    In this video we discuss the historical events that led up to Serbia becoming Russia's #1 fan and supporter. We discuss the suffering under the Ottomans, and the Russo-Turkish/ Russo-Ottoman wars that also strengthened this relationship all the way to modern day events taking part in Ukraine.

    As a Serbian, I was amazed by how I felt right at home in Moscow, even though it's a huge city unlike anything we have in Serbia. Slovakia felt very much like home too and Poland was close but the language was a little more difficult to understand. The real kicker is the feeling in Romania and Greece, though, the language is clearly very different, yet you feel so comfortable, welcome, and free.

    You forgot many important historical figures that connect Serbia and Russia. Certainly one of the most important was the Tsar of Russia, Ivan IV Vasilyevich known as the Terrible. His grandmother on his mother's side and his great-grandmother on his father's side were Serbian. Tsar Ivan took Serbian monasteries under protection from the Turks and stopped the seizure of monastery property. He played a huge role in preserving the Serbian identity, culture, language and church. He and his brother sent large gifts to Serbian monasteries. At his request, the Serbian rulers and Saints, Saint Simeon, Saint Sava and Prince Lazar were painted in the Church of the Holy Archangels in Moscow. The Serbian monk Lazar Hilandarac from Prizren who made and installed the first public clock in the world in Moscow, the Kremlin and Pachomius the Serb (hagiographer and translator) were some of the notable Serbs in Russian medieval history beside Ivan. Count Rajevsky, after whom Tolstoy wrote the character of Count Vronsky from Anna Karenina, was a volunteer in Serbia in the war against the Ottomans and died there, he said that if he died, his body would be taken to Russia (today's Ukraine, which was then Russia, where it is still today ) and he left his heart in Serbia (there is a beautiful church in a unique mix of Serbian and Russian style in Aleksinac which is his mausoleum built by his sister). There are also many Russian famous writers who loved and wrote about Serbia. Generals of Serbian origin played a significant role in the defense of Russia against Napoleon, such as Mihajlo Andrejević Miloradović, Đorđe Arsenijević Emanuel, Jovan Stepanović Adamović, Jovan Jegorović Šević, Nikola Bogdanović Bogdanov, Nikola Ivanović de Preradović, Ilija Mihailović Duka, Nikola Vasiljević Vujić, Avram Petrović Ratkov, Petar Jovanović Ivelić and many others, and of course Count Sava Vladislavić Raguzinski, Tekelija and Zmajevići. Of course, there are still plenty of people both Serbian and Russian who cannot fit into one comment.

      @@AA-777-AA yes, big time. Rent is skyrocketing, usually doubled and in some places even tippled. With an avg salary you can barely afford living in a 30m2 in the outskirs of the city. A lot of small businesses have closed down since they can't afford the increased rent. Students are in a lot of trouble since Belgrade was already expensive for many parents from the other parts of Serbia and many students now cannot afford going to studies.
      The Russians that come are usually rich so suddenly there is a new high middle class and with the ongoing inflation the lower class is becoming even poorer - the buying power of Russians is higher so the prices are slowly adjusting to that.
      The infrastructure was already weak and now cracks begin to show - for example there is a lack of public transport drivers so the gov has issued a batch of new drivers from Sri Lanka.
      The energy crisis is worse since there's more people that need the energy - Serbia pays a lot of money for importing electricity and it's even harder to cut the ties with Russia, especially now in the winter.
      Overall, Serbian populist gov has made only populist moves in the past so they didn't invest in making the country more stable, they only focus on immediate affairs and damage control and with the influx of people this lack of investment is making the overall state of things crack and crumble in a lot of ways.

    Actually the battle of Kosovo is considered a strategic tie as it destroyed most of the ottoman army as well as their ruler. This caused a multi year break in their conquest which allowed the rest of Europe to prepare their armies and block further advances of the ottomans into the Balkans.

    • @nyalarhotep
      @nyalarhotep Před 6 měsíci +2

      It was an utter defeat of the Ottoman army. It was celebrated in Europe, it is proclaimed everywhere as such, the Florentine letters show it, Vlatko Vukovic returned to Bosnia with the news of Ottoman defeat to Tvrtko`s court... The reason that Stefan Lazarevic entered alliance with Ottomans (conquest actually came in 1459), was that the Serbian army suffered great losses as well, that the rift between houses of Brankovic and Lazarevic emerged, and that the Hungary was preparing invasion of Lazarevic`s lands with support of house of Brankovic. That is what put Brankovic later as the "Kosovo traitor" in poetry, altough the wing of Brankovic was deciding factor in Kosovo battle victory. Not A SINGLE contemporary source ever mentioned a "strategic tie" let alone Ottoman victory. The first record of "Ottoman victory" is from 16th century by Constantine the Janissary. The whole epic cycle of Serbian oral poetry was political propaganda created either by Lazarevic`s court or more probably, Turks themselves. And than you`ve got the only man who was sworn enemy of the Turks until the end depicted as a biggest traitor, than you have the most loyal Turkish vassal Marko Mrnjavcevic depicted as a greatest Serbian hero, than you have Turk Musa Kesedzija depicted as a greater hero than the greatest Serbian hero, you have the murder of Murat depicted as an act of deception and trickery by Milos Obilic although the contemporary sources say he died during the early charge of the Serbian heavy cavalry, and so on and so on......

    It is a fact that mostly thanks to Romania or better said newly formed Romania that the Russo-Turkish War in 1877 was a Russian victory and thanks to Romania Serbia achieved independence that soo many don't know about it. In the beginning of the Russo-Turkish war in 1877 the newly formed Romania didn't join the war but allowed the Russian army to move through Romania into Bulgaria but Russia was losing in the Balkan front so Romania joined and helped Russia at the Siege of Plevna which was an allie Victory. If it wasn't for Romania Russia would have lost and Serbia wouldn't have achieved independence. Eternal love and friendship 🇷🇴❤🇷🇸💪

      @@nullussum2535 That's not actually true. Russia was actually extremely weakened after the Crimean War. Russia was dealing with weak economy, corruption and a war that it was losing in the Balkans. If Russia would have lost Siege of Plevna, the whole campaign would have been devastated as that was Russias main army at the Siege. Romania saved the War at that moment when Carol the First joined which usually people attend to put the Siege of Plevna as a Russian victory which is actually not the case....

    И правду миру вновь покажет Божество:
    Христос был на кресте, страдал и был в могиле,
    Но там и показал Он Правды торжество.
    Из гроба Он воскрес и радость Воскресенья
    Зажег в сердцах людей, как солнце в небесах,
    И в касках воины от страха и смятенья,

  • @surbia
    @surbia Před rokem +10

    I am a Serb, we and the Russians have always had brotherly relations.
    Ukrainians are Russians who have been turned into anti-Russians by ideologies from Western Europe. Ukraine means "border territory" for both Russians and Serbs (Remember Republic of Serbian Krajina), so that name cannot be the name of a nation.
    Lenin created Ukrainian SSR and a non-canonical church for that SSR, and then the Bandera ideology of the Greek-Catholics from Galicia spread in that area.
    When a Slav accepts the papal faith, he automatically becomes an enemy of his origin.
    Russians in Galicia, as soon as they recognized the Pope - became haters of Russia.
    This is also the essence of the conflict between Russians and Poles, then Serbs and Croats, etc.
    It is interesting that the socialist ideologies from Germany - Communism and Nazism - had similar goals as far as breaking Russians and Serbs into smaller "toponym-nations".
    The equivalent of the Ukrainian nation among the Russians is the Montenegrin nation among the Serbs.
    And throughout history, the Germans have been prominent representatives of papal interests.
    The EU is the successor of the Holy Roman Empire,
    So this war is part of the old civilizational conflict between the nations that arose under the influence of the Roman Church, on the one hand, and the Orthodox Slavs, on the other.

    I love the Serbs the way they are. Everything is simple. We have a lot in common. We helped them, they helped us.
    And there was not always a rational grain in this, from the standpoint of big politics. What is the act of Mikhail Grigorievich Chernyaev worth. He went against the will of the government, but in the interests of Russians and Serbs, for which he was revered in both countries, but fell into disfavor with Russian diplomats who wanted peace with the Turks. (I refer to the article Panslavism in Practice: Chernyaev in Serbia (1876) by David MacKenzie)
    And in terms of the cold politics of the big world, we are two nations with close cultures and common adversaries. This has happened historically. As it always happens.
    Our peoples have long tended to each other. And I think it's God's will.
    God bless you, Brothers.
