    Thank you, John, for showing the reel speed and the pick ups once the bucktail hits the bottom. Since I couldn’t see the splash of your lure, I could only surmise where you casted, and where the strike came. Would it be possible to show an X on one cast and one hit occurred? Your videos are so educational. Thank you for sharing your years of knowledge with the fishing community.

    That current really rips through that area. We've caught Stripers in the Chesapeake Bay on the bottom using that technique of bounce once or twice on the bottom, raise the rod and reel in slack and keep repeating. On the other side of that inlet is a point with a rip also.

    When it comes to fishing small inlets like this (relative to ocean inlets) do you prefer incoming or outgoing? Or it does not matter as long as there is current.

    Nice videos. I will be fishing for Fluke and slot strippers this season. I am new and asked for a Skinner rod for a Mother’s Day present but When we got to Dick’s we became overwhelmed with the choices. So I ask; Is there one rod that will jig and bounce for legal fluke and also reel in slot stripers?

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Absolutely this rod. bit.ly/3QsR6ch It's the rod I use for fluke in the ocean and Peconic Bay, but also the rod I use in Plum Gut for big stripers.

    • @TamponTea
      @TamponTea Před 2 měsíci

      make sure you get the right rod you have spinning reels and bait casting reels. the guides on the rod are much smaller on a casting rod vs spinning rod. if your new stay away from bait casting rods and reels. look up some videos on youtube.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  Před 2 měsíci

      I don't know why you would say that about casting vs spinning. There is much better depth control with a baitcaster, especially if the reel has a thumb bar or flipping switch. I use a baitcaster 95% of the time for fluke, and most of the time for larger bass.

    • @kasey7303
      @kasey7303 Před 2 měsíci

      This link led me to the blue casting rod. That is probably where I am confused, because I also like bait caster reels. Are you suggesting that I should attach a Bait caster reel to the this casting rod? That would make me happy. I just didn’t know that if people do that.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think I understand the confusion. These rods labeled "casting" as opposed to "spinning", are really not used to cast with. They are meant for up and down boat or kayak fishing. Actual casting is done with a spinning rod. It's the way rod manufacturers label stuff, and I see how it can confuse. "Conventional" would probably be a better way to list it, but this is rarely done with these lighter rods. FWIW, I use baitcaster reels for fluking, but never actually cast them.

      @JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks... God may bless you..... you don't know how much we respect you for your great service of imparting and sharing voluntarily the fishing knowledge... I need to ask two things which were a sort of confusion...
      1. in your book you referred gliding bucktail along the bottom with occasional twitching on sany beaches with slow to moderate retreive... I see your rod tip dipping and not twitching upwards... I wonder if you could kindly advise exactly what happens there in retreive sequence.
      2. On jetties... for weights less than 2 ounces.... you told I cast.. let the bucktail settle a bit and then start slow retreive..... I want to ask can you give indicators as how long to wait before starting retreive... I mean do you tap bottom to get the retreive start or what to specifically do there. Thanks once again and your kind guidance to above two points will be highly appreciated.

    “If you’re catching don’t change what you’re doing”?? I’ve been watching you fish for YEARS and hundreds of times I’ve seen you “catching” and then just scoot away and motor off to do something different. I don’t get it…it’s extremely unrealistic to expect to “catch” every sing cast or most times, every ten minutes for the majority of anglers.
