I haven't caught Weakfish in years in the Point Pleasant Canal i used to catch them up to 10lbs they are a soft fishy tasting meat but fluke is my choice even over striped bass that requires a ice saltwater soak to draw the blood out of the meat to remove the musty flavor out that taste similar to seabass.

Yes, but most importantly, fish marking. Weakfish have big swim bladders and mark well on sonar.

Not the terminal rig. It's really a deep water thing. This is exactly the rod and reel I use for reds/snook/trout in SW Florida.

John....any chance of a catch clean and cook for weakfish?
Zero chance. I don't like eating them and the bag limit is 1.
Without a boat, any tips on rigging for weakfish from the pier or docks?
The problem is finding weakfish from shore or docks. If you do, then small bucktails or leadhead jigs with soft plastics are the standard.
If you think there are weakfish wherever you're fishing, go before sunrise. That's very important. 1/2 oz to 1 oz jighead with a bass assassin will catch them if they're there. Snap jig it
The weakfish are good eating if you filet them and remove the skin. I usually prefer fish cut into steaks, but the skin of weakfish has an unpleasant odor.
