  • March 2023 Digital SAT results are about to drop! College Board claims that all questions are worth the same number of points, which would imply that there's a curve applied just like the old days of the paper SAT. But that, like many things College Board says, is a lie. I'm going to prove to you today that there is no curve on the Digital SAT. Here's how the Digital SAT Scores really work.

    English: 720, Math: 780. I think my module 2s were far more difficult than anything I had ever seen on the practice tests, most of my practice sat scores on the digital and on paper format were an 800 for math, and I was getting about 30 points higher on the English section.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor

      Interesting, I wouldn't be surprised if the hard modules felt harder. Supposedly they also include some "experimental" questions that don't officially count for your score. But still, 1500 is awesome and you should be popping champagne.

      Nice work on the 700! Sounds like you got a particularly rough hard module. That's the thing with this adaptive testing, it's really unpredictable. Two hard modules can be totally different and what's "hard" for one person may not be as hard for another. I'd definitely say take it again, the law of averages will eventually work out for you.

    English 660, Math 670 Overall 1330. I found both module 2s significantly harder than the first ones. In the first module of math I had 17 minutes to recheck all my answers (I did every question twice from scratch so I doubt I made a mistake there) and for the 2nd one I barely had any time left.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem +2

      I think your analysis is solid, seems like you would have missed most of your questions on the 2nd module and that's why the score didn't drop much overall, really good result

  • @NataliaRay-cy7ft
    @NataliaRay-cy7ft Před 26 dny +1

    I took a paper exam and got a 1450 (710E/740M) then I took the digital exam and felt wayyyy worse bc of module 2 but got a 1500(740E/760M). The adaptive testing completely threw me off because I had 24 minutes left of module 1 math but ran out of time on module 2. It seemed that many of my friends felt worse but scored better on digital vs paper.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před 22 dny

      That matches up with what a lot of my cases said during the transition between 2022-2023. The old paper test had more questions and by not being adaptive, it was basically impossible to get 1500 without getting nearly everything right save for a few. Now you could get a hard module, whiff on half the questions, and still score 1500 if your math was perfect and your first EBRW module was good. It's a weird system but it's definitely more forgiving than in the past for 1300-1500. I find it harder to get those super high scores though since just one mistake can bring you down 30 points in some cases.

    I've taken the SAT three times in a row, and I find myself perplexed and disheartened by the scoring algorithm. In the June SAT, my math score was 780, despite having all the blocks filled in my score report. However, in my latest attempt, things took a turn for the worse. With only one block incorrect, I experienced a deduction of 120 marks. I must express my frustration; it's challenging to accept these outcomes after putting in so much effort over these three attempts.
    The English section presents a similar situation. In the October SAT, I had five blocks wrong, resulting in a deduction of 170 marks. This December, with only three blocks incorrect, I still faced a deduction of around 140 marks. From this comparison, I estimate that each block corresponds to only 15-20 points. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide insights into how the algorithm operates. Addressing and rectifying the numerous flaws in the digital SAT is crucial, particularly for international students like myself who are grappling with the challenges of the system.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před 6 měsíci

      Those blocks are approximations for easy visual understanding, but should not be taken as concrete guidance or a specific number of questions wrong. The blocks in the report are not to be used to determine your scores. They simply round to the nearest block based on the percentage of questions in that area that you got correct.

      If you get to two options, that's perfectly normal. Don't overthink it and waste too much time. My advice definitely depends on the kind of question you're dealing with, but I think that in general when you get stuck you want to see how many reasons you can find to justify each answer. Pick the one with more support from the rest of the paragraph.
      If it's vocab/punctuation/grammar and you just don't know, try reading the sentence "out loud in your head" and see which answer feels best and go with that one. You have years of English practice that has developed a certain instinct for the right choice, trust that instinct when you're not sure what the answer is.

    I took practice test #1 and I got a 1260. 650 in English and 610 in Math. I had 10 questions wrong in the English section. The majority of them are in the second module since it is the hardest one. And I had 14 wrong on the math section. Mainly because I got 4 of the last 5 questions wrong on the second module since it is the hardest module. And from what I have seen with other people is that on the second module when you gett questions wrong even on the hard ones they mainly cost you around 7-10 points per question. The easier questions will likely be worth 15 or 20 points. Like solving for x on 2x = 20. If you get that wrong that would be worth at least around 20. But the hard ones are a maximum of 10.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor

I have seen some hard module questions in English take off 20 though in my practice sessions, so even one mistake can cost you.

      That sounds very similar to the one practice test I did where I had perfect English but was bad in the first half of math and got easy math for the 2nd module. I had 1280 when I did that, I still had a few mistakes on the 2nd math module though. I imagine yours was similar with English and if you started off with a lot of mistakes, you can't recover as many points on the easy module.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem

      Could have just been one extra mistake more than normal. Frustrating for sure. I don't think it could have been mismarked, but you may have accidentally marked the wrong answer too. I could see that happening more easily on DSAT since you're not filling in a bubble on a sheet, could have misclicked without realizing it. There are also keyboard shortcuts that can mark answers for you and if you accidentally hit those keys (unlikely) you could have made some mistakes that way as well

    You are actually mistaken. All questions have the same point. However the first module has a different curve from the second module. To make clear test this: first make mistake on Question 54 then make a mistake a question 53. They will be the same. However as i mentioned there is actually a two curve system. First module + second module= the whole exam.

      That's an interesting proposition and one that I'd like to test out. If you've already done this and could show me, I'd love to see it. Hit me up on the whatsapp link at prepwithscore.com. I may experiment with this more myself. Thanks in advance!

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem +1

      They don't mail results, I think the mailing address is more for their internal data and for the credit card payment.
      As with all SAT scores, you will self-report on your application and then you will have to tell College Board to send the official results to universities later. So they will always need the official results sent directly from College Board in the end.
      And the digital SAT DOES improve your chances in some cases, however it depends on the school's policy. Obviously there are some "optional" schools that aren't really that optional, and there are some others that don't care. And there are schools that require SAT always.

      @@score-yourcollegecounselor ok, thank you so much, how long time could I get 600 English, and 700 math?

      I'll be honest, that kind of jump in English takes a lot of work. You might be able to get there, but it would take a lot of work, and honestly I don't think it would necessarily be the best idea. The SAT is not as important as many people think in the US, and that time might be better spent working on essays, getting good letters from teachers, and researching universities so you can show them that you are really interested
      But I think you can improve quite a bit from where you are now! Give the test another try and work at it a few hours a week. But don't go crazy trying to get a super high score.

      How do you know you got 6 errors? That seems highly unlikely. Maybe you guessed right on some you thought you were going to get wrong.

    This sounds bad. If you get a really hard one wrong, you lose points. You could lose more and more. If someone gets easy questions, they can gain on you. So it seems.

      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před 4 měsíci

      Not really. Getting the easy module means your score is pretty much capped at 600 because you've already whiffed on so many in the first module. If you're getting the hard module, you're almost certainly going to have a higher score than someone who got an easy module.

    if we need to figure out everything , then what is khan academy doing 😑. I got 540 in English 😭,740 in math

      Some people actually told me that Khan Academy had different correct answers from the same tests as Bluebook on a couple of questions, I haven't verified that but clearly things haven't been very organized. I wonder how much time they had to actually prepare material.

      It's possible the one you got wrong was one of the "experimental" questions. They have a couple on each test that aren't graded but actually are meant to evaluate potential types of questions for future tests.
