- I fished 4 docks within a couple hundred feet of each other and almost all of the fish were under the same dock. What was special about the dock? Online Fishing Course Discounts - www.saltstrong.com/skinner

Fantastic video as always
I wanted to let you know the baerskin 3.0 hoodie and sweatpants arrived, and after putting it on, immediately ordered the matching vest. Also another sweatpants . The material is thick and very warm. i am very pleased and have recommended it to anybody that will listen. Also the pockets have another liner of very tough material and no issues as far as losing any keys or wallet, it is well built. Thanks again for recommending this product on your show!
I'm not surprised you like it. You see I'm wearing it in this video and I have plenty of other jackets I could be wearing.
John - I moved from up north to Stuart in 2009 and fishing was quite good. I lived on the Lost River which feeds into the South fork of the St Lucie. My boat was in the water behind my house and fishing was reasonably good. As each year passed and the water dumping increased, the water quality decreased. It began to get tough and I found myself running farther and farther north on the IRL to find find fish. By 2012 or 13, I was running all the way up to Fort Pierce and beyond to find clean water and some fish. I was spending more time running than fishing. In 2016 I quit, sold the boat and moved up to Vero beach. I decided to go back to my land and wade fishing past and all was well. Water quality up here has also deteriorated, grass beds gone, turbidity increasing and marine algae, both macro and micro, increasing. These marine ecosystems are basically very strong and resilient but we beat them up at a faster rate than they can recover. By the way, I'm a retired marine biologist and have a pretty decent understanding of how these things function and respond to stress. I feel that we have passed the tipping point and I will never see an improvement in my life time. I hope that the west coast of FL has a better chance of rebounding with a lot of help on our part. It's a very difficult set of conditions.
Thanks you so much for taking the time to give such a thorough response. I'm only on my 5th winter here, so I don't have the history to look back on in SW Florida, and I know nothing about the East Coast of Florida. I can say that I feel the fishing is quite good here most of the time. It's only since they started dumping the water in a few weeks ago where I'm putting in a long day for 10-15 fish (snook, reds, trout). The water is definitely dirtier now. Yesterday I put in a 9-hour trip and caught zero trout. I don't target them specifically, but I usually get some big ones as welcomed by-catch. Ironically it was one of my best redfish trips of the winter. I suspect that the trout aren't as tolerant of the crappy water, since I've seen they're the first gamefish to die when we've had red tide. I'm told the fishing used to be much better. It must have really been something. Thanks again.
I wish that was true, I am in st Pete and with Pitney point it has gotten worse in the last ten years, I hope someday people wake up
Very sad to hear. I live in New Jersey but I have fond memories of fishing docks in Stuart Florida on the Indian river as a kid; caught more species of fish than I care to list. That was in the early 2000’s.
main cause is fertilizer run off - army corp of engineers ruined the natural drainage of lake okeechobee through the everglades in the 70's by building all these canals. then development just made it worse and worse. people fertilizing lawns in the summer when they dont even live there, its gotten rediculous
Awesome fishing trip!!
Love your vids skinner been watching for a while now
Down In Florida normally those newer docks don’t hold many fish yet and with those low winter tides they push off the docks a little and sometimes will catch em on the outside of those docks at the low tide
Nice fishing man, loved it 👍! Keep them awesome videos coming 💯! Got here new subscriber fisherman from Kazakhstan 😉🖐
Almost full moon!
I’m up in Matlacha. Good highs been later lately
Hi John, great video as usual.. I'm using 1/0 hook with cone weight to fish venice jetty for sheepshead.. It's a bit cheeper than snapper jigs..
Thanks. These Hurricane Snapper jigs were 5 in a package for $2.89 at Pine Island Bait and Tackle.
Been a fan for a while. Bought some bucktails and use your method to catch fluke in SW Florida. You have to be close to by place because Ian went through us the 19 months ago. I am coming down in second week of April and will buy either the red or blue rod. Was wondering if Sheepshead will be still around and if not what fish gets hot in April. Thanks for all the info.
April a little late for sheepshead, but excellent for snook and reds, and tarpon will become more plentiful too.
Ok great, thank you for response. Is the red rod better for casting and the blue rod better for jigging? What weedless hook would you use with soft plastics on flats and weeds?
Mantap..ikan nya besar sekali👍
Hey John just got the EPDL how do you like it??
Do you have a link to those hooks? They look like they have a longer shank that what I’ve found.
Do you use a swivel between the leader and main line when sheepshead fishing? Thank you for sharing your experience
Yes.
Hey John when you gonna go back up north for striper and obviously flounder in may
End of April when the North Fork stripers heat up.
John, I will be heading to captiva in 2.5 weeks . Will the sheepshead still be around?
Maybe some, but there will be better fishing for snook/reds/trout, and tarpon will be around!
Hey John you might have gotten this it did not show up on my end but how do your like the EPDL I just got one and waiting for the Weather to get better to try out.......
Really awesome. Speed, range, easy to stand up and sit down and fish standing. Seamless in and out of electric. I didn't use my skiff for 6 weeks after getting it.
If you could choose just one kayak, would you choose this kayak or the one with the Minnkota? I enjoy your videos and always learning something new. Thank you!
For up North I want the Old Town Autopilot with the spot lock. Down here in the shallows I like being able to pedal quietly, so the Old Town ePDL.
hey john any thoughts on the spinning fish stuff going on in the keys?
Wow. I just googled it. I hope they figure it out.
It looked like you went between White and Orange for the Sheepshead Jig. Did you find that one worked better than the other? Thanks for the video as always, Good stuff.
I don't think color matters.
John have you ever tried the Ikejime method of bleeding fish? It supposedly makes the fish taste better and last longer in the fridge. It's like dry aging a steak from what im told.
I've not tried.
Hey John i heard if u use pro cure on your live fiddlers it helps the bite what do u think.
I see no need to add scent to live bait.
Hi John when will you come back to New York
End of April when striper fishing heats up on the North Fork.
Hey skinner, big fan! I’m currently in south east Florida from NJ and I can’t find any bait shops that sell fiddler crabs. Can you please give me the name of the bait shop so I can finally catch a sheaphead thank you !
I got mine at D&D in Matlacha.
Hi there, love your videos. What jig are you using? I’m just a rookie, thank you.
I'll add this link to the video description. amzn.to/3TIfFWV
Thank you very much.
Are those fiddlers hard to keep alive? Do you target blacks on the island in April?
@@pastapaul150 I kept some alive for a few days by keeping them cool and damp. I don't fish blacks in the spring. When I get back from Florida it's striper time.
So thats very similar to blackfishing up here in New England?
You ever fish Rhode Island?
It's exactly the same as jig fishing for blackfish - maintain contact with the jig, not pressure. Wait through the little bites and don't set the hook until the fish is swimming away with the jig and you feel that steady movement. Of course the environment is wildly different, but the jig technique is exactly the same.
@JohnSkinnerFishing very cool!
Thanks for responding!
I’m spending the month of February 2025 in Marathon! Bringing my Big Water. Can’t wait!
Good plan!
When are you coming back to Long Island Skinner? !!!!
Late April when it's worth leaving tarpon for North Fork stripers.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing lol ok good
East coast has dirty water because of releases.
Thanks. Hope they stop soon.
The real reason there were no fish at the other 3 docks is because I was fishing there, lol. Once you got on your own it was John Skinner fishing.
Geez, and I was thinking depth, barnacle growth, current... and I never thought to blame you!
Awesome. Do you think the fish bleed out better in water or just as good without?
They seem to bleed out just fine in a cooler, just more messy.
🤣🤣🤣 55degreese 🤣🤣🤣. It’s cold 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
