I wouldn’t compare Brian to Christopher Tolkien so much as I would compare him to David Day. Both David and Brian are clearly fans of their respected series but also don’t have any objections to publishing their own interpretation and passing it off as canon. Both make tons of books using the author’s name and recognition to sell copies, all in fancy formats with cool artwork, but lack the ability to say anything really profound about these series in their writing beyond surface level observations and understandings of the story

Kinda scary how closely parallel Aerys life is to mine, keeping out the high lordships and such, but noticing as someone who sees themselves also noticing I was a vain, jealous and fickle minded person as a young adult. it’s wild to see how that’s portrayed in his character. I lost my father at a young age as well and had a close group of friends that I slowly faded from. This was only my childhood, but as I’ve grown I’ve become a better man (at least I’d like to think I am) and see through my flaws, it would be amazing to see a spin off fanfic where Aerys doesn’t descend into madness, see if he can have as good a comeback I feel my life has.
