my recording.
I just climbed this solo a couple days ago, epic. Trail. Loved your footage though! I had the GoPro mounted on my helmet because I didn’t wanna take any chances. I love how your footage really shows perspective a bit more. Your enthusiasm is also fun!! Thanks for the video! I posted my video if you wanna check it out feel free :) It’s also 30 min long lol.
I’ll check it out! Send me a link on Instagram, do you have instagram?
Humidity, bugs, flys, thick brush gotta love it. Woo hoooooo
You got that right!
Lmaoo HELL YEAH!!!
What are you laughing at!!!! Please share!
Hey man. Great video as always. You in the Adirondaks? I'm out here for a week. Would love to meet you at some point. You have inspired me so much to be a better hiker
I was on a two week vacation. I hiked every day for two weeks. I’m back home in Pennsylvania now. For the foreseeable future it will just be Saturdays
@@BrianHikesAllDay Ok cool. Hope you had a awesome vacation. Im on vacation now. I will be back in daks in a few weeks. Maybe we could meet up. I know your busy. Love the vids
@@matthewburd3274 On my two week vacation I didn’t take a single video. I do, however, make daily Instagram stories of my hikes. This was an Instagram story that honestly it was just so epic. I had to share it with my CZcams community. Not a fan of posting cell phone video on CZcams though. I think I might need to start blogging more of my hundred Highest hikes.
This video is exactly why I enjoy this channel. Just pure mountain goat beasts 💪
I appreciate that 😂
That was sick brotha!
My favorite hiking bro is back!!! 😊😊😊
Thanks Brian! 👊🏻👍🏻 God Bless 🙏🏻 Appreciate you my friend ! ⛰️👍🏻
Appreciate you too man!
I was chased off a thick whack of sw twin on the same day by swarms of moose flies. It was hard to believe how big and painfully they were. Rough to turn around 2/3 there, but we lost our minds
They bite sooooo hard. They are also striped and look like bears, but they’re like an inch long fly. My gosh, do those things hurt
@@BrianHikesAllDay yes. Enormous. I thought they were bees. They were biting right through my clothes. Only thing that stopped them was hard shell, which is tough on a hot humid day. You two are beasts dealing with that for 10 hours. I lasted 1 and decided to come back another time
@@BobCorsaro we already mentally decided that we were going to torture ourselves that day regardless. And we smile through every minute of it.
Had to FF at 25 mins. Can't even watch let along get up there. Fair play to you guys.
Please god deliver me from spruce 😂. Loving your content bro. 🤙🏼 keep killing it. Watching as I type.
I’m really hesitant to post any vertical cell phone content on my CZcams channel. I usually only will post anything if it’s recorded on my GoPro. But this hike was so insane. I just had to share it regardless of its format. I may eventually take it off the channel, but wanted to give some of my followers a chance to see the hike.
It’s wild and I appreciate you sharing.
Love your videos. I'm thinking of doing Owl's Head next, so this is super helpful. I always preview trails by watching your videos, and it's been tremendously helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
What type of shoes did you guys wear !? Great vid!
My boys are not having fun right now!!!
BRO
Thanks man, this is first time i have experienced chafing near my groin area as i started doing jogging and long walking, and turns out it is caused by the lining of my underwear, started wearing loose clothing and it worked but still vasline sounds good alternative
oh man...I was hoping for some footage of the piper descent in the dark...not fun
You guys pick up a lot of ticks going through the woods like this?
High peaks regions are too cold in the winter and kills all the ticks off. I have never once got a tick in the last six years of bushwhacking.
Your video popped up in my feed and I loved it! I now hike instead of being an alcoholic and can totally relate to your excitement and exhilaration when you spot the gnarly track up ahead! Also the weather, terrain and flora changing. I became hooked from my first rock scramble; crave it. That trail looks insane! Thank you for filming. Lots of love from Australia.
That is awesome! thank you for watching and thank you for the comment! The mountains have made me the happiest version of myself I could ever be. It’s my playground.
My knees started to hurt just watching that decline.
Salute to you my guy. True life saver 🙌
Is there a link to the map for this? Ideally something interactive with distances and such :)

Appreciate it. Keep it up!
DO NOT SHUT YOUR MOUTH ❤ THAT'S WHY I ❤ YOUR VIDEOS
I enjoy your passion everytime! Keep it up :)
Great video! I've been to Baldface twice, once with a group of friends 8ish years ago and 3 years ago with my wife (she hated it, not a hiker at all), but I'm actually heading up there tomorrow (6/15/24) from Boston to do a solo run. Don't have a lot of friends who like to hike or do outdoorsy things, so a solo trip it is! I do have a recommendation, although this video is 3 years old so maybe you switched up, but I wouldn't suggest using AllTrails for navigating, I would use Gaia, AllTrails is kind of garbage when it comes to location.
Nowadays I plot my routes using Caltop and upload them to my Nice Garmin Fenix 7X
@@BrianHikesAllDay very cool! Great videos by the way, currently watching your Sandwich Dome video!

They are my favorite
Hey love the videos. Just wondering what shoes you have been hiking in? Changing from boots to shoes. Got a pair of Brooks. They are pretty comfortable
Altra Mont Blanc Boa and Also Altra Lone Peaks
It was an awesome experience, looking forward to our next one!
I could watch you do these all day, obviously you can only take so much 😂
Kudos! Awesome content man! These Vlogs are the real deal..im a new dad so I have to live vicariously through your videos for now. Just curious what GPS watch you use? Thanks for these awesome videos!
It is a Garmin Fenix 7X Pro Sapphire Solar
It is $1000 watch, but it is literally one of the best investments I have ever made, especially for bushwhacking. But you can’t just use the watch blindly you have to draw routes on a app and upload it to the Garmin so you have something to follow. That’s the most accurate way. I use Google satellite to zoom in on drainages and mountains to look for terrain and cliffs, etc. And use CalTopo to draw the routes and also use Strava manual mode on a desktop to draw routes.
@@BrianHikesAllDay thanks man!
@@BrianHikesAllDay all great info. I use google satellite and CalTopo to plan out all of my bushwhacks, so right up my alley! A tad pricey but well worth the investment IMO. Thanks again man.
So what I do is I draw a route on CalTopo and send the GPX file to Strava on the desktop. And save it. Everything saved on Strava uploads to courses on my Garmin watch. And when it comes to my watch, I look at it as a safety tool because my gosh has saved my ass on so many hikes and especially in the winter route finding.
Buddy, be careful with your eyes, great video ,you guys are sick
My eyes are everything to me. I wear contacts so even if stuff pokes me in the eye it hits my little protective shield over it. 😂
You are my bushwhacking hero Brian.
😂
Awesome video! Apologies if this question has already been raised, but how do you handle ticks during these bushwhacks? Are they problem?
I have never once ever found a single tick on me on any bush wax in the high peaks regions. I think they all die with the harsh winters.
Thanks Brian! 👊🏻👍🏻 God Bless 🙏🏻 Appreciate you my friend!
You too! And thanks for always commenting! Appreciate you
Hey bri...ever step on a bees nest wacking it?
Nope!
I was thinking about you while I did the the flume slide trail today in nh. Thanks bro for all the awesome tips and footage. ❤❤
🤙
What is the angle on the colden slide?
Since that slide is so large, it varies significantly from one spot to the other. Next time I go out there, I’ll put a protractor on it. This is the first hike I ever brought a protractor to start studying grades.
The steepest part would be right at the very start of the trap Dike slide so if I make it out there, I’ll check that section
@BrianHikesAllDay thank you! I’d be very interested.
Yes please…..keep narrating!! Glad you’re back on CZcams 😊
This channel and effort is really amazing. I'd trade 5 miles of trail over 1 mile of bushwhacking...maybe more.
Thank you for noticing the amount of effort I put in. I go above and beyond for my audience. I don’t think anyone realizes that.
