Well I have a more moderate pov of this alliance. Even though every alliance would like to exert a form of dominance over others, BRICS prioritises the ties between these countries to promote political stability. Russia and China the two superpowers are always at a push on each other while China and India have frequent skirmishes on the very economically important Indian Ocean, and most of south east asia. To improve cooperation so as to facilitate the trade better this cooperation is necessary between the three giants. Brazil and India again are mineral rich countries and better cooperation between them means better trade. And honestly I have no idea about what South Africa has to contribute to the group, except that India let it join.

There is no BRICS free travel zone or BRICS common currency, it is not like the EU or NATO. An alliance that actually HAS affected our daily lives and functions more like the EU is Mercosul, which is like an EU but for South America only. Not a military alliance either, by the way. And unlike the EU it hasn't yet created a common currency or abolished borders between member states, it has only made travel and immigration easier. Also, ask any Brazilian and they will tell you that we consider ourselves to be part of "the West™", as we speak an European language, are majority Christian, are located in the Western hemisphere and we are a capitalist (although corrupt) democracy.
