I spent two weeks in Romania. I visited Brasov. I have never seen so many kürtős kalács shops in my life as in these two weeks. Once the nice locals shouted my head off because I went too close to a bear. Since I returned to my wonderful country (Orbánland). My dear compatriots have been watching me ever since, waiting for the moment to find a Romanian flag in my house and beat the crap out of me in the name of patriotism. Fortunately, they haven't caught me yet, so wish me luck.

Yo you and me have fought in the comments before. I am Utahraptor. Glad to see that out of youtube keyboard wars we can enjoy each others cultures. I also ate kurtos kalacs at Brașov and it was pretty great. Greetings to you brother 🤝

You know you can just come live in Romania , in case you know you might like a future, or at least the chance of having one. And if you are a Hungarian speaking Romanian all the Romanians will love you . Hungarians speaking Romanian is literally our colective fetish.
I'm Hungarian, and live in Hungary, but my grandma still lives in Romania. She's very good friends with her Romanian neighbors, so much so that one time our entire family visited the neigbor's parents in a rural village somewhere. I could not utter a single Romanian phrase beyond the greetings (and the first two verses of a poem), but they have been so hospitable it was unreal. They were so nice to us even though we couldn't even talk with eachother, only my dad translating between us sometimes.
That's great but also normal at the same time ! :)
Don't worry, most romanians don't know any other verses from "Somnoroase pasarele pe la cuiburi se aduna" lol!
I have said this in another comment, but transilvanians and hungarians long respected each other in the rural area. ( in the cities romanians were not allowed outside working hours )
Todays goverments seem to be ruled by the worst performing students in both countries. They surely have not read a history of their ruling regions besides what their old communist gave them.
The issue the romanians have is not with hungarians. It's with the szekely - they say about themselves they are not hungarian. But theay want independence from Romania - even if their economoy is shit. Orban giving them money does not help.

Those flatlands made me feel at home. And I'm Dutch, I consider a 1 metre elevation a noteworthy hill. And you're telling me that that is the same country as those massive mountains? Wow, I'm flabbergasted.
Also those churches! Really beautiful! Painting the outside was a genius move! The sheer variety in architecture also really astounds me!
Honestly, this really makes me want to go to Romania. This is some of the most effective advertising for a country I've ever seen. Please finish this trilogy. It's too good not to.
not only they're in the same country, they're less than 2hours away. Imagine driving off from Amsterdam and still being in the country and already reaching the mountains
1 third of Romania is just grass flatlands! So come here and enjoy the flatness! :)
You're more than welcome to come and visit - our hotels are not only cheap, but well-kept. Heck, there's a hotel right above my gym if you need to get your gains in.
Also, I'd like to take this moment and laud Utrecht's architecture. It was one of the most gorgeous cities I've ever been to and the buildings that had literal boats parked next to doors leading straight to the waterways really left an impression on me; one building even had one corner submerged, the rest was on land, and the entire thing was built up a slope - wild.
You should see what Colorado's Front Range is like. There's seemingly endless prairie that suddenly stops at the Rocky Mountains.
How about a deal? Support your politicans that back Romania's access to Schengen and when you visit you'll have no trouble crossing the border instantly!

It's true about the people. My brother's wife Ira fled from Ukraine to Romania(Timishoara) with her 2 children, fearing the unknown. They returned back to Ukraine, bringing the impression of this great country, of how much the Romanians are cheerful seeing anyone's kids in the street, taking care of so much roses at the houses so that Ira wondered how is it possible to dedicate this much time to the plants flowers. The city of Timishoara has even committed a budget to found a Ukrainian school for Ukrainian children (it's in progress). That's quite unique, all others expect the kids to either speak local language or downgrade the class to have the time to adapt in easier tuition program. Thank you. Cheers!

👋American here who spent some time living in Romania almost a decade ago-I've been absolutely loving your videos on Romania as they have given me a humorous window into parts of the culture I never got to see and learn. I've done a lot of searching around CZcams for content like this and yours is by far the best. Keep it coming!
I'm Hungarian. I've never seen Romania, but I have several Romanian colleagues. I've also met some Romanian people in not work related context. I can say one thing: they are the friendliest and most caring people I've ever met. Once in a park we put our blanket beside a Romanian (or Moldovan?) couple who were eating fruit. They cleaned and cut up some pieces and offered them to us on a plate.
There can never be enough content about Romania and feelings and emotions
Either absolute love and infatuation or total uncontrolled hate, Romania doesn't leave you indifferent

I'm Italian and my bf's Romanian, he's from a city that has no turistic attraction to offer but I never complain when we travel to his home town because the people there treat you like you've always been part of the family even tough they're 'just' neighbours and it's the second time they see you. Romanian people are the nicest I've ever met!
I like how most of these points about Romania count for Bulgaria too. It's truly wonderful to see how similar we are with Romania, which is arguably only second to Macedonia when it comes to similarity to Bulgaria. Wish all the Romanians in this comment section a very good day, and hope relations between both countries continue on their positive trajectory.
Romanian and Bulgarians are essentialy sister-nations. Dacians were Thracians. While Dacians embraced roman culture, you, the thracians embraced the slavic one.
Romania is Latin Bulgaria and Bulgaria is Slavic Romania
@@PepeChadIsDaGoat Kinda true even if oversimplified. There's also the fact that both the Bulgarian Empires ruled over Romania, so a lot of Bulgarian influence in Romania.
As a Romanian living in Bulgaria I can tell you that while there are many similarities there's also a major difference, Transylvania. There you can just feel and see the Austro-Hungarian influence and as a person born there I like it a lot.
In Bulgaria you have a more Turkish influence which although present partially in Romania is not that big.
That being said if not for Transylvania probably the 2 countries would be even more alike.
@@mforce2 Makes sense overall as Romania is divided regionally that way, same with Bulgaria to some extend but the Turkish influence can never be fully escaped. I'd still say we are the most similar people's to each other overall, especially considering the majority lives outside of Transylvania.
As a Dutchman, the quarter pounder comment hit me hard. Thank you for another round of masochism, Apa János.

So as a Hungarian as you mentioned to "get it out of my system". The only thing that pisses me off is that rather than people sitting down to the table and working things out, hold on to hundred year old grudges that none of us can change and almost nobody alive today had any input on.
I was raised in Romania and other than the occasional jab at the history Hungary I didn't notice any big animosity. With that being said the funniest and most wholesome thing that happened was when we went out to a bar for a few drinks where we meet a few acquaintances so we mostly spoke in Romanian since that was the common language until a few more Hungarians joined us who didn't know a single word, then we continued in the chat and drinks in English since that became the easiest common language in the group.
And other than consuming all the beer from the small bar (think it was Silva or some other dark one) everyone had a great time.

I spent about three weeks in Timisoara and Arad in the Banat region about nine years ago. Many of the buildings were old and worn, and you could tell it was still recovering from some very tough times (Ceausescu). Even so, the people were extremely friendly and hospitable, the city of Arad, even with its wear and tear, was charming and beautiful. I even got to see an old ruined castle, which, even in its decrepit state, was absolutely gorgeous, and had this aura of history that commanded respect.

A lot has been renovated since; Timișoara is 2023 European Culture Capital and it looks just amazing now.
Timisoara looks very different from what it looked like a few years ago, and this year they also started a project to complete modernise and restore the long square with the huge Orthodox Church which will become part of the square itself and not cut off by a road.

(We've still got bad roads, trash thrown around and a lot of corruption. But it's nice to see the good parts too)
i feel like the road quality has somewhat improved honestly, it's not that bad as it was 10/20 years ago
@@conneath yeah, i guess. Still pretty rough though. The neighbors and our family named 3 of the potholes on the road home and now we're emotionally attached to those, I hope they won't be fixed😂
I'd definitely want to see a part 2! Your humor is unmatched:D
This is part 2 ;)
part 3 then lol@@LivingIronicallyinEurope

You forgot the Brancovenesc style of the South. It's pretty unique and good loooking.
this
or the Neo Romanian style all over the "Old Kingdom" or the Moldavian style although that's sadly mostly just churches and monasteries nowadays
I come from the future, I just watched part 2304 of this series. Glad to see even its beginnings were this good.
There was a running joke when i was in high school which went as follows
The only Ardeal the hungarians will get their hands on is the pate brand
How does it feel to walk home after a long day of work just to see that the gypsies stole your house?
@@denifnaf5874 The gypsies (nomads from India) were exported to the west, so they are someone else's problem now 😂
Does non-locals really know that Ardeal is another term for the often-fought-over Transylvania? Or it doesn't matter, as long as the Hungarians understood? 😅
@@bernhardb4711 Erderly is the Hungarian name for Ardeal.
@@nairpic7360 I know. Coming from the outside, I don't really bother to make a big difference.
We can all relax, there is even a common enemy now, when Russia wants to enslave Europa yet again. 🤷♂️
Now I really want to visit Romania to take in its beautiful landscapes.
Regarding the architecture, we also have our unique styles that are very beautiful like: Brâncovenesc style or Neo-românesc style
DOBROGEA MENTIONED 🗣️📣 RAAAHHHHHH🦅🦅 Glad you liked the fish 🐟
I don't write comments under videos usually, but now I have to express my appreciation for your work. I think that the way you describe the different Balkan cultures (intentionally not politically correct-, but at the same time in a correct way) can help bring the people who live here closer together.
Thank you from Hungary.
...and well, yes: kurvára fáj!
Sounds like I have to visit Romania someday.
As a German I don't need to visist Romania, since it's already here and has stolen my bike. Jokes aside though, found myself a new vacation place. Some great scenery!
don't be cheap in securing your bike wherever you are. I'm sure there other migrants to worry about in your country. Romanians do not attack with bombs and guns your Christmas markets, a no other east-European's.
maaaaaaaaan it always feels so good when people do us justice. Great video
Damn even the outro song is romanian. That's how much respect this guy has for us.
Respect, brate !
I am from Romania, moved to Britain 21 years ago ... and now I plan to return.
I want to go back to my roots.
Also, Muntenia has fantastic Brancovenesc style houses.
They are just amazing.
As a Hungarian from Transylvania i can confidently say i like it way more in Romania. This country is an almost perfect combination of development and history. It has modern comforts and old traditions almost wherever you go. And the fact that everyone here understands the flaws of the place and we all make fun of it constantly makes dealing with it way easier. I have made close friends before by complaining about our hometown and that means something special here. Nobody hates a town as much as the residents.
Also some of the corruption is really funny sometimes when people forget to hide it. One time a 2 year old (the son of a mayor that stole money from the town) "purchased" a large plot of land with a villa on it. Totally normal.

I live in Romania, in Oltenia and I am happy to hear your beautiful words about my country ❤️
Spot on about how great the people are. I was here less than a week and spoke zero romanian and ended up getting fed and sloshed on tuica by the neighbors. It was great. Agree with everything else as well.
A few years ago, I would just hope this guy would visit Romania, now he is living here, amazing
This is guy is doing more for the country than any government we had in the past 30 years😭💀
You start talking about Romanian food, I instantly liked your video. Just bought from a small producer from market some nice Sibiu bread and lebăr, they were delicious! Now I am stuffing myself with some seedless red grapes.
As a Szekely I like living in Romania and I think Transylvania should be Romanian.
As a guy with Romanian standard as my avatar, I think what you say makes a lot of sense. 🤭

Fully agree. Romania is a melting point of everything and I'm looking forward to how great the country is going to be.
We need to get you citizenship, my good man. We need to fire the entire Romanian tourism ministry and give you their money. You did more for us in a video than they did in the last 30 years. Cheers and thank you for this amazing video!
As a hungarian who grew up in Oradea , Romania (pictures show) I can not agree more. Keep up the good work!❤
Although my exposure to them is limited, I like Romanian people. They’re friendly, funny, upstanding, also I found the “thieving stereotype” false. Unless they’re gypos (with a Romanian passport)… I’m sorry but it’s just the way it is. 🤷♂️

I am glad you're one of us! Part 3 is definitely a must see.
I have never seen you talk about Sibiu much, or even use footage from there. If you've never been, i highly recommend going there. It's easily my favorite city in Romania (and not because it's where i was born)
Just booked my first trip to Bukarest ever because of this video!
For more knowlege about our country, please read "A Brief Illustrated History of Romanians
