  • Ever since Parajet released the Maverick, I've been fascinated with how they attached the netting to the hoop. In this video, I build my own version using parts available at most hardware stores.

man that is one wobbly video to watch - maybe get a stabiliser or at least run it through some stabilisation software for the handheld to camera bits!

Rod Gurov made me a net for my Maverick so I can use it to replace the weak stock netting. Rods nets are way strong and high quality. This video was helpful for my upcoming net replacement. Thanks for making it.

Thinking about doing this on my miniplane. How has it worked out for you so far?

I buy my nets from a guy in Canada. You can find him on Facebook Rod Gurov. There are many dealers for nets though. Just search for paramotor netting on google.

About how much did the tubing weigh?

Never measured it, but it was much heavier than using rivets. If you need the convenience of removing the netting it's a good mod, but for any competitive flying I would stay away from this.

@@yertnamreg Figured! I live in an apartment so have to painstakingly breakdown and rebuild the frame every time I fly. I'll have to look to see if I can find some lighter tubing - I'll let you know if I do.

It's a great idea and you managed to copy what they produce but why didn't you Google the expression "how to split plastic tubing" before you got started? There are many easy ways to split tubing that are better, faster, easier and safer than what you did. A 30 second search gave me 10 DIFFERENT ways to do it without generating poisonous vapours! Also, isn't the kerf "material removed" a bit much with this method?

"I did not want to build a jig because this was a one time deal".. In the space of time it takes you to just MARK your tube you could have built the jig AND split the tube and been finished before your method had you even starting with the actual splitting. (The actual tube splitting should take less than 30 seconds, as fast as you can pull it straight through the jig.) Any way I don't mean to rag on you. This is a great idea and I plan to use your suggestions but splitting flexible tubing is MUCH easier than this video makes it look. Your "jig" can be as simple as two nails in a 2x4.
