- I need some way of powering my monster truck, but didn't want to shell out big bucks for an off the shelf diesel generator. Instead I bought a 28V DC generator that had the engine I wanted and put on a new generator head.
Original generator: Dewey Electronics Battery Charging Auxiliary Power Unit
Engine: Yanmar L100V Diesel ~10hp
Generator Head: 6kW Northstar

thanks for the share!

Your bro is like can i go now, this shit is loud!!
Hahaha yep!
Well, this video inspired me. My charger will be here in a couple weeks. :)
Nice Job Trey, it inspire me to go to the auction and buy an engine!!
I did something similar with one of the older MEP-501A units. This is a much better host for it though.
I was hoping to get one of them chargers from the last auction, looking good.
I'm really happy with it so far. Turn out the electric start issue I was having is just because one of my batteries was low.
Haha have the same issue with my china clone engine. What are you doing with the old dc generator head?
No plans for it. Probably end up selling it. If you're interested in it PM me on SS.
So after getting this all hooked up, what are your thoughts?
Is it in the truck yet for testing?
Was the generator head too much for the unit or would you recommend dropping down to the 4.5KW?
Mine is still stuck in Vegas thanks to UPS, so I've neither run it no ordered my gen head yet.
Thanks
I still haven't really loaded the generator down yet. Working on a unistrut cradle for it right now. Hoping to have it mounted to the truck soon.
Have you put it under load yet? I have the exact same motor and need a new generator head, Curious if this worked or not for you
Yes I've got another video of it running a welder at it's max current setting. Didn't even phase the engine
@@yertnamreg Thats awesome I enjoyed the video!! Thanks for making it. My motor is a L100V6 you said yours was a L100V I cant find any info on mine on the interweb I wonder what the difference is ? It looks the same
@@davidderaps8255 mine may be a l100v6, not sure. L100V is the main code of the engine. There are manuals out there on the web that have information on decoding your model number
Trey, could you have installed a bigger generator? how bigger could be the generator for this engine 10HP?
No this is the largest generator head I would install on this motor. The motor only puts out about 8hp continuous which is less than this generator wants, but it puts out much more torque than a gasoline engine so I think it is a perfect match.
@@yertnamreg Thanks for the explanation! These battery chargers are everywhere on military surplus and cheap as hell.
What type of batteries do you have there? I haven't seen those before...
Those are Hawker 6TL AGM batteries
What's the model number for this unit originally?
And do you still have the alternator you removed?
Yes
Well, did the generator do its job? That is what I was curious about.
Yes, it has 120v across each phase, but I haven't tested it under load. Been busy with work and the rest of the truck.
Any updates? Been a while.
Working on some new content. It's been difficult to work on it in freezing cold conditions.
When ya gonna do the Icarus or something like it. I miss those antixs man, funny as fuck.
First lol
WHY pollute an otherwise adequate video with so much loud, stupid music. I’m interested in your project and your commentary, but the obnoxious sound has to be squelched, and that means I miss most of what you say. It was great BEFORE you added the sonic desecration.
