      Literature's hard for non-natives. A lot of schools don't cover it very thoroughly either. I'd suggest reading a lot of 19th century stuff and onward. Edgar Allen Poe, Hemingway, some Wordsworth, Frankenstein (great book too after the first few chapters), F. Scott Fitzgerald. I find a lot of the stuff they use comes from those eras and if you can read those you can handle just about everything. Read to get good

    So while registering, I chose the option which said I'll bring an iPad on test day since I don't have a laptop. But I've realized that an iPad is not very practical, hence I've decided I'll probably borrow someone's laptop. Is it okay if I bring the laptop on test day despite telling them on registration that I'll be using an iPad?

      @score-yourcollegecounselor Před 2 dny

      I don't think that'll be an issue, though to be honest I don't have any solid evidence for or against it. Generally I think they ask you what device you plan on bringing just to make sure you acknowledge that you have a device that actually can run Bluebook. So it's more of a legal thing than an actual restriction. I can tell you that the schools I've worked with on DSAT day have not checked students' devices when they come in, but not every place does things in the exact same way

      Yes, you can do that. While tends to be used without a comma when you're talking about two actions happening at the same time. If you're using it for contrast, it's more common to use the comma before, though it's still not required. I was walking down the street while I was listening to music. Does the SAT provide a metric and customary measurement system?

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor Před 14 dny

      So there are problems on the SAT that use freedom units like feet, miles, etc. You don't normally need to know how to convert those units though, although it might be good to brush up on that quickly. Like an easy example would be to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle and the given sides might be in feet. So it's just adding them up. Also, you don't have to write the units in. However, most questions related to science or geometry will use metric.

    I took a paper exam and got a 1450 (710E/740M) then I took the digital exam and felt wayyyy worse bc of module 2 but got a 1500(740E/760M). The adaptive testing completely threw me off because I had 24 minutes left of module 1 math but ran out of time on module 2. It seemed that many of my friends felt worse but scored better on digital vs paper.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor Před 18 dny

      That matches up with what a lot of my cases said during the transition between 2022-2023. The old paper test had more questions and by not being adaptive, it was basically impossible to get 1500 without getting nearly everything right save for a few. Now you could get a hard module, whiff on half the questions, and still score 1500 if your math was perfect and your first EBRW module was good. It's a weird system but it's definitely more forgiving than in the past for 1300-1500. I find it harder to get those super high scores though since just one mistake can bring you down 30 points in some cases.

    I am going to take the tour of both campuses on a same day. What method of transportation do you recommend? We are taking advantage that we are going to Madrid for holiday. We need to get to Segovia before 11 and then back to Madrid for the 4 p.m. tour. Any advice will be appreciated

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor Před 28 dny

      So from Madrid to Segovia you can take the "cercanía" train which leaves out of Chamartin station in Madrid. There's a few each day so you can definitely get in before 11 and be back to Madrid by the afternoon. It takes about an hour. You can get to Chamartin from a bunch of metro lines. My one tip is don't book cercanía tickets in advance. We thought we were smart by buying them the day before, and apparently they're only good for same-day use, so just get to the station a little before and use the machines there to get your tickets. If you're on board 10-20 minutes before departure you're totally fine. Once you get into Segovia there are buses that'll take you straight from the train station into town. There are bus stops for IE university and Convento Santa Cruz that'll drop you off right at the door, although we got off at the Acueducto station just to walk up the hill a bit and take in the neighborhood. It's like a 20 minute walk if you do that. I did almost the exact same itinerary. Got into Segovia at like 9 something in the morning, left after lunch, got to Madrid around 4, and spent the rest of the afternoon at the IE Tower.

    • @laeum1433
      @laeum1433 Před 28 dny

      Is that the name of the line or the station? Here in Germany where I live, there is an app with all the trains, schedules etc. is there an equivalent in Spain? Thank you

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor Před 27 dny

      Chamartin is the station you depart from in Madrid. Cercanias are like a specific kind of intercity train so there are cercanías for a bunch of places, when you buy the tickets you need to type in the destination so you get the correct fare and platform. I didn't really use any local apps, just Google Maps. You can get directions with public transportation there and it tells you exactly what stations and platforms to go to, so that's all I needed.

      @@score-yourcollegecounselor True. I went to this University and it just saddens me Western Students losing logic and reason. I assure you the top science universities in China and India are not wasting any time or electives on any of this. Those guys in the colored suits were not like this when I saw them during my Welcome Week 12 years ago. Im not even saying it's wrong, im just saying imo it doesnt belong in things like Engineering, Medicine, Chemistry, and things where clear minds matter. To be fair, now students are taught to say all this starting in high schools. But if i was some chemical or engineering company that cared about science breakthroughs, producing results and succeeding, I would NOT hire anybody thats in it just because of feminism, or culture, or sustainability. If thats what they told me during an interview or their resume. And they did not have these nonsense add-ons to programs. It was just a program in Engineering, or Chemistry etc. No Engineering and Culture program or the other nonsensical add ons. If you like that, go into Womens studies, or the countless Social Justice degrees they now have so students in the West waste their money and time. They probably cancelled the courses in Critical Thinking I had to take my 1st year, for these new ones. Thanks for the info, and it is useful for students to see to make up their minds where to go, or not go.

      I hear you there, ultimately the point of an education is to prepare you for work. I've done a lot of counseling for engineering programs though and for the most part they're still the same. They don't require you to take any classes focused on gender or race or whatever, but they do offer them as electives. I don't see your critical thinking course as a requirement anymore though, and I agree that should be there. I took a classical logic course in my program and it was super helpful. I will say that I think those students earned their spots though, these days more women are entering education than men and it's not just because of diversity quotas. Universities are becoming predominantly female due to demographic trends. But I do find it concerning that as a society we don't see that as a problem for men. When women were underrepresented everyone took action, now it's the other way around and nobody seems to have a problem with that.

I've consistently scored above 1550 in my bluebook practice tests (peaked at 1570), and I took two tests on PR and landed a 1460 and a 1400 lol. I was so horrified with my results, but then I did some digging and found that their questions were a little much and had quite a few problems. Great content, super concise. Totally my experience as well, and thanks for the sub! I got a lot of older stuff here that you might find helpful, and I got some new stuff in the works for 2024 applicants. Waiting on the IACAC conference to get some more inside info to share too so that'll be coming up soon.

      @@elryen592 probably. It depends on you though. My June SAT result came out a few days ago and I scored a 1550 with a 790 in maths. I had a lot of trouble with princeton review maths. I just think princeton review can be very subjective, and it's not ideal for the test-taker.

      There's a mini test you can take on the site without signing up, but if you sign up for an account and go to buy more tests you should still be able to add practice test 1 to your account for free. At least it was working a couple of weeks ago

    Teacher, I would like to ask a question. When these two markings serve the same purpose, why does sentence 4 employ a semicolon instead of a full stop?

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor Před 2 měsíci

      So while you generally won't see questions like that on the SAT, I wanted to discuss the difference a bit here so I added that example. Generally, you could use a semicolon instead of a period for two clauses that are very closely linked in idea or theme, or if you have two ways of saying the same thing. Compare these: Lucuma is a fruit indigenous to (and very popular in) Peru; you can find it in every market nationwide. Lucuma is a fruit indigenous to (and very popular in) Peru. It's commonly used as a flavoring in desserts, although you can still eat it whole. In the first case, I'm still focusing on the idea of it being a fruit you'd find in Peru. In the second case, I'm getting more specific into how it is used. A semicolon wouldn't be as good of a choice in the 2nd case because we're moving on to a different topic.

    Hi! In most of the websites, it is written that when the situation is a dependent clause after an independent clause there is no need for any comma (expect that it is contrast conjunction) however in the 1st question you used a comma between them. Can you please explain why?

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor Před 2 měsíci

      In this case, we're not actually using the word "when" to describe the moment when something happens. In that case, you would probably omit the comma. In this case, we're giving another definition or explanation of the previous clause, which would work best with a pause. Also, A is definitely the best answer out of the 4, and sometimes on the SAT the "best" answer won't be the one that follows the rules perfectly, but is closest to it.

    Thanks for taking the time to check out our platform!! Just a few comments on the review of our product. 1) We are not just an SAT practice test platform-- we are compared in this video to some providers (such as ScoreSmart) that ONLY provide tests-- or other providers that focus on providing tests-- we are a turnkey self-paced prep course PLUS several practice tests. The value rating and calculation appears to focus only on our test content (calculating a cost per test)-- obviously some may only be looking for tests, but our pricing assumes value for our other offerings as well. 2) Value-rating wise-- please note our course includes video tips and review content-- hours of it equivalent to what I cover in a 10+ week prep course. Other features we have include a Bluebook import tool that allows students to import data from their official tests and create customized study lists of these lessons based on exactly what they missed. (we are not associated w/ College Board) 3) This review was done on our BETA mode of the course. We are currently adding more content-- we have 4 live tests now, and almost 900 math practice questions-- the equivalent of over 13 math practice exams, but sorted by type so you can drill down content as opposed to approaching it at random in a test. The video shows/evaluates the verbal practice modules, where yes, at present we are still adding to our content offerings, but I don't think it gave us any credit for our robust math practice sets. At the time this was published, we did have only a few practice items for each subcategory for verbal (Command of Evidence: Quantitative or possession for example). Currently we have 33 items in Information & Ideas, 39 in Craft & Structure, 14 in expression of ideas, and 73 in Standard English Conventions. This is currently equivalent to almost 2 verbal practice tests. My videos also cover other examples. We plan to add about ~200 more verbal practice items in the next month (again the equivalent of another ~2 practice tests) as well as a quiz creator feature from our question database. We are also planning to add a PSAT practice test this summer, bringing our total "equivalent" tests up to around 9 by summer 2024, and will add tests 5 & 6 from there. We're a small team -- and working to ensure high quality material as we roll more material out. 4) Yes our verbal tests are tracking harder than the real exams. We have adjusted the scoring on our Test #1 to this end so students hopefully get a score closer to range but should expect to miss several more questions than they may be used to missing and as data comes in will continue to adjust scoring and/or questions. Re: our math tests we're actually planning to increase the difficulty level and reduce the "Desmos-able" quality of some questions based on user feedback from the March SAT -- they were tracking well to Bluebook exams on scoring but this seems low compared to actual exams at this point. We are iterating and always welcome feedback!

      Just wanna say I am always happy to hear replies like these, and I think you've got a solid product out there that's definitely worth consideration. As you (and I in the video) pointed out, I was 100% focusing on mock tests and while I did try to take into consideration additional content that might be available, I wanted to try to keep it as objective as possible. Plus, it would have taken a LOT more time to really sit down and analyze every aspect of additional content and I wanted to keep this relatively straightforward. I was not aware that this was still in development (at least I didn't notice any obvious "this is a beta" messages when logging in), but it's great to hear you're adding even more value to the program and creating more content. Hit me up if you'd be interested in having me take a deeper look at what you've put together or getting some feedback.
