Serbia & Albania are two Balkan countries that are known for having a complicated history with one another. When discussing the Serbo-Albanian relations most assume that the bad blood between them is due to the 1999 Kosovo War, however, while that does play a role in the current tensions between the two peoples, the history of the Serbs & Albanians is much longer and detailed.

I feel like this video missed the whole "Where did Serbians come from" question. There wasn't any mention of Slavic migration, which is important to understand in the scheme of things. Explaining the way in which Albanian language has no relatives is important to understanding that Albanians originate from that region, where as the Serbian language being Slavic and heavily related to every other slavic language is also important to understanding their migration to the region. Also, Albanians did heavily suffer under the Ottomans, our resistance to them is heavily present in our culture and music especially to northern Albanians of Malesia so I wish that was mentioned as well. Otherwise good video.

@@albundy1767 Correction it's 1.25 million..but by 1980s standard I don't think RPSH army is with the standard anymore as Albanian Military lacks of New modern equipment..most of their arsenal are from 40s 40s 60s or early 70s.while Yugoslav army has modern M-84 tank Albania still stuck with Type 59..while Yugoslav with new fighter jet like J22 Orao,Mig21 and mig29 Albania only have small amount of J7 Fighter aircraft with large number of old J6A and J5 Fighter aircraft..that is just one sector..goes to Air Defense system Albania only had S2 Dvina as SAM no Mid range SAM neither shot range SAM..Albanian army also didn't have ATGM technology until early 1990..before that Albanian army only depend of Recoilless rifle as anti tank weapon with RPG...there's a lot of thing to be considered

I must say i am amazed by the way you have summarized this topic. There are bad people but there are not bad nations. As an albanian i think we should all let go of our past, the political propaganda, and the nationalist propaganda of both sides, and just have a fair and a happy relation between us.
political propaganda is also that there are no Serbs in Pristina of 40000, no in Peć, no in Kosovo Polje, no in Urosevac, Obilic, all Serbs were bad so they were expelled and killed, places were ethnically cleansed, when your killings were small, you demolished and burned churches to tell now that they are your churches but you should let go of the past and if your evils are still great, Albanians and Serbs live in northern Mitrovica, but in South Mitrovica there are no Serbs like that... As a Serbian, I have never heard that we were ever natives to Balkans, we learned in school that we came in 6th or 7th and started mixing with locals, so Byzanzine allowed us a land while being afraid of union between Slavs and already existing tribes or whatever. It is known that Balkans believe in conspiracy theories, but this is me first time hearing about this
All northern Balkan Slavic countries have a mixture of natives, which are less % and majority of Slavs that migrated in 6-7 AD.
As an Serbian I am 77% Balkan DNK, 20% east europe, 2-3% west europe and 1% middle east. Something not clear? Nothing about coming in 6th or 7th from elsewhere to balkan....nada!

I2a1b-L621 is Slavic DNA group, which became part of the Balkan make-up DNA after the migration of Slavs in 6-9 AD, cause this group has not been found in ancient remains. Anyone else who falls under the haplogroups that have been found here before this time are the natives who mingled with Slavs or were Slavicized linguistically like the Illyrians, Thracians and Dacian(Gaetan).

This branch is found overwhelmingly in Slavic countries. Its maximum frequencies are observed among the Slavs (Slovenes, Croats, Bosniaks, Serbs, Montenegrins and Macedonians) as well as in Bulgaria, Romania, Moldavia, western Ukraine and Belarus. It is also common to a lower extent in Albania, Greece, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, and south-western Russia. I2-L621 (L147.2+). its easy. The ottoman's were not ethnic cleansing the balkans, they were taxing you more. You get the age of nations and you can not draw a clear line in the sand. Some people and states are more buttheads than others and you end up with Kosovo. It would be identical in Romania since Stalin artificially created the Hungarian enclave by moving more ethnic hungarians around in the middle of nowhere just to 'encourage' the 'struggle between peoples' (totally not a nazzi thing hurhur). Obviously other than politic spinning of some hate nothing major happened as at the local level people live normally among themselves. We do not mind different people, we hate thieves and aggressors.

I remember how during Serbo-Albanian war (or maybe after right after it ended, I don't remember that well), two fairly large groups of Serbian and Albanian immigrants (moving towards western Europe) meet by coincidence in my city, almost immediately they started threatening and curing each other, things got so out of controle that several police squads had to be dispatched to calm the down.

@@tomgu2285 Kosovo Albanians don't have a problem with Serbia being anti Islam though, as Albanian identity does not have heritage and nor is invested in religion. Albanians respect only the Abrahamic principle of the three religions they adhere to; Islam (inc. Bektashi), Catholic and Orthodox. They're are seen as a personal matter of people connecting life to God and afterlife. That's it. It plays no role in our culture.

As an Albanian I'm very pleased that everything you sad was quite accurate. You were quite neutral in your narration and that was a suprise to me.
The only thing that you sad and I was quite surprised is the incident during world war 1, when the Serbian army escaped through Albania and was attacked by mountain tribe in a guerrila warfare. This was a shock to me. I never knew anything about this. In our history this fact is completely ignored.
From my understanding it was based on tribal(clan?) lines mostly, some clans were hostile some were helpful/neutral.

As a serb I have so many similar instances. I never knew anything about the ethnic cleansing of Albanians by Serbia during ottoman empire. We never learned about this in history either

Serbs are culturally Slavic. Genetically when they hit the Balkans or Roman Empire they mixed with Romans or the people Romans mixed with Thracians, Illyrians, and Dacians.
As a Croatian I agree. We are Slavic though some may have mixed with Latins or whomever Latins mixed with knowing Romans conquered Thracians, Dacians, and Illyrians. Some not sure what percentage. Majority of us are Slavic.

Regarding my country, Albania, between 1966 and 1991, Something very interesting happened... the communist regime banned all the religions, demolished most of our churches, and mosques... in order to reset our mindset. That worked, I'm not saying, is a good thing to do, but that worked. In 1992, I was only a child, and I never heard about God before when my neighbour gave me a picture of Jesus Christ and told who He was. Obviously, that picture is still with me.

As an American I'm proud to say my first vacation outside of the US was to Albania, regardless of what arrogant westoids in Berlin and Paris may say it was a lot more beautiful than either of those places and a lot cheaper. Great people with great culture that they're proud of, something the world today needs more of. The Balkans are the jewel of Europe in terms of culture and tradition, patriotic religious communities who understand their history and seek to preserve it. I will be visiting again one day, same with Kosovo which i also visited 🇺🇸 ❤️ 🇦🇱 🇽🇰

Korean and Vietnamese history for thousands of year has been about "survival as a people and NOT becoming Chinese" despite using Chinese characters/following confucianism, being highly influenced by China etc. etc. Same with Japan and Korea and China vs. Taiwan. Therefore today we have these petty arguments about what is food is Korean, is it 'korean new year" or "Chinese new year". Is "Korean martial arts Japanese influenced" or is "okinawan martial arts" really "Chinese influenced". Is Dokdo island Korean or Japanese? Are the Senkaku Islands Chinese/Taiwanese or Japanese. You can find nationalists fight tooth and nail about every little thing because the other side might use their political clout to officially. claim something via UNESCO or some official channels. The only people that I've personally encountered who come close to this level of pettiness in bickering are Balkans people, Turks vs. Greeks and East Asians
and even tough Russia had a longer Imperialist legacy, Japan outgrew them in maturity given current Korean peninsula status quo.
