NA Miata Hyperflash Flasher/Turn Signal Fix - Soldering Tutorial - Resistors and Caps
This week/month/year I'm fixing a small issue with my turn signal module. Over time these can age and not work as well as they did new. You may also experience issues if you are using LED bulbs. In this video I'll walk you step by step how to fix this. You will need:
- soldering iron
- solder
- solder wick
- flux (optional)
- these three capacitors (one of each):

The Miata was smoking and I was pretty sure the rings were good, so I bit the bullet and put new valve stem seals in. In this video I use the rope trick to swap the seals without pulling the head. do you have a schematic, or diagram? I could not find one to save my life! So I started the repair, and I tested the first cap, the 22uf, and it was fine, low ESR of 1.5 ohms. Figured that was good and so I tested the resister, which was 5555ohms, and the bands were green/green/red/gold. So I cleaned the relays and used some deoxit, put it back in the car, nearly didn't make it back out, but still the same fast busy on the left. I have a bunch of caps and stuff ordered because I am going to fix the eff'n seat belt error message, now that I have the proper fuse. Bought 2, just in case. Have you ever repaired the air bag module? thanks for the info and the humor, much needed these days.. :) ps... this is my wifes account, forgot mine..

I normally use the wiring diagrams here: neomiata.com/garage/index.php?path=Wiring+Diagrams/ They won't include the internals of the flasher module though. If memory serves, I ripped the instructions for this vid from another person on YT, but tweaked it for the parts I had on hand. The garage section on miata.net is also a great resource: miata.net/garage/

I just got finished testing the turn signal bulbs (on the right side) and they tested ok with my ohm meter. So, being the thorough person I am I tested the other bulbs beside it. They tested ok also, but when I put the bulb back in the socket (after cleaning everything) when I inserted it and twisted it to secure it, it twisted apart, sort of crumbled. I'm on my way to Auto center to get a new bulb. the car is a 91 and kind of old. I checked all the fuses and they were fine, but my back sure isn't. it is crapped down there and don't like it. If this doesn't work, I'll rebuild the module when the caps arrive. Shame Radio Shack isn't open..

If it is a through hole resistor, like 1/4w ones, those can easily be fitted in the original cable making it look stock. --NOTE: No one is going to care or even see that resistor but it's just an excuse to use the resistors laying around the shop without buying smd ones
