    Hi SCORE, firstly i wanna thank you and your team for everything, secondly I want your advice about vocab questions. as an international student I'm struggling with them and I'm reading articles also I'm studying with magoosh flashcards but I don't see a big improving in my scores (in vocab questions), in addition my test is on 3th june so what can I do to improve my vocab as fast as possible?

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem +1

      I don't want to be negative, but vocab isn't something you improve overnight. It's probably the area that takes the most time because you not only have to learn new words but also get comfortable using them in context. I would encourage you to practice writing with that new vocabulary too. Maybe use a tool like grammarly which can point out if you're using words incorrectly.
      Make sure you focus on your transition words too as those are usually about half of the vocab words.

    Hi @SCORE: Your College Counselor , Is there any specific question type you would advice us to start with on the exam day, and wich type of questions i should do in the end? My strategy is doing: 1st grammar (15-27), 2nd Reading(6-14) and 3rd Vocabulary questions(1-5). This strategy doesnt really seem to be working because i run out of time(Mostly it happens in the 2nd harder module) and dont even get to read vocab questions.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem

      Yeah I personally don't think there's much benefit in jumping around the test as that takes time and introduces more possibilities for mistakes. Besides, I would usually suggest doing the vocab questions first since those can be done rather quickly. If you're saving them for last then I could see that being a problem on the 2nd module. You could maybe do 5 vocab questions in the time it takes to do two supporting claims questions and it'd be better to get more done.
      And as always, read only what you need. If you're running out of time on the 2nd part then that's probably a sign that you're reading too much with some of the longer texts they use.

    Hi :) I am prepping to become a digital SAT reading tutor. I downloaded your free video and saw that you were teaching grammar and vocab points with Kahoot. After going through many practice exams, do you think doing Kahoot with a one-on-one student would be a good idea? I kind of like the idea. THANK YOU

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem

      Yeah Kahoot 1-on-1 is totally fine. While I think it's more fun with a group you can still do it with one person. My only advice there is just try not to make it super hard, because it can become kind of discouraging when you're getting many answers wrong and you're alone in the game. When other people get answers wrong too, you don't feel as bad about it.

    Hello sir
    I have a problem with choosing the best test for me, I am hesitating between taking the SAT or the ACT.
    But the problem is I know that the digital SAT more convenient than the ACT. but when it comes to teh curve the ACT is way too much better and easier so I decided to take the ACT but when I talked to my colledge counselor about it she told me that the SAT better for the school that I want to apply for WEILL CORNELL QATAR, and if you see the requirements they take both test, it doesn't matter for them, and other problem is they put the avarage score for the SAT which is 1530 without putting the avarage scores for the ACT. Does that mean they prefer the SAT over the ACT
    But still they accept both of them

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem +1

      If they don't put the average for the ACT, that doesn't necessarily mean they prefer SAT. It may just be because they receive more SAT scores and don't have quite enough ACT data to give reliable numbers. In general, it doesn't matter which test you do. You should do whichever one is more comfortable for you.

      in your punctuation practice 4 the answer to the question is B, which uses an em dash. I'm not quite sure how that is the answer as in my opinion option A made more sense to me as a semi-colon would separate those two independent clauses. Are em dash used for something else as well?

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem

      So a semicolon could definitely work, but given that this is a hard conclusion and you're trying to end strong. The colon can be used to add emphasis and it works well for that at the end of a sentence or near the end of a paragraph. It's a way to add a strong finishing move.
      The em dash can act as a colon so that's why it's the best answer here.

    Thanks for all the content. Can you say what you think about this SAT question? Here is the text:
    The Eiffel Tower is a popular tourist destination in Paris, France. It helped Paris' economy because of tourists. __, some countries have replicas of the Eiffel Tower to promote local and foreign tourism, like Delhi, India.
    The question is to connect these 2 sentences with a connector.
    The answer is either additionally or subsequently. I personally think it's additionally but pretty much half of the people think it's subsequently and when I think about it, subsequently also makes sense so it's really confusing and I'm not sure which one is the right answer choice.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem

      I would say subsequently just because it makes it clear that the 2nd action is the direct result of the first. Additionally could just be something additional about how the Eiffel Tower helped Paris. Like I would use Additionally if I was going to say something about how it looks beautiful in the city skyline.

    • @extrimis4905
      @extrimis4905 Před rokem +1

      Yeah I thought like that too, but on the other hand additionally makes sense cause we're adding an extra information to the 1st sentence. The 1st sentence talks about the original tower and the 2nd sentence talks about replicas of the original thing which can be viewed as extra information. Also to be honest additionally sounds better with these sentences while subsequently sounds a bit awkward. Anyways I think this is a confusing question and I don't understand how can one of these choices be wrong. You can kinda explain a way of viewing it that makes additionally or subsequently correct but it's hard to explain why the other one can't be right. This actually was on the harder module of june digital sat so there has to be a clear way of rejecting one of these.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem

      Additionally 'sounds' better because you use it more. Subsequently is the best answer here because its meaning fits best in this case. There is a clear cause-and-effect relationship between the two sentences: Paris got a tourism boost from an Eiffel Tower, so we're going to make one too and get a tourism boost. That "SO" means that subsequently is the best choice.
      Additionally would be better here if there was no direct connection between those two sentences. Or if it was just additional information about tourism in Paris or the Eiffel Tower.

    • @extrimis4905
      @extrimis4905 Před rokem +1

      What you say about subsequetly totally makes sense and I agree on it. In fact, that's what I was thinking on the test too, but what's wrong with this reasoning? The 1st sentence talks about the original tower and the 2nd sentence talks about replicas of the original thing which can be viewed as extra information. Additionally can be used if you're adding extra information. Isn't talking about replicas after talking about the main thing considered as extra information? Like the main thing is Eiffel tower and the extra things are the replicas. I see the cause-effect relationship but at the same time I see extra information too. The cause-effect relationship is not so accurate too due the fact that the 2nd part says to promote tourism while the 1st part says it helped economy because of promotion in tourism. While it's logical to assume, we don't know if the goal of those replicas is to help economy or they just want only a promotion of tourism.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Před rokem

      But we DO know that the goal of those replicas is to help the economy. The first sentence literally says it helped Paris' economy because of tourism. That sentence has already made the connection between tourism and the economy. We MUST assume that the same connection applies to the next sentence here.
      So, logically, the 2nd sentence is telling us that other countries wanted to get that same result because they also wanted to increase tourism (and therefore, boost the economy). More tourism is inherently better for the economy, there's no other way to interpret that.
      Choosing to interpret that as just "extra information" ignores the logical connection established in the first sentence and would be wrong.
