I like to think that Viserys chose Balerion very strategically. As the most famous dragon he made a perfect status symbol. But as the oldest dragon it gave Viserys a perfect excuse for not being much of dragon rider. Like someone buying an antique sports car when they don’t even like to drive that much. They can say nah I love riding but this thing’s a classic and I don’t want to damage it.
I think you're completely correct. Something I'd add to that is that as part of the excuse of Balerion being too old to ride anymore is maybe because Viserys was scared of dragons and didn't like them much
@@Spongebrain97onestly who tf wouldn't have a certain degree, albeit higher on some than other Targaryens, degree of fear of a potentially genocidal animal who is magically connected to your very body, mind and soul by some magic you certainly have no idea how that works?
Baelon and Alyssa deserves better
Factss l0l
Yeah
Cant be too good in Fire and blood
Baelon is actually the fourth child born to Jaehaerys and Alyssane. Aegon was the first child who died after he was born, the second was Daenaerys who died of the shivers at six.
Also Jaehaerys was wise to not give everyone dragons, he knew they were nukes. But he did let his eldest living son and his spare(after getting their knighthoods) and his eldest daughter have a dragon (basically because Alyssa wasnt going to get shipped off to some family). And this is the reason why Aemma Arryn doesnt have a dragon, Jaehaerys knew they could be used against each other.
I hope I will see Baelon & Aemon on tv someday.
Early on, GRRM wanted House of the Dragon to start off with Aemon and Baelon during their fathers reign. Can't remember where I heard it, but there's a rumor that in season 2 there will be some flashbacks to Jaehaerys I reign. Hope it's true.
@@Kyle-qd2sy it was during an interview when he talked about The Rise of the Dragon illustrated book. Yeah a season 2 flashback would be cool.
God imagine how many reactions the show could have gotten if they showed the tragedy of Aemon's early death and Baelon crying into his mother's arms as he told her that all the Myrish soldiers he killed couldn't bring his elder brother back. That was gut wrenching to read in F&B.
Imagine punching the snout of Balerion the Black Dread whose flames forged the Iron Throne and helped to conquer the Seven Kingdoms. What type of Targaryen is he?
Baelon the Brave

But is he brave enough to punch the snout of King Ghidorah, the Three-Headed, politically-intelligent, ion-breathing, alien dragon?

Wish we saw Baelon and Aemon on television, apparently GRRM wanted them for HOTD, but I’m not sure why the idea was never followed through
Because the story they want to tell is the Dance of the Dragons. They wanted to get to that as soon as possible.
@@carastone3473 true, im happy with the way the show was because atleast we got to the main story straight away
I love HOTD, but the pacing is Blitzkrieg. Imagine if we started even further back.
Fact both Vizzy T and daemon both named their first son after their unborn brother hit deep
Rhaenrya actually chose the name Aegon as an insult to Alicent. It had nothing to do with Daemon.
Like all the Aegons, they're more likely named after The Conquer
Not a son, but I think OP was referring to Baela, who is named after Baelon.
I love how their granddaughter Baela inherited Baelon and Alyssa's personalities
Rhaenyra is a combination of three of Jaehaerys' line from his 3 children if you really think about it. Prince Baelon, Princess Alyssa, and Princess Daella Targaryen from Queen Aemma's side.
Technically she more like Saera Targaryen not prince Baelon.
@@ladyviking89 They're not talking about personality, those are her grandparents
@@ladyviking89 she's nothing like either of them
You could have added that is was archmaester Vaegon that Jeaheaerys summoned to Kingslanding to council him about the succesion problem and it was Vaegons idea to call a great council of 101
I find it so fascinating that both Vaegon and Seara were possibly alive at the start of the Dance as well.
@@reesehendricksen1871 i really Hope that we will ser Vaegon on hotd season 2 for a moment
@@norbix-od7rt Vaegon was born in 63 AC and died shortly after The Great Council of 101. The Dance begins in 129 AC.
The only way you'd see Vaegon is through a flashback which isn't necessary since
1) That time period of The Great Council is water under the bridge compared to an ongoing civil war
2) Vaegon was never a major character. His 1 major act is counselling his father to summon a great council.
I can see why his presence even through flashback would be cool but it's not necessary for the story going forward that already has plenty on its plate.
I feel like the Dornish naval attack on the stormlands is the dumbest thing in the ASOIAF lore
Right? That just seemed so unnecessary 💀. It was evidently a lousy effort to remove my heirs and set the stage for the Dance of the Dragons smh
@@JaehaerysTheConciliatorThe Dornish invasion of the Stormlands had nothing to do with getting rid of heirs to set the stage for the Dance. Jaehaerys, Aemon and Baelon all on Dragonback along with Lord Rogar Baratheon's army defeated the Dornish attempt without losing a single man.
You're probably thinking of the Myrish raids on Tarth where Prince Aemon rode to aid the Evenstar of Tarth and ended up getting a Myrish crossbolt to the throat that was meant for the Evenstar and not the Heir Prince. That was the 1st real domino for the succession crisis.
I was not expecting a picture of Hild in this video but I am absolutely not mad about it!
Love your videos man! always gives me something to look forward to!
I really appreciate the backstories you provide. I read 4 of the books but eventually I gave up on trying to read them all.
Alyssa + Baelon, my most favorite coupple !!!
I think the refused to eat porridge part was referencing that she didn’t care about watching her figure
Dope. I had no idea. There should be like an optjonal short like this you could watch before the house of the dragons
Amazing video bro
Aemmas mother was daela ,daela was rlly anxious didn’t even like dragon scared of cats and everything wasn’t a dragon rider in the vale this could suggest that aemma didn’t grow up targ so she wasn’t a dragon rider
Hey please do a video on all Valyrian steel weapons
Apologies in advance @3:40….but I recently heard that “eating porridge “ is code going down on the ladies….😂 so Alyssa could be just a straight “top rider”😂
It's because of Alyssa that I strongly suspect that Tyrion is, in fact, the bastard son of the Mad King. It's the mismatched eyes, I think, that really clinches it for me.
I disagree
@@mrscaryfox3955 same
I don’t think so. Tyrion is the youngest child. If there was even a CHANCE he could be anyone else's son, Tywin would've jumped on that.
Yes... I know it's controversial... it's just that Tyrion has so many of the Targaryen traits... the platinum blonde hair... dragon dreams... mismatched eyes... and he even seems to be fairly resistant to disease - more than most. We know that Tywin had good reason to think the Mad King had taken liberties with his wife and was rightfully upset with him about it. He continued to insist that Tyrion was NOT his... and constantly resented the fact that he had no way to prove it. The Lannisters consistently had golden blonde hair and green eyes... and no mention of one with platinum blonde hair... or any irregularity in the eyes prior to Tyrion. Tyrion seems to do okay when he finally does come in contact with the dragons too. I think there is enough in the texts to suggest the possibility - but of course EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion... at least until GRRM confirms or denies it.
Counterpoint: dumb theory + ratio
there's no period of time during the targeryen rain that I don't want to see
Wait... the beginning of the House of the Dragon? NO... GRRM's words clearly say that the seeds for the Dance were sown a HALF CENTURY prior to the Dance. The beginning you mention is still 20 to 25 years short of that 50-year period. We have to look even further back... to somewhere between 75 and 80... What was going on then? What are the "seeds" he was speaking of?
This is literally the exact time period covered during the video, lmao
Second to take the Black!!!!
As complicated and tumultuous as a family can get
It seemed like in the show, the king was implying bealor death was suspicious and hightower was suspected. With the benefit of hindsight
... didn't Alyssa tame Caraxes, not Meleys?
No, Aemon rode him.

Refused to eat porridge?
I think it’s meant to indicate that she didn’t care about dieting, or watching her figure like “most” ladies
2:50 I have to say, that drawing doesn´t seem very accurate.
Poor Jahaerys. Twas a great king but lost his sons too early & have very very troublesome daughters.
His only troublesome daughters were Saera and Viserra.
- Yeah Viserra was poor but she wasn't a lost cause (like Saera) and her death was a tragic accident.
- Saera was a narcissistic psychopath who lived a sheltered life and likely would've been troublesome no matter her parents and where she grew up.
So it's unfortunate the King and Queen were given a daughter like that but that's bound to happen when you have 9 surviving kids.
Tho, out of 6 surviving daughters, only 2 were troublesome.

I dont think Storm of the Xmen is a Targaryen lol she could be tho 🤷🏾♂️🤣
You mean Velayron
man their parents were so cool i read the book recently. how are they so fucking unlikable
Bro after ms arryn got married her last name was Targaryen lol
Vinland saga
I feel like Alyssa was in some ways a victim of the same system that led to Aemma, Daella, and other female characters deaths. Really sad to think about.
What system? They died in childbirth.
@@carastone3473
I mean the patriarchal system which basically pressured women to be married off and to have children often too early.
If you read the books you know she wasn't a victim. She said she wished to give Baelon 20 sons, an army of his own. So no, not like she was forced to shoot out kids until she died, she wanted to give him as many kids as she wanted, her choice not the patriarchy.
Yeah, but women didn't get a lot of choices or say in what they got to do. I'm not trying to say she wasn't happy with this lifestyle. I just feel like some of it was very pressured given how young she was when she was married to Baelon. Yes she was happy and loved him but she was still a woman growing up in a system that sees women as "objects".
@@matthewcunningham6351 for every rule there is an exception, its fair to say she was especially compared to her sisters.
