00:32 Interview..... Why are you considering leaving the USA and moving to somewhere like Romania?
01:05 What's causing the apparent decline in the USA (That's making you consider moving)
01:36 What's the worst situation that could happen in America (Given the current apparent decline in the USA)
01:46 What do you think is likely to happen? Most likely scenario (Given the current apparent decline in the USA)
01:56 Do you see the situation (In the USA) getting fixed?
02:25 Which countries are you considering moving to? And in that list how would you rank Romania?
03:36 Why did the Americans and Canadians you met in Georgia (The country not the US state) decide to settle on moving to Georgia?
04:02 Romania is scary because it's part of the EU? (In the context of Georgia not being part of the EU)
04:06 What was the logic behind choosing Georgia (the country) over a country like Romania (Eastern European but in the EU)
[Note to self, stop taking over the interviewee!!!!... make notes instead and ask those questions when he's finished
04:05 If you decided to move (to Romania), what would you do for an income?
05:30 Would (micro hydro power) work in Georgia (the country)?
05:56 Would you consider collaborating (with Random Romania CZcams channel)?
06:27 If you were to set up a farm (here in Romania), how would you go about that? The steps?
07:11 Could you build (a laminated pressurized skin greenhouse - it's a way of keeping them insulated)?
07:43 What's your opinion about farming and technology in general?
09:56 If we wanted to directly target other people like you (Western farmers and people wanting out of the west) how should we contact those people?
13:30 What questions do you (Peter, the interviewee) have?
15:55 End of interview, drone flyover of area and a couple of land deals and summing up
[I need to improve my interviewing technique, any feedback on that from someone who actually knows what they're doing, please put that in the comments below]
We're also looking for more people like Peter to collaborate with, especially if they're seriously considering moving here. If that's you please ask for our contact details in the comments section

Coming back to Romania from Germany
I just came back from visiting Romania for 10 days. It was my first time visiting this beautiful country. I really want to move there within the next few years. I’m from the States, and I agree with this guy. The STATES are imploding.
My goal is to learn the language this year, then seriously looking into moving. Any tips or advice?

I was born in Romania and immigrated to the west with my family. Some 35 years later I came back to Romania, now almost 2 years. Exactly for the same reasons exposed in the video. My family tought i was crazy to come back. It wasn't and it is not everyday easy but it's worth it. I live in a beautiful old village on the coutry side at the beginning of the mountains surrendered by forest. Quite remote, end of the road here, although not far away for the dailly needs and also from a big city ( some 100 km), airport and highway. Beautiful old big saxon houses with in between 2000 up to 5000 sqm land for still good prices. So all in all I do not regret my choice to move here. A lot of people from cities or foreigners have bought land and houses in the surrounding areas over the last 3 years. Anyway all this to say that if someone is interested, glad to be in contact. There are still some houses fo sale in our village ( they need renovation works) and we would be more than glad to meet interesting people and have new nice neighbors who want to bring more life to the village and the surroundings and help each other. We speak fluently romanian, german, french, italian and English. All the best luck to everyone.

Interesting video, I came back in Romania last year after living in ON, Canada 24 years. I didn't even think about comming back before 2020, but Covid restrictions in Canada , we couldn't buy underware just esentials, food and medicines , not allowed to move for work. Most of my romanian friends returned and tens of thousands of est europeans, serbian ,polish that like myself experienced communism and lack of freedom before. The cost of living is high in RO, energy, food but still can find on old house in country side afordable. The climate here in RO is way milder than Canada even here in North in Maramures which is one of the most beautiful regions, and mostly nice population with christian values and fear of God . Canada and USA turned into a multicultural globalist experiment. The only thing worries me is the war, because i live 2km from Ukraine border, in Sighetu Marmatiei and since i am back, i hear the air raid alarms in Ukraine almost every day. But i used lo live in Windsor ON, across the river from Detroit, if this war gets nuclear, better here .

Do you rent out your Romanian home to paying guests. Also do you know about any Romanian women who might be good wife material?
No sir. She knows nothing. She's just a snob!
Toll! Wie der Prinz Charles(es tut mir leid, König Charles III)
She is stuck in misconceptions. One would be that returning to Romania would mean she failed in the UK.
My husband is Italian who lived in Switzerland and we live happily in Romania, Arad county, it's not perfect but we make it to be perfect for us. We have lots of visitors from Italy and they see Romania differently they have pictured it from the Romanians who imigrated in Italy.

I love this video . Sadly when people hear of a good place so many people flock there that it changes things for everyone and not in a good way . Prime example Portugal . All readers please don’t go there paying massive amounts for things above local pricing . It causes the locals to be pushed out , and don’t think you will be welcome after that . Whenever someone posts it’s “ cheap “ here , they are forgetting that it is not cheap for locals living on their wages . Thanks for sharing .
Romania has so much negative publicity (totally unjustified) and lies in the West, that we are not afraid that we could be overwhelmed by an influx of foreigners. After all, negative publicity is also useful for something.
Portugal is a small country, there's no space. Romania can easily take twice the amount of people it has right now and still have enough space for its natural beauties.

I really hope you get to move here , your skills as a farmer in the U.S are really important , you know different twiks and perks that are not so common in Romania (with the older generation) but will be embraced by the young , like me and others .
The American dream is really big in Romania , we don't wanna move to the U.S , but we want to own a home , a car , have kids , and live happy .

Very educated American man. He is right about the resources discovered on one's legally owned: the state owns it. Also, pay attention to legal documents when purchasing land and or real estate anywhere in Romania. It is easy to check for a Romanian, but I would suggest hiring a solicitor or public notary to check any burdens on the property (multiple owners, inheritance dispute etc).

Such a beautiful area! Used to visit Brasov and Bran quite often and love the area but it’s become more developed than I’d like in the sense property prices are too high. In Harghita, we lived next to a saw mill and used the wood to build a house, greenhouse, etc. Since we didn’t have electricity, there were plans to use the creek to generate electricity but I doubt that ever happened. Can’t wait to return to have another look around.
Very interesting to see these takes. All the best to your guest. Sighet is incredibly beautiful as well.
Great video. The truth is the truth even if it’s sad.
I think we're slowly heading in the right direction now, people are waking up and understanding that they've been played and continue to be played on multiple fronts, we'll see what gives in the US mid terms, that will be pivotal
I couldn't agree more with this man 💯👍👍👍
Yeah, seems a lot of people are thinking like that
I always said Romania will become a retirement destination for a lot of people but nobody believed me. I was walking down the streets in Baia Mare, once a polluted city in the north that now is like a huge park, thinking about its potential. It feels like a city for people retiring with all the youth moving south to Cluj or even Bucharest. Too bad. I was able to do all my shopping in 2 hours while that would take me a couple of days in Cluj. It's a shame my wife's family left a house in ruins there. It could've been a nice holiday home.
Youngsters are making a mistake turning their backs on rural life, this clearly has far greater consequences than anyone could have imagined

It's impossible not to find a bargain when looking for properties, especially in villages or small cities. But you must not buy anything unless a public notary instructs you what you legally need from the seller. You also need to consider especially the cost of connecting with the electricity network in case you don't have already.
Facebook should have pages for expats living in Romania. This should provide more info and experiences plus a feeling of less loneliness that comes in the begging. Luckily, romanians will adopt you pretty fast and they will gladly help you on many things.
Yes, you just need time and patience, once you've decided on an area then it's good to get yourself a base there first before you commit to a property, maybe you realize something you don't like that's not immediately apparent. Also from a power perspective I can tell you at current prices for electricity solar power systems make a whole lot of sense.

We're living in Bucharest right now, originally from Canada, and we'd love to move to the countryside. Two things keep us from making the jump: 1) we're not fluent in Romanian, just at about an A2 level; and 2) we can't buy a property because neither of us are Romanian citizens (yet). Regarding owning property there are several workarounds for that, I, as an Englishman, have the same issue, I can show you what I did, it worked fine since 2004 when I bought my first property. Also you might well be interested in our community cabin project. You can come and visit as and when you wish, succeeding in Romania like most other places is more about who you know.
Regarding the language, it's an advantage but far from essential, English is rapidly becoming a second language here for younger people so I'd not worry about that too much. My Romanian is pretty basic and it's rarely a problem for me and never one I can't solve with a phone call.

I Am romanian living in Florida. After 23 years we decided to move to Romania, in 2010 we built a house in Gheorgheni-Harghita, but we couldn't stay too long because of corruption, the medical system, school system and many others. The roma community people stole my bikes (both Trek, paid over $500 each!) from my back yard, broke my gate and stole the gate too! The police did nothing! Three months after the court house sent me a letter saying that the case was closed because the bikes were under 500! They didn't mention if it is $500 or 500 romanian money! I don't recommend Romania to live in, but for a week vacation it's okay!
Try avoiding touristy or rich areas if you want to buy cheap land, house or an apartment. Everything near Brasov is so desired due to tourists in general, but than again there are towns that are not touristy but because people are generally wealthy (for romanian standards) they cost quite a bit. There are these small towns that lost a good chuck of their population but are near a large town or a city, these places have potential to invest due to low prices on housing estate and the potential of becoming something better, but there's also this work from home trend in recent years and with fast internet, people move further away from the cities.

Very interesting and I must say that I agree with him 100%. Yes, I am interested in being contacted, please. Would you be so kind as to pass along my request to him please, and thank you so much! Be safe and will be looking for more of your videos as well.

You are right. I am American and Romanian and definitely miss my civilization nation founder of European civilization. Yeah, you’re right about both.
thank you :)
I am a Romanian living in both countries ( US & RO) but definitely Romania is way way way better then the US. I miss the cheap ⛽️ and low tax on huge engine
I'm from Zarnesti, the area where this is filmed. If you have money, yes, the place is wonderful, otherwise if you don't have a tourism family own motel or guest house, you're generally beyond poor. Everyone from that city has to commute to Brasov where they do very low income jobs in factories, the commute time and the long factory hours will take a toll on you, and those wonderful mountains will be the last thing you'll see.
From my experience, even if I lived there for 18 years, is that this type of places are suitable for retired people with economies or children as the childhood in those mountains is paradise, but for young adults that want to make something of themselves is the worst place they can be in. I personally moved out to Bucharest, I really like everything in Bucharest, and I go to Zarnesti maybe 10 times per year, but every time I go back, I hike on the mountains on different trails, and I've seen more of the area since I moved out as when I lived there I was mainly stressed by the fact that I'm poor and I have no future.
I think that's more related to what skills you have
A very important think... Romania is a country where you can make fiends, real friends...I can t say the same about Germany where I live...just in case you need friends.😅
Can you connect me with this guy? we have similar interests and I am also looking at Romania.

@@randomromania I'm Romanian! Glad our country is so beautiful. Sorry to ask again but do you know where in Romania?
@@BlueShiftna www.cabanaplaiulfoii.ro/phone/index.html
Oops sorry, there you go :)
It’s Transylvania
It's Romania, around Brasov!
Romanian here living in the US🤣It is good to work and save as much as you can in the US and then retire in Romania. Whoever said opportunities in Romania is not entirely true. You can have a decent life if you work in IT, otherwise, you'll struggle like everyone else in Romania. And don't forget the bribery system, some parts of the country are heavily on bribes, from nurse, to cleaning lady, to mayor and police, they all want a piece.
In the USA is not corruption? How about the medical system where you need to pay everything as is not covered by insurance, how about guns on the streets?
@@mariuspintea8245 I did not say US is better. All I said were facts, as I lived in Romania. Do not paint this beautiful image of the country as everything is perfect in Romania, which is not. As you can see, I just said, save to retire in Romania. And don't forget the diseases you get from many public hospitals. It is nice to live in Romania if you have money. If this wasn't an issue, then many Romanians would stay in their country instead of working in other countries. As for corruption, I was not asked for bribes from my doctors or teachers here in the US, which always happened to me in Romania.
I can tell you haven’t been around for a while, the bribing stories are not that common anymore, especially in the developed cities and parts of the country. People’s views really have to catch up with reality. Similarly, wages went up a lot - in Bucharest the average salary after tax exceeded 1,000 euros which is on parity with most european capitals when you account for the cost of living. Besides, due to the relatively underdeveloped economy, there are a lot of business opportunities which you’ll not get in most western places. So I’d recommend to get yourself a solid update before pointing fingers to Ro.
@@danthebiker07 You're talking about the capital. I was talking in general. Thanks for your unsolicited advice, but I still have my family there. It's been 7 years since I left. The southern part is the only part where you get that wage. Where did you get the 1000euros from? IT? It looks like you haven't been around the country much to know about bribery. As I said in my original comment, living comfortably in Romania is good if you have savings. Otherwise, I can't see how someone working as a teacher or in retail can survive there. There are other issues that I would refrain myself saying on the internet.🤣If it is that good wage, then all Romanians abroad should be home by now, right?
It's not a perfect country, but it is a country with lots of opportunities. There is no such thing as a perfect country on this planet. Maybe they will make it perfect on another planet. Romania is worth a try because you can find your peace.
Welcome to Romania, sir!

To all those considering moving to Romania permanently or for a while...
You guys have nothing to worry about, you will find a country that has all the things you need available.
Romania is not at all behind at this chapter ,you have to keep in mind that communism ended in 89 and and since then Romania received all that the west had to ginve, only problem is the political class, but i mean in it the way that they are incompetent and don't represent the country interests as they should.
However this does not affect that much your capability of living a good or decent life..
All the things in the world can be ordered in Romania via Amazon ,Ebay or various other websites.
When it comes to corruption that we hear so much abot, again it refers to the byg political players, not to the common people !
I would recommend staying in the west ,center and north part of the country ,because the population living there was influenced much heavier be the western values during it's evolution!
Properties can still be found at great prices and the law permits foreigners to own land in Romania.
Just take your time and study the marker and the prices for a while, don't rush into buying although it may seem cheep for some of you and try to buy directly from the owners because an agency may have a shameful added tax.
When it comes to buying land ,again try to buy directly from people and look for simple people not those who buy and sell land often.
Romania is a great country with wonderful nature and people ,if you are willing to help conserve a piece of land that you may call home and get involved into maintaining it as pure as it still is then by all means come to Romania,it wont disappoint you .
Romania is great because of its nature ,purity ,wonderful people ,good property laws , availability of goods and services ,relatively low prices ,constant evolution in the last 30 years.
It's bad because its government no matter the color ,not so great educational system, although better than in most eastern countries ,not so great roads and a stagnant infrastructure on a bigger scale , with many of the branches that involve transportation needing restoration and new investments because they were stagnant for the last 30 years...
good advice and pretty accurate in general :)

I am Romanian, I have never left my country. I was born under communism and lived under that regime for 15 years. The transition is very difficult, people still have a communist mentality, they don't have the courage to be independent.
Our only escape during communism was foreign films and music. The series Dallas influenced us a lot, it was for us, the Romanian communists, the ideal life that we didn't even have the courage to dream of.
Romanians are now building big houses, trying to recover what they lost in those years.
I've always admired the American mentality, maybe that's why I became a farmer and left the city life and the apartment in the grey communist building
You are welcome in Romania, the Romanians want to have among them exemplary people who will teach them what freedom and self-employment mean.
that's a kind message, thank you :)

@@randomromania Unbearable social differencies because of the failed immigration politics, and the lack of a chance to get out of poverty because of the fall of Germanys economy. Romanias economy is flourishing while Germanys declines.

Hopefully, soon enough myself(Brazilian) and my wife (Iasi) will be able to get a piece off land soon and live off grid in Romania.
what's stopping you?
I am Romanian and also have USA citizenship. Currently my residency is in USA. I love my home country Romania and I also love USA the same like my home country. Romania is a beautiful country but the main danger for Romania is that Russia is so close. 😂 My great parents lost their land and house twice during their lifetime ,because was confiscated by the communists that came first from Russia. It is a continuous potential threat that comes from Russia.
Is pity that Romanians are pushed out of the country; meanwhile non-Romanians realise what România really means 💙💛❤️
How are they "pushed out"?
Foreigners here get 1000 euros salary in construction work plus rent plus food, while romanians only get 500 and no rent money or extra food money. Politics made exactly to drive out romanians and to bring others here. Research kalergi :D
@@randomromania really! Definitely, you are not Romanian….
It is a pitty how brain washed are those Romanians ”pushed” out of Romania...
@@randomromania He meant that 5 million Romanians left the country and are working abroad, most of them sending money to their families, this is one of the reasons Romania is what it is today, prosperous and leaving the communism behind :)
I'd look into a sport fishing business. Catch and release is close to a perpetuum mobile, once started it runs by itself.
As a romanian, whom just returned from UK, I still have mixed feelings about the decision, in the meaning that healthcare system is poorly developed and some how the safety on the streets is still an issue which hopefully the authorities will address at some point.
Apart from those I’m quite happy:)
Dude,NHS is 100 times more ridiculous than the famous Romanian healthcare system everyone is eating tones of 💩 about, I worked as a doctor in 6 countries by now! Any public healthcare system on planet is crap, you want quality, you go to private.

Seems a great guy!
Also, what he is saying about US is heartbreaking. We as Romanians look at US with great respect, but in the last years the US (and the west in general) seems to lose it's way, coming closer and closer to this atrocity called socialism/communism. For 50 years we as a country struggled in this "desert" created by this toxic ideology, and now that we managed to survive, it we see our beacon of freedom, succumbs to it.
It's not succumbed just yet ;)
Still a lot of great places to live in the US, especially in the rural areas. People are leaving the crime infested cities in droves. However, if the left complete their takeover of the government things will change rapidly and there will be no place to run to
You do know that Romania is a social democracy, right? We are what the US republicans are scared of.
The democrats in the US are more to the right than most of our political parties, even our right wing ones. We have a huge government, legal abortions, we have a very bloated welfare system, socialized healthcare, state intervention in private business, state owned or partially owned companies, free education kindergarten to highschool and probably around half the spots in state universities are free (the private unis are just not worth mentioning unless you just care to buy a diploma), we don’t have the gun culture they have and the list goes on.
Where we are similar is in religiosity (but not the same branch of christianity, they are mostly reformists) and we are not very open around lgbtq+, but culturally - legally we recognize same sex marriages performed in other countries where it is legal and discrimination is illegal. We also practice censure - CNA, we have freedom of expression which does not trump the fundamental right to personal dignity not freedom of speech and while the two are almost the same, there are nuances.
Our judicial system is mixed leaning more to the french style of inquisitorial while the US one is adversarial.
We are not socialist and not communist anymore (no country is trully communist as that is an utopia - we were socialist even when when under communism), we are a social democracy with a mixed economic system (regulated free market).
If he is coming to Romania to escape the US left, he’s not done his homework properly.
If he is not interested in participating in the political life, he should be fine as culturally we are conservative, but that’s about it.
Hi,
Aren’t you afraid of what is going on here nearby? That can escalate?
not really, there's a rather large mountain range between me and it, there are other reasons too but not willing to discuss here
Yes if you already have some savings it could be a nice place but for young people not much work opportunities. Young Romanians leave with their entire family, while others go abroad alone, to study.
In 2021 over 34,000 people left Romania without having the intention to return. Very nice country with really nice people and I am sure that if the educated young folks return they can make Romania even more appealing.
There is plenty of opportunity here but you need to be a little imaginative
@@randomromania Yes that's true!
What on earth are you talking about?! There are countless opportunities in Romania, and the salaries are quite decent, provided people have the skills. It's an unfortunate attitude of entitlement that the Romanians have embraced, especially the youth, whereby they just expect to be paid without offering skills and hard work in return. How about if you need more money, you upgrade your skills and get another job or an additional parttime job, like everyone else in the West does?! A lot of young people in Canada have 2 jobs just to be able to make mortgage payments.
@@harryp3963 agree 100%
Did you personally asked all the 34,000 people if they have any intention of returning and all of them told you no? 😂
The truth is that most of the Romanians working abroad are investing the money earned there back into Romania, roughly 10-15% at best settling there. The money earned abroad are good when spent in Romania, they are looking most of their power abroad as everything is so much more expensive.
This guy is in Brașov County Area , posible right in Brașov - Romanians are very nice and helpful people if you are nice, good and onest. The guy saying about still box to hold money, this is because POVRRTY if the poverty is reduced no one will have that problem.
How much you need to be considered rich in romania?
depends how you define rich? cost of living here is low in many ways but if you want private jets, yachts etc. that stuff is all the same sort of cost all over europe so not sure what you're asking
