  • Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Tower via the Dry Brook Ridge Trail is one of the mountains required if you are working on your Catskill 3500 peak bagging list sitting at an elevation of 3723′
History: The first fire tower on the top of a mountain in New York State was placed at the summit of Balsam Lake Mountain in 1887. The existing 47-foot tower was erected in 1919, closed in 1988 and reopened by the Catskill Fire Tower Project and the NYSDEC in 2000.

Tips for people just getting into hiking:
LNT - leave no trace. Meaning if you carry it in then carry it out. If you do see trash on trail, try to carry it out as well to help keep these mountains beautiful and clean.
Do The Rock Hop - The Alpine vegetation is very rare and very fragile so when you’re on the summit of these mountains please only walk on bare rocks to avoid killing the vegetation!

The drive down Beaverkill Road was pretty cool went from a county road to a seasonal road to a dead-end road nice though

Really enjoy the style of this video! Super relaxed and chill... which seems to pair perfectly with the mountain itself. Those views from the fire tower are spectacular.

Thanks so much, not gonna be something I’m probably gonna continue doing in the future. But it was fun for the Shorties. Analytics say it’s a total wasted time to blog these little ones

I did this hike in early December from the Beaverkill Road trailhead. Loved it! Nice video!

What did you think of this new Vlog style with me just staging the camera. On the last clip on the fire tower I talk and I asked people to let me know what they think but it may have been hard to hear with some of the wind

That was only for the shorties to show some of my favorite Catskills small mountains. It won’t be a typical Vlog style and most of them will be back to the way they’ve always been. It’s too much time effort and energy to do this for most of them.

I literally climbed at this mountain twice with all the out and backs. I love the steel camera because all the footage is crystal clear. I don’t like the bouncy choppiness of walking and filming but yeah this takes too much work. Especially when I’m trying to put an ultra weekends it’s taking me twice as long to hike the same mountain

No way this is in NY !!!!!!
