John...Great video. As a marine surveyor/CG Marine inspector for over 40 years I was convinced the only aluminum boats that belonged in salt water were the ones that were trailered. The damage salt water does to aluminum that is allowed to sit in it was often devastating. You need to come to North Kakalacky where the limit for flounder is no fish of any size for the foreseeable future. Of course there are times when fishing for speckled trout/redfish I've seen people catch the elusive "North Atlantic Halibut" that often ends up in a cooler!

Sometimes think you just have the midas touch John. Out of 91 fluke last Wednesday in the area, not one made it over the line. Love my welded aluminum, only wish I switched sooner.

Thanks for all the videos John. I was out this weekend off Ft. Salonga and there was a cinderworm spawn. They were everywhere. Any tips for fishing for fluke during this? Fished a good 8 hours with not much to show for it. Was I wasting my time. Bass all around me as well but I didn't bother throwing much at them as I never found success with those either during a hatch/spawn.

The answer, besides a PFD is wearing a Dry Suit. The only thing that will keep you warm long enough to survive.

I have paddled thousands of miles in conditions like this, and most of them solo. It is all to be seen on my channel. Although it can be a bit considered as "walking the red line", if you really know what you're doing it is not ridiciously dangerous. However, what the guy in this videos does is nothing less than stupid.

Never wear waders in a boat

Makes me appreciate my Jackson Kilroy at 75 pounds it’s still flippable, I prefer the sit in kayaks personally because I feel more stable plus it is a stable kayak anyway not to say it would of flipped in those situations, I have seen deep water recovery videos but the cold plus the actual act of flipping not just practicing must of been very stressful.

Will that mouth holder come off the fish automatically or will the fish die?

How often do you utilize a drift sock? Do you ever use one on your boat? With the current and wind in LIS it’s often hard to stay on bottom.

Not so much hypothermia which comes later. The trouble breathing is due to the cold water shock. You need a drysuit and PFD.

I used to have some friends laugh when I wore my pfd even in waist deep water. I would tell them it was so that when I paddled in deep water or on a river that I was used to wearing it and did not feel uncomfortable and hindered. Wear a PFD.

To me the thing he, was not watching the crest and trough. He allowed his kayak to ride sideways into the trough which as I could see it, helped capsize his craft. I think in this weather (which I personally LOVE to fish in) there should be some outriggers that can be swung out when you get into troubled water where you get possibly swamped. I have them for my canoe. You cannot sink it.

Awesome work like always man! I’ve been fishing the sound for years and years now and would love to get more into the fluke bite. I often head to Truman beach to anchor and swim. I recall catching fluke in the bay as a youngin with my father. What type of bottom contour or structure do you look for when finding new spots? I’m assuming you know the area! Haha

If you are going to be fishing alone in water that cold, I would be a far more substantial kayak and be wearing a dry suit (The type cold water SCUBA divers use). Or at least a Mustang Survival cold water commercial fishing grade float coat. Anything else is rolling the dice with the grim reaper.

Did the fish survive?

I have a far superior kayak, top notch safety gear, etc and I still would not be ANYWHERE near that water in those dangerous conditions
