  • The Bennies Brook Slide, sometimes called Bennies Root Canal, was cleaned out and
made much more accessible by Hurricane Irene, back in August 2011. It now runs from
the Southside Trail, along John's Brook, almost all the way to the Great Range Trail.
A herd path on the left, near the top of the slide takes you to the regular Great Range Trail on the east side of Lower Wolfjaw a few minutes from the summit!
In this vlog Jeff and I tried to climb higher than is recommended. After doing it I would tend to agree that the mossy vegetation is extremely slippery and you should not try to climb as high as we did. But it was the highlight of our climb and it made us smile ear to ear! Being an adrenaline junkie this really got my heart going!
My blog is not to inspire you to climb higher but to show you the trails or the climb so that you know what to expect!

Tips for people just getting into hiking:
Don’t do this hike if you are a beginner! Seriously
LNT - leave no trace. Meaning if you carry it in then carry it out and if you do see trash on trail try to carry it out as well to help keep these mountains beautiful and clean.
Do The Rock Hop - The Alpine vegetation is very rare and very fragile so when you’re on the summit of these mountains please only walk on bare rocks to avoid killing the vegetation

What an incredible trail. It’s just carved straight out of the side of the mountain, hundreds of feet across.

I have been watching most of your hikes and slide-climbs. I've been wondering if you have given any thought to the actual cost of bringing along a light rock-helmet and even wearing it when things get dicey ? I know I'm going to be bringing my rock-helmet to say Grace slide and Nippletop slide if I get to those. My rock helmet is very light and probably worst aspect would be hanging it behind pack and it snagging during bush-wacks.

Funny that you mention it, yeah I’m actually going to start probably bringing a helmet with me for next season.

I know Tony purchased a helmet and I have a nice little carbon fiber one I use for skydiving so I’m probably gonna wear my skydiving helmet lol

Oh man, I can't wait to climb this! I will definitely be trying to climb that vertical section starting around 21:40 as it looks quite tough.

The problem is it’s covered with slippery wet moss and there’s nothing to really grab onto. I definitely saw the possibility of another way up but it was definitely too risky and not worth it. But let me know how it goes I definitely want to hear about it.

New backpack attachment money maker: sling that hangs help carry the big balls.

We took the non abandoned trail in with the intention of crossing the river and taking the abandoned trail back... we hit the river at 9pm and then realized it was too high to cross and there were no rock hops... so we had to back track 3.5 miles to come back the normal way... and then another 3.5 to the garden. We got back at like 1 or 2.... sucked lol

Did you see how flipping Steep that was when I turned the camera to the side walking off that slide. When he’s looking down at me it doesn’t even look like it’s a big deal and then you realize I’m climbing a freaking wall

@@BrianHikesAllDay That was f'n STEEP! I took a slip and slide down Blood Mountain in Georgia last year - missed the blaze and had that "This can't be right" feeling. As soon as I made the decision to go back to the last blaze, my feet went out from under me. I went down about 30 feet on my pack/ass in a second. I lay there wondering what the f just happened and then I realized the sound I heard was my water and poles still going. Probably another 50 feet. While that doesn't sound like much, on STEEP bald, wet granite, it's a long f'n way! I got 'em...and lived to tell the tale.Going to watch more of your Terrifying 25 today! Can't wait to be further inspired!
