Ladies and gentlemen the king of the Bucktails has returned seems like I've been waiting forever and a day welcome back John
I just spoke to John and he told me that you appear obsessed with him and he doesn’t want you to comment on his videos any more.
John was just telling me how gay you are Fred
@@camski13 ; it’s true.
I’m gay.
Problem?
Fast moving rips never fail ..but I must admit I am a bit surprised to see you fishing deeper water this early in the season. Most of my success further west has revolved around fishing shallow mud bottoms, especially on warmer days when the sun heats things up. Good luck this season John. Hopefully we can get you back on some south shore beaches this year for a few videos. Been years since we were treated to one of those. Curious to see how/if your approach in the sandy beach surf has changed given your Florida experience, and the recent fondness for vertical jigging with spoons and roundhead bucktails, and a spook now in your arsenal as well. Might be interesting. Don’t think you’ve ever done a true reading the water video either - invaluable given all the continual changing structure of the sandy beach. Lots of interesting things to look forward this season! Catch em up John!
The blues are definitely here. Welcome back!
Came back from keyport caught some nice ones in the bay
Welcome back I got my first of the the season under the Verrazano bridge
Hey John,
Welcome back to your home grounds. Have a great season and of course stay safe. Was happy to John H. retire and continue his charter business and of course the Skinner trips are aways my favorite. regards Walt from NJ member of the Skinner tin boat fleet fishing the Sandy Hook area. Been fishing here since the 50's.
Welcome back John..as another winter flies by. Time is going too fast as we age.
I know. It's a relativity thing :-(
As always John, great "no hassle" report and action video, love to see you back in this very seasonal fishing. We're all just dipping our toes at some of these first signs of early striper..
Thanks for your work, God bless!
Welcome back John! I always look forward to u coming back and watching your vids. Keeps me going too...time to get out there. I fish ct li sound. Good luck!
Great to see you back fishing and teaching us the fundamentals. Keep them coming and please do some Surf fishing videos.
Good to see you back up here John. Always love your videos. Blues are hitting big time in south jersey.
Thanks John! We are just starting to catch some nice stripers in upstate NY in the Hudson river
Great to have you home sir! Unlike you, I'm gonna wait a month more before the treck back to Riverhead.
I've been nailing them on 4"-6" swimmers here in southwestern CT John. They went from hitting on the pause to slamming during steady and erratic retrieves. They've been interested in darker colors this spring. Guys throwing white, yellow, and pink soft plastics have hardly been getting anything. I haven't gotten much with white and chicken scratch swimmers vs colors like a dark or deep blue, mossy green, olive green, mid tone to darker grays, and mid tone to darker browns.
Yesss sirrrr John has returned. Cant wait for this season
Let’s goooo ur back to li. I was out this morning caught a few 26s on bucktails and sp minnows
Had my first one of the season this morning snap jigging from the rocks, a nice 30” fish just a few casts in, i thought I might b onto something but then nothing else lol. Next week is supposed to b pretty warm so I think it should really improve over the week into weekend
Welcome home John!
Almost certainly a blue in that slow mo clip. Seen a few people cashing in on some high 20"- low 30" blues already pushing into skinny backbays
Glad to see you back in the northeast!
Bass starting to arrive here on Cape Cod!
Welcome back!
Nice catch. Loved striper fishing.
John, welcome back!
Welcome back
We splashed our boat yesterday and the water was in fact 52 degrees (at the Jones Inlet area). Hopefully the currents bring some warmer waters up soon.
Welcome back to the NE.
Gators are moving up Jersey coast!
I just got a tsunami evict after watching your video in the keys. Oh my what a reel for the money. Thanks for all the info.
Yep. Stainless gears for around $150. Hard to beat.
Skinner’s back, time to break out my Prozac !
The king is back in the northeast!
Welcome back! Yak attack…
Go South. Its on fire !!!!
Invest in a drysuit John. Your worth it!
I am not falling for it.... The water temp average is still to low for me to go out on the eastern side of CT. Every year I go out to early. This year I will resist. Maybe. 🙂 Glad you had a good time out there. Maybe if I were near the Peconic bay.
I had a couple yesterday in niantic, 28-34 inches around 4pm
I think I know where you are!
Welcome back,Skinner!
Here’s to a great season ahead 👍
No blues in my section of NJ yet but i did get a 50" bass last week from the surf. Can't beat a start like that.
Congratulations!!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Love watching your videos. They've helped me out with stripers and flounder over the years. Best of luck to you!
I caught a pufferfish in nyc while targeting blackfish. Any idea what they are doing here this early?
The fish is very big
Great to have you back John!
John your reel sounds like it needs to be serviced?
Glad to see your back. Was that the sound or bay?
bay
As always thank you for taking us out with you!
Question: when you are fishing from shore and there are no boulders, what lb test leader will you typically use with 30# or 40# braid?
Is there any other reason to use 50# test leader than fear of breakoff?
If there's no chance of bluefish or obstructions then 30 is fine.
Got my first striper here in Rhode Island April 18th, 2 days earlier than last year. Then boom... The cold nights came and it was like a switch turned off.
When I got up here it was near 70 degrees. Yesterday morning was 38 degrees and 34 the morning prior!
I’m a better fisherman than John Skinner and I can prove it.
@@fredhammer6413what book can i read of yours ???????????
@@user-wz5xb4nb6n ; I don’t have time to write books, I’m too busy filleting fish.
Hey John, what’s the camera mount you have for the GoPro on the kayak. Thanks
Yak attack.
Hey John does that 45lb trolling motor able to bring you back to the ramp with all the current in the sound?
It's 3.8mph wide open on still water, so plenty of power where I fish it. It's an awesome craft. When I was spot locked in that current the motor was running 30% max.
I went up out of Atlantic Highlands yesterday and when we got back to ramp the were 2 conservation officers and they came straight over to us cause we had the bluefin gear out. One boarded boat and other talked to me on pier. While I was talking I saw something in water and pulled it out. It was an ice cold 34" striper. One of the crumbs in front of us got spooked and dumped it. Then the officers went to the boat in front of us and asked the guy if they caught anything. He said yeah a 34" 😂. Then the officers say did you keep it? Guy says yes then goes no no no we let it go 😂. I'm sure they had a cooler of slimy ice if the officers looked better. I really hate people anymore. It ruins it for everyone
I am curious how a sporadically worked spook (cadence eventually to a slow walk) would have done over the pencil in this scenario? Or unweighted sluggo....I just want to be casting at fish lolol
I tried the spook (rebel jumpin minnow) with a couple of different retrieves that I use on snook and just one blowup.
John. How much does barometric pressure play into your decision to head out ? Specifically for Bass. I understand approaching storms and plummeting pressure etc. But, for example, if you see a stretch of clear weather with High pressure in control, would that deter you from heading out ? Or do you think things like structure and/or current are more important ? Thanks
Soooo...? No ?
Hey John, can you explain how you protect yourself in 50 degree water temp kayak fishing? Is that dry suit or looks more like waders with a jacket over top? Thanks
I wear a farmer john wetsuit under everything.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thank you
Do you prefer the ny fishery or fl?
Not sure.
Hey back from FL yesss!!!
You need a balancer
Gulp down the gulp juice
a medium sink glidebait would wreck these fish
Right, Maryland in the chesapeake is closed because the summer fishers destroyed the breeding stock. Enjoy.
I’m a better fisherman than John Skinner and I can prove it.
When the wind blew the shit flew
Wheres the video ?? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
@@user-wz5xb4nb6n ; there is no video. You just have to take my word for it.
