@@LivingIronicallyinEurope the 89 event still is not finished in Romania, and the government knows it, so they thread carefully, few Balkan citizens are ¨patient¨ once big frakup and bye bye Iliescu and his current regime.(yes that fracker is still in power), as demonstrated by the fact that a proven case of war crimes of over 100,000 monsters is blocked from enforcement, proven cases of them opening fire on civilians forcing the army to attempt to defend itself witch then join the civilians, torturing revolutionaries many years after 89 and most importantly falsely claiming revolutionary status when they where the ones that massacred civilians. A cool fact about the water tower in vukovar: as was evident in the video, a flag waves on top of the water tower. During the war, members of the croatian resistance put up a croatian flag, that would be torn up and destroyed every day. But every night, croatian soldiers would climb up, stitch up the flag and put it back up. It’s a very cool story and i’m not doing it justice in this short comment.
That siege of Sarajevo video is haunting. Having to run away from sniper fire with your child by your side. Damn!
For real!
I mean I can´t get my head around how a Sniper, somebody who really has the time to aim and choose Targets, shoots at obviously civiliance.
Unbelievable.
I am so glad I live in 21th century Europe.
Well they mostly aimed for male adults but sometimes you miss, sometimes it bounces and goes the wrong way.. Then there were soldiers whose families, wife, kids, parents got slaughtered by the muslim forces so they would just shoot at anything to get their revenge.. Not that I aprove, I find it wrong.. Siege of Sarajevo and shelling of Dubrovnik is something I didnt like even back in the day and I found it just wrong.
Vukovar was a battlefield, unfortunately, and as an urban battlefield was shelled by all sides since the city changed hands God knows how many times, sometimes even during a single day. They would shell each others areas and so on.. Unfortunate 90s all together.
Croats should have been a bit more patient and tactical while we had a complete idiot with an idea to become the next Tito..
Most of population had no desire for war, had no ambitions for any Great Serbia but just to live their lives in peace and prosperity.. But like with everything in life, the dumbest are the loudest..
Took us good 10 years to get rid of the moron but now relations are just poisoned. Shame.. We had a good thing going..
Perhaps we unite again under EU. Not that anyone needs it, since we are all proud, but it is more practical to move without problems, have more holiday options, larger market ectr.. And despite every country claiming they speak their own language, we all speak the same. Difference is smaller than the difference in english in New York when compared to Texas.
So yeah..
In the end we all got fucked, bosnians got pulled towards sheriah politics that have no place in europe and something they themselves dont want, croats got pulled into nazi history, something most of them are ashamed of, and us serbs got pulled into the great serbia ideas, something we just dont want and we dont see ourselves as jerks and bullies but as kind and helpfull people.
@@warhund I agreee with most of what you wrote, but still...
How do you mean Bosnians got pulled towards sharia politics? Because that's definitely not the case. Some people choose to live with more religious life, according to Islam, and some don't. No one forces anyone to do something they won't like to do.
And how do you mean Croats got pulled into Nazi history, when the country did everything to distance itself from Nazi/Ustaša regime? Croatian government officially recognized Ustaša regime atrocities, put in effect laws which prevent glorification of the regime, and even officially apologized to Serbian people, in front of the Serbian parliament. Even if that wasn't truly necessary, because not all Croatians were a part of the regime. Actually, most of Croatians were against it. The first partisan resistance in occupied Europe even started in Croatia. But Croatian government still did that just for the sake of future peace.
@@damyrMuslim part of Bosnia is a breeding ground for mujahideen and a lot of Arab nations sent Islamists to fight for Bosnia. And Croatia in no way apologized for the atrocities they commited. They celebrate Oluja and have parades for it. Only reason the first partisan actions started in Croatia is because the Serbs that were living in Croatia started them. The majority of partisans were Serbs. They even are proud of expunging Serbs from the parts of Croatia where they lived for centuries.
@@gospodbogisushristos3302 That's factually incorrect and it's proven... Serbs joined partisans only later in larger numbers... most partisan in Croatia that were fighting against the occupation regime were all Croats....under the command of Croatian communist party....

Not so fun fact about the girl on the picture at 8:37 :
The picture of the girl with sub-machinegun was taken by Vagn Hansen Danish photographer sometime at the end of October to the 1st of November 1956, was the then 15 years old Szeles Erika Kornélia.
Later, she joined the Red Cross, because she was told she was too young to fight.
When the picture became the cover for the Danish newspaper Billed Bladet on the 13th of November, she was allready dead, shot by Russians multiple times and killed, on the 7th of November while trying to save an injured comrade of hers, wearing white coat and Red Cross markings.

Of iconic Balkan stories, there's really only two that stand out as special and deserving of their own videos. The tale of Sarajevo's Romeo and Juliet, of Admira and Boško - the two lovers from opposing sides who didn't care for divisions and who now rest for eternity together; and the story of Vesna Vulovic. You can actually probably contact a relative of Vesna's for more, it's her nephew - her nephew is Aleksa from the channel Boy Boy.

Another significant and important Romanian picture is our military in Budapest, after the Hungarians tried to take over Transylvania. As a Dutchman, definitely by far the most famous photo (and video) material is Karremans being forced to drink Rakija by Ratko Mladić. Such a painful and powerless moment, and his face clearly shows it. He was also scolded by him, after making some remarks about a piano player, and there is also material of Dutch and Serbian soldiers dancing and drinking together (another painful moment..), but Karremans and Mladić drinking together is by far the most memorable and famous here.
Forced, lol. Please, these dutch soldiers were happy that they got out alive. Besides, enough Dutch soldiers saw that the whole situation was NOT black and white over there, so not only one side was a bad side. And on top of that you can not blame those Dutch kids, which what they were. They went into military 'want spannend en avontuur' but got involved into a civil war which has been cooking up for centuries between Muslims and Christians.

The most famous balkan photo voted just recently during a photography contest is the man with sickle taken during NATO agresion on Jugoslavia
Did I hear the MFing Frieren theme song in the background when he was talking about Kosovo!?
I am surprised that the Ethnarch, Napoleon Zervas (and by some extension EDES) weren't featured in most popular photos for Hellas.
