I believe that Rhaegar was a major reason why the seven kingdoms put up with Aerys II so much, everyone was just waiting for him to bite the dust so that Rhaegar could take over as King.
It is similar to how the people of Rome where waiting of Tiberius to die so that the more popular and capable Germanicus could take over as Emperor.

Rhaegar is possibly the most interesting character in the show.I think part of the reason people don’t know him well (and this hasn’t been said directly but it’s what I’ve interpreted) is because he’s very stoic. He has emotions he just doesn’t show them very often he’s thoughtful but he doesn’t share those thoughts similar to Jon I think he’s the best analogy. Both are known for being leaders that were chosen by the people and loved by many both are very stoic but both are known for kindness as well.Rhaegar is probably much less humble though. This idea makes sense as they are father and son. Both of them don’t enjoy what they do but do it out of a sense of duty. For Jon its leading and fighting for Rhaegar its fighting and maybe. leading.

@@11bluekitkats Book Jon actually was not a very beloved leader. He did gain some friends in the Night's watch, most importantly Sam, but men didn't immediately love and follow him. He took command of the Wall when the Wildlings showed up because Donal Noye who was in charge was killed and Maester Aemon named him acting commander.
Janos Slynt and Alliser Thorne didn't arrive at Casstle Black until days or weeks later after the battle had started and took command. They both wanted him executed but Aemon spoke out against this and he had more influence with the men they then did so they backed down. He was then chosen as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch because the vote was spilt over two candidates. Sam is able to negotiate with the higher ups to vote for Jon as a compromise leader.
So it was more of the fact that Jon had the right friends in the right places. But even that didn't stop them from stabbing him to death, even though some of them had tears in their eyes doing it.

Something that’s always stuck in my head is how Mirri Maz Duur said, “only death can pay for life”.
Rhaegar was born at Summerhall during “The Tragedy at Summerhall” while it burnt down and was in flames (a type of storm). This tragedy killed his grandfather, Aegon V, Duncan Targaryen, and Duncan the Tall.
Daenarys was arguably conceived when Rhaegar died, and her father died soon after she was conceived too. They were fleeing Dragonstone for their lives too. Then she was born during a storm, and her mother died giving birth to her.
Jon Snow was born shortly after his father, Rhaegar, died and as the Kingsguard & Ned with his companions fought & died outside (another kind of storm). All 3 of the Kingsguard died trying to protect the Tower of Joy. Then his mother, Lyanna, died giving birth to him.
Lots of death led to their lives. There are many coincidences & parallels between them and their births too. Then there are three of them… 3 heads of the dragon. 3 betrayals. 3 of this and 3 of that. I don’t claim to know what the 3 means but perhaps all 3 of them are part of the prophecy?

  • @brendan9868
    @brendan9868 Před 10 měsíci +18

I’ve seen a lot of people go off of Viserys’s claims of how amazing Rhaegar is before which obviously just isn’t accurate. Like you brought up there’s a 17 year age gap between the two, that’s pretty massive. Even now in the modern world that type of age gap would lead to them acting more like cousins or uncle-nephew at family gatherings lol.
Adding on that Aerys had already had a falling out with Rhaegar and that Rhaegar already had his own seat at Dragonstone, the picture becomes clearer. Viserys barely knew Rhaegar and probably talked to him a handful of times at most. Most of his knowledge of his brother would’ve probably come from his mother, who probably instilled this hero worship of him into Viserys.
It’s important for Dany that she has Barristan, she needs to fully understand what Rhaegar and Aerys did and the rebellion that ensued was serious and was their faults and that Westeros is not going to support her cause purely for the sake of her heritage.

    • @thatoneblackdude3333

I have often wondered 🤔 what Prince Rhaegar couldn't foresee his younger brother Prince Viserys III as one of his prophetic three heads of the dragon 🐲. Then he wouldn't have to worry about his wife Princess Elia having childbirth complications in the future. He could have asserted a more familiar and instructive role in the upbringing and childhood of the young Viserys III and enlightened him about the Song of Ice and Fire with additional support from Maester Aemon of Castle Black potentially to get the point across. Then he could prioritize the safety and well-being of the Targaryen triarchy of Prince Viserys III, Princess Rhaenys and Prince Aegon VI going forward as his position of influence would be almost unassailable though I am sure the Mad King would put up roadblocks . . . how successful could he be in frustrating Prince Rhaegar's access to his mother Queen Rhaella and consequently her younger son Prince Viserys III?!?

I disgree completely about Rhaegar not loving Lyanna Stark. Lyanna Stark was describe as a "wild beautiful lady", who was a half horse because she rode so often, honest, intelligent, and spoke her mind. She was full of life and energy. Which is why Rhaegar instantly fell in love with her.
And add in the fact that the North and the Starks were mostly seen as more of a foreign territory of the realm since they rarely married into Southern Nobility and were hardly visted by the Targaryens, you could also say she was a exotic creature that Rhaegar immediately fell in love with. It was very well known that Lyanna was engaged to Robert and Rhaegar's marriage to Elia was political with no sense of emotion or attachment to her.
I believe if Rhaegar had killed Robert and defeat the rebellion, he would have offered pardons to Nedd and the others. And probably desposed his father in some way.

As he became more and more delusional, he started blaming her for the miscarriages and acting in sadistic and paranoid ways toward her. Dany was conceived in rape after Aerys murdered Rickard and Brandon Stark, and Rhaella's pregnancy did result in a live birth. She didn't leave KL until she was heavily pregnant, so probably in her late 2nd or 3rd trimester. I'm not saying Aerys wasn't a horrifically awful husband, but I don't think he was responsible for Rhaella's miscarriages.

Jon snow seems similar to him. He’s a bastard so he always seems sad and frustrated with life. He didn’t no the prophecy but once he saw the white walkers he became obsessed with making allies to survie the long night. He also felt like he had to be the hero like rhaegar.

Rhaegar was so dumb taking Lyanna who was only daughter of Rickard and was promised to Robert Baratheon. It was obvious that it would cause rebellion. him being obsessed with prophecy also ruined his family he should have stayed with Ellia and maybe he could have became king and his wife and children would be alive. Danny and Viserys would not suffer. If he knew the third head of dragon was his little sister Danny

Rhaegar has to be the biggest ass canoe in the whole story. He plunged what was left of his family into war and death. Forcing his two siblings to flee one being an infant and the other a small boy who had to take on responsibilities as an adult. But Viserys blaming Dany for their mother’s death was right it’s actually cruel. He left out the part where their father was cruel to her, raped and abused her. But Rhaegar took the cake and people call Rhaenyra children bastards but disregard Rhaegar like he didn’t leave his sick wife that almost died giving him two children for a dirty Northern girl. Jon is still a bastard and I don’t believe Dorne would have allowed that disrespect that would have been a war on its on. There’s pieces missing because it isn’t mathing

I doubt Rhaeghar thought taking Lyanna would cause a full scale rebellion and honestly the war only started because Brandon Stark the dumbest man in the 7 kingdoms rocking up to the mad kings house demanding Rhaeghar to come out and die

@@smdrn66 did you forget Rhaegar first wife? Obviously you did. HE LEFT HIS FIRST WIFE WHO WAS ALREADY SICK FOR ANOTHER WOMAN. I highly doubt a separation was a thing in those days. By all means Jon is still a BASTARD. He already had two children in lie for the Throne. He plugged the rest of his already DYING FAMILY LINE into war. Rhaegar was the cause for the war and as much as I dislike Robert for what he did but he was justified. Everyone that has a hard on for Jon disregards him being a full fledged bastard and who died for him to be born. Children were murdered brutally for Rhaegar to fulfill the prophecy that was already in motion. Dany is the Princess that was promised. Rhaegar two other children were murdered and his wife was raped and then murdered. Robert should have been told who Jon was conceived by and he should have been killed.

@@smdrn66and what of Elia Martell? Annulling their marriage (which would be a VERY hard thing to do as they had children already) would make their kids bastards. Would Dorne stand to have her Aegon be usurped for whatever son Lyanna has? Either way, Rhaegar was one stupid man.

I'm starting to think Dany really is a phony. I was rereading a chapter with her in the Vaes Dothrak market when she shows her Khas spiced sausages and inquires about 'honey-fingers'.
She says that "as a child" (she's still a child), she'd always play in the market and never have enough money for honey-fingers.
What kind of princess that's being hunted by assassins goes to play in a crowded market with a bunch of other filthy street urchins who are too broke to afford a drop of honey fried in gutter oil?
