John Skinner for President
I'm too young apparently.
Lol.. Good one John.
Legendary response LOL
Great response John
To cool 😎
John I noticed your brothers retrieve may have been slower. I think your retrieve increased in speed with the blitzing excitement lol. I catch myself doing that too so I purposely slow it down.
I’ve had some luck with fussy stripers like this using a snapper popper. The float draws attention, and the small trailing tube/hook is more similar in size/shape to what they’re eating
Nice catches. Great that you figured out the bite. I strongly recommend that , since you don't keep Bass, that you switch to a rod with more backbone to minimize the length of fight and the build up of lactic acid in the fish. Here in Mass they tell us to avoid removing the fish from the water even. Great video, tight lines, Joe
Nice skinner, was out on the rocks after work yesterday, no bass unfortunately but I did walk away with my first keeper fluke for the season at 21” which definitely surprised me a bit
Amazing how finicky bass can be! You still make it look easy. I fish the sound north of you. Marking lots of fish and bait hard to get a bite. Waiting for that slightly warmer water. Tight lines!
I was out there also. Atlantic silversides is what they were chasing. I could see them in the water. I used 2-1/2” poppers to catch. Lost a bunch due to small hooks
I just had a very similar day too John. I waded in open flats as gulls were very active and found stripers popping up and feeding on bay anchovies. Sometimes they were right next to me, but they would hardly hit. I only had 3 stripers interested in a small spook.
Blues should be showing up pretty soon.
Had a VERY similar situation here in R.I. two days ago fishing three separate rivers feeding our Bay. Looked like bass were keyed in on small silversides. All my artificials were oversized. Had only one swirl inside a small cove with my smallest size spook type plug. No hook ups all day
Been doing real good with red and white minnows and spooks
Today you had a lot of fun fishing.
Hi. Fantastic as always. I’ve learned to cheat - take saltwater fly (surf candy for example) + 30 inches of fluoro, swivel and sliding casting clear float (chip south bend) above the swivel. Float fills w water and gives weight to rig. It obviates need for fly rod and hits well those finicky fish. Also works great on albies…easy way to match the hatch.
Great Action 💯💪
And on matching the hatch
Don’t discount the 007 & 017 diamond jigs and small crippled herrings when the fish are on those small anchovies. Soft plastics like zoom flukes will work too.
Fishermans dream that school is...tough bite though....very challenging
I was lucky enough to hook one of those small bait fish last year so i could see what they were on in that particular spot. I found a decent representation to be the Storm 3" swim shads. Almost perfect profile. Down side of course is they are very light, poor casting. Seem to be a decent option though.
I experienced this past Monday. SAME thing! Bit on an old Sidewinder! Only one..
Great video 🎣
You are going to have the fly rod strapped to the boat permanently now lol
JOHN Skinner is a great fisherman. So helpful to his brother. Every action with purpose and very in the moment. I liked when he put his rod in the rod holder and released the bail so he could take care of the bass with the line free. He was so gentle boating his fish. He fishes like an artist. An Artist Fisherman..
yeah was out east Sunday found birds and bass feeding but very hard to catch , we only landed one on a fly. same w other boats around also -didn't see them hook up
Great channel Skinner!!! Do you do any Guide trips? I would love to get a chance to fish with ya.
Same. Would be very interested in this.
I started using quick clips . I'm sure they change the action. I'm going clipless this season.
Nice I’ve been catching in shinickock
I also think like you.
Welcome back.
A 4" bass assassin shad was my secret weapon on Tuesday in that area. Everything else was turned away.
Sounds about right. The last two trips they happily hit this bit.ly/MyCustomPaddletail on a 1/8-ounce 3/0 swimbait hook. It's 3.5 inches. The same thing I fish around 75% of the time in Florida. I had a 48-inch 41.5-pounder on it this morning. It will be on an upcoming video.
How about the old reliability of the Kastmaster!
I'm really not a fan of tin for bass unless I really need distance.
That was a donkey of a fish. Plenty of weight for an earlyish fish . Imagine that in October.
Interesting to see I would have thrown a spook glider works like a charm.
Great day John. Just curious why you didn't try a small diamond jig or tin?
They all look like a school of bunker
Hard to catch hahaha , you got use to fishing in Florida haha in Florida the fish bite almost every cast but in nyc its a completely different story haha
Kastmaster? Do you ever throw that. Haven’t seen you use.
Does your brother have a youtube channel? He seems to be the fish catcher....😊
Great video as usual. How come we don't use bucktails and gulp grubs in sw fla.?
I do sometimes, but I just seem to prefer the soft plastics.
Did you ever figure out what they were on? I’ve had similar things happen at night when they are hitting up top near lights but are very picky. Would love to know what they’re hitting
Small bay anchovies.
John, what is your braid to leader connection? It looks like you tie direct. What know do you use? Thanks in advance.
Leader to braid through small high-quality barrel swivel. Palomar on braid, clinch on leader.
What’s the rod specs carbon shield rod specs John ?
Inspirational as always, John! Just to confirm, did you go to 30/50# line/leader in the second half of the trip from 20/30# in the first half?
P.S. My bilge died this week, so if you wouldn’t mind running across the sound to pick me up, that would be great.😅
20# main, then 30 or 50 leader.
Idk whats worse. Not seeing fish and not catching or seeing fish feeding and not catching.
How do you transport your rods to and from New York? THX. Good video once again.
Reels yes, rods no.
Hey, im just wondering what size tsunami reel that is. Thanks
2000
Don’t know where this is but any bass in eastern sound right now?
Definitely.
Hi John, what bucktail trailer do you use?
amzn.to/4a9Qy45
What knot do you use to die direct to jigs/bucktails/plugs rather than the TA clip?
Clip had nothing to do with anything.
@@mikewright222 I’m not specifically saying it did, but I just started kayak fishing and I was actually recently trying to figure out what knot is best to direct tie jigs. Who better to ask than John?!
This is killing me, was this yesterday ? I trailed my boat from Ronkonkoma area but couldn’t launch it because the DEC didn’t put the docks in yet !
Not yesterday. Relax.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing ok thanks, what made it worse was that while i was assessing the ramp situation I took a bad fall into the rocky water.
Yep, very low tide yesterday. Get better soon.
Bite has been very weird so far.
Nice action
.nobody around ?
what only boat fishing what happened?
Next video. The main problem is I can't video at night when the better shore fishing happens.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
why keep using plugs ? bucktail time!
We started with bucktails without a touch, I even went back to a smaller one with the same result. Tried three different kinds.
Just keep drifting
Also catch a lot of stripebass and black fish like share subscribe 🤟
Any weird looking guys asking for pictures with a street sign lately? #bencallbikermike
I disagree on the Berkeley Lip Grip … they’re JUNK… Lost Huge Striper at the boat after removing the plug! NEVER AGAIN!
Not my experience at all. I liked it so much I got a second one so I could keep one in Florida and one up here.
If you ever responded to messages on Instagram, I could tell you what would catch one on nearly every cast in that situation. You were close with wat you were doing/using at one point.
Your my hero john skinner . 🫡 I learn so much about striper from you, i mostly fly fish clousers and gurglers for them but so much cross over info. I still will throw a plug here and there with spinning gear just to be like you haha. Do you ever chase our stripey boys with the fly rod ? Id love to see you pull out the fly rod in your videos.
I pick up a fly rod every couple of months. Here was my last fly outing: czcams.com/video/wGz_x7ZNBJA/video.html
