Your fund of knowledge as to tides, currents, and wind is almost paralleled by your ability to catch fish and your soft-spoken talent for teaching others how they might catch fish. Thank you.

For the last two years I've used windy to plan kayak trips. I've found situations where the multiple different models used to come up with the 'default' windy forecast tends to lean towards the more extreme forecasts. If the majority of the models underlying the default prediction project fair weather, and only one is bad, I've typically gone on the trips and had no issues. When the majority of the windy models are bad, catch up on sleep :)

My wife says she should put "he doesn't have to worry about which way the wind blows anymore" on my tombstone. It's mostly fishing for me, but also marine mammal observation and bird watching, so it's a year-round obsession for me in RI.
I keep weather logs for nature observation as well as fishing logs, and I noticed that this year we are having regular days of S or SSW when the forecast was W. This setup will not be good for CT/RI if a tropical system is coming up the coast, and we are statistically overdue for trouble. Heads up later this summer is advised, and good luck to all. Great post, glad to know there are other wind fanatics out there, I have been using Windfinder for a long time and Windy as well the past several years.

As a long time aluminum boat guy (17' Discovery for many years, now a 23 Pacific) I get the wind thing. Aluminum is strong but light relative to wood and glass. Wind forecast is crucial as I fish in places that also are deeply affected by wind like Buzzards Bay. Great video!

I’ve been using the free versions of Windfinder and windy on my iPhone and iPad, along with wind conditions wave height and frequency is very important to me, I trailer a long distance to fish the same waters you do, and it’s very disappointing to arrive and find white caps.I haven’t seen much conflicting information. As far as rigs, I’m certainly nobody to make suggestions to you, I’m not a big fan of treble hooks, and don’t like getting $12 buck tails stuck, so I’ve been trying three way rigging 2oz Mojo’s, I have friends that fish Huntington area that catch many 40lbs bass on them. I really appreciate this year’s videos, I’m learning much more from you, thanks very much.

Thanks for the content John. I use the National Weather Service Marine Forecast as well as The Weather Channel App for my fishing forecast. I agree with you tho, certain forecasts are inaccurate and you have to make an average out of what you see to form a decision. Especially with the wind. The windy app is good also

Been using a combination of Buoyweather, windy, and the NOAA forecast for kayak fishing for a couple years now. Generally ere on the conservative side, but like you said also depends on wind combined with tide direction to make the best choice.

John, use the compare feature and look for alignment.
    ECMW is the Euro model.
    GFS is North American model.
    Icon is German
HRRR and NAM are short range models that are updated about 36 to 72 hours out - intended to be more accurate.
They often update the forecasts with new data around 6-7pm EST, which I believe is 00z (Zulu time) in weather talk.

When I go out front (to the ocean) I will only go out with 2' or less waves which is usually a calm wind 5 MPH or less. I do this because I have been let down so many times by the weather forecasting models. I am in a 22' pilot house boat and have absolutely been thrashed 4-6' by waves on what was supposed to be a calm day. I would have done exactly what you did....find a bigger boat! I use NOAA and a few other websites that have shown me accuracy. I'll have to see how windy does with my other sites. Thanks for the video.
