I think that the MOST important thing you need to know in order to manage your weight and your wellness is “How to Use Your Glucose as a Fuel Gauge (A Pictorial Guide)”
optimisingnutrition.com/how-to-use-your-glucose-as-a-fuel-gauge-a-pictorial-guide/
I'm linking a video that I made to show two options for getting started with a glucose meter by buying an kit at Walmart; each kit option is $20-ish and includes all supplies needed: czcams.com/video/0TnW9f54BS0/video.html
For ongoing long-term use, because testing can get expensive, I suggest using a Dario glucose meter subscription with UNLIMITED test strips. I have two links to share:
This first link is JUST the meter, not the link for the getting the unlimited test strips: Meter will be $21.95 for Dario Meter: www.dariohealth.com/lp/bg/flash-sale/
This second link is for Dario’s Annual Subscription for UNLIMITED Test Strips: (it’s the $169.00 plan that is the best price per test strip - even better than my $200 subscription) about.mydario.com/try-dario-success-plan/?lid=y0gsg1jehzq3
I’ve heard from others that I've been helping is that after signing up for the unlimited test strip offer, you may see another screen asking you if you want to spend another $40 to get unlimited test strips with your subscription...NO! That’s what you signed up for; you do NOT need to agree to another $40 - do not do that. Oh, and just so you know, I am NOT getting ANY discount or kickback for pointing you to Dario. If you need to talk to Dario’s Customer Service: 800:895-5921 or use 888-665-7201
This next bit of into is to explain the cost difference between using one of the glucose meter kit choices from Walmart vs using Dario's offer: I counted up my test strip usage for an average month. I used 278 test strips. If I were still using my ReliOn meter from Walmart, and buying the test strips that cost 18¢ a piece, I would have spent $50.04 on test strips for just one month; multiplied by 12 months that totals up to ~$600/yr. My Dario annual subscription for UNLIMITED test strips costs me way less than that!
About testing for an insulin ratio, I don’t often point people to “DrBoz”, because I think she’s off-base in her “keto, keto, keto” evangelism and I think her diet is unhealthy…not focusing on protein and the other important nutrients because she is fixated on fats, BUT, her 14min. video from April 19, 2019: czcams.com/video/FBovEjbiAOE/video.html is helpful in understanding some things about insulin and testing one’s own insulin ratio (glucose to ketones) at home.
For a blood ketone meter, with price in mind, I am pointing you to the KetoTrak Testing Kit: amzn.to/3GvRlAb affiliate
KetoTrack Test Strips: amzn.to/3Ternsg - affiliate
The KetoCoach ketone meter I use is no longer being sold, so I can't point you that.
Insulin’s role is more nuanced than achieving homeostasis storing away fuel for future use; this free blog post by Marty Kendall of OptimisingNutrion is an excellent learning resource: Decipher the Insulin Code: How to Lower Your Insulin Levels: optimisingnutrition.com/lower-insulin-levels/#h-action-steps-practical-tips-to-lower-insulin-levels - the blog post includes “Action Steps: Practical Tips to Lower Insulin Levels” and FREE use of his interactive Food Tableau Chart.
“The biggest driver of your insulin demand that your pancreas produces across the whole day is the level of body fat you hold.” Found at Timestamp 7:31 via this visit between Craig Emmerich and Marty Kendall: “Keto & Carnivore Experts are WRONG About Insulin!” czcams.com/video/PxZXZD2vpQA/video.htmlsi=yUdgHCY569klBS5V
The less body fat we carry, the less insulin will be required to hold back that stored body fat.
The best diet to work toward lowering one's insulin demands is one that provides enough vitamins and minerals, enough essential amino acids (protein) and enough fatty acids, with the lowest total calories - it is a challenge to get the nutrition needed without getting too much energy from fats and carbs. Using Cronometer (free from the app store) is a helpful measurement tool to figure out how one’s food choices meet those nutrient needs without over-fueling with carbs and fats. A good goal to keep in mind in Cronometer is to have one’s green protein bar longer than the gray energy bar.
My recommendation to anyone who wants to lose weight by using up the stored weight unaccessed on the body is to begin each meal from a fuel pulling idea by focusing on getting at least 30-ish grams of lean protein and plenty of non-starchy fibrous veggies and greens; decide according to what glucose indicates as to whether it’s a good idea to add in an energy fueling source of either complex healthy carbs or healthy natural fats.
I created a Google Sheets resource with LOADS of fuel pull recipes (low-fat and low-carb) for breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, and drinks docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-WfYbvZeinVPwKbFp7uR6ejxH4lnj7OLCv94Srw0DIA/edit?usp=sharing

Protein makes unique contributions to the body's health that cannot be duplicated by carbohydrate or fat. Sardines for the win! Fixing some today for myself with the little lady I help take care of on the weekends. 😊
It's pronounced kay fear and you just destroyed any B2 that was available by blending it.
You’re only supposed to take two or three drops. And that looks like a lot of iodine.
@theworshipsinger, I agree with you, now, with more time and education. I have backed way down now and I usually am only taking a few drops.

Brilliant! I have just started fermenting different types of foods. For some reason these type of grains seem so messy. You have discovered such a great system! Thanks for sharing... 👏👏👏
Ice cream demo starts at 20:05
That cage is awesome. Darn, i just ordered a colander
Sp you don't sterilize the stick blender?
Never seen a kefir cage. Going to give it a shot. Havent made Kefir in years...This time though im going to use kefir made from Raw milk in hopes of reproducing the Akkermansia without having to drink the Raw milk and its baby sustaining properties (just give me the bugs).
Great video, thanks!!!
Regarding store bought kefir left on the counter for a day, should you open the cap and leave it loose or keep it sealed
There are glass cages for kefir available on Etsy.
I accidentally blended my kefir grains within my fresh milk as I got my jars mixed up. Now what? Will it still ferment? Will the grains become grains again for a new batch? Or will I have to buy new grains to start all over again? Thanks from a newbie!
I love your kefir travel arrangements, it is like taking the kids with you 🇬🇧😂😂😂😂
Just use raw milk
Very nicely explained.
That’s it that’s the end. Literally made me laugh 😂
I was seriously waiting for her to crack a smile or something 😊
4/26/24. Thank you. You explained the 2nd ferment so well. I didn’t understand that part from other people’s posts. This is so easy. I love my kefir cage, I bought one not too long ago. So worth the money!
Maam I was so happy to see how easy you made getting the kefir drink, but I live in India and do not possess dollars and cannot afford dollars. Can you show me an easy way to get this healthy drink as i need it from health point of view. Tku and hoping you will have an easy way to acquire this healthy drink. Tku
I’m just starting and had not seen the kefir cage. Thanks for a great video.
What are the two brands?
@jeaniepartlow7931, all the info was included in the video’s description box, but if you don’t know how to access that here it is: VIBRATION PLATE OPTIONS: 1st choice - eHUPOO amzn.to/3wY2Xab - affiliate 2nd choice - Zelus 3D amzn.to/3HVM18T (seems to be "currently unavailable, but the specks will be informative of what to look for)
Are you not concerned that the plastic in the cage can leach toxics in your Kiefer?
my thoughts exactly. plastics and fermentation dont mix
@@macemaster correction..plastic works perfectly for the Lady..she has BEAUTIFUL healthy grains
I wish the cage was made of something more benign.
Hi Lori, I was wondering if you ever wash the 1st & 2nd fermentation mason jars out, or as long as one is doing the process like you showed in the video; one doesn't need to ever wash it out? Thanks in advance for getting back to me.
Thank you Lori. This is just the information that I needed. Thanks for the links too.
@pds002, you are welcome. As an update after the passage of time, you might want to take note of the comment by @theworshipsinger: "You’re only supposed to take two or three drops. And that looks like a lot of iodine." Since I made that video, I have backed down and am only taking a few drops, fewer than what was seen in my video.
I LOVE IT.😊
no testimonial of benefits?
@tonytone6912, my testimonial is that I learned from some sources. These are my sources: A link to where I first encountered the idea about supplementing with iodine: www.naturalmedicinejournal.com/journal/2014-06/iodine-and-cancer A short video about the importance of iodine presented by Ken Berry, MD - IODINE: Essential or Dangerous? Why You Need It? How Much? (Maybe 10-15 milligrams/day?) 1-3 milligrams per day is Dr. Berry’s recommendation each drop of Lugol’s Solution is about a 1 - 1 1/2 milligram, so that’s 1-3 drops a day. czcams.com/video/0N6wiJ2Oxck/video.html
I never do a second ferment. Mine is thick after straining and has a pleasant taste by itself. I use it for overnight oats, in place of buttermilk, use it in sourdough. I use a hand whisk and twirl it by spinning it with the palms of my hands. Your second ferment is way too fermented with all of that separation which makes it taste too tart.
Is this lady for real? No one can be this foolish... you literally can put those drops in your coffee and not even taste it...
Fantastic video. Best one I have seen. Plus the added bonus of using a kefir cage. Well done.
Do you know how to make it thicker. Yours appeared a bit thin
Brilliant Lori, thank you.
Thank you!
Great system. Thank you.
Such an excellent video and explanation - loved the "real life" touches! I've started activating some grains already, but was thrilled that you linked to the cage from Amazon - ordered two!
Why wouldn’t you make fermented mayonnaise…? The more fermented foods we have, the healthier we become. ❤
what an excellently made video patient thorough and correct thankyou
Great, simple, and straight to the point. Thank you greatly for this awesome video.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, for this great video. Our son got us started making Kefir but we have not had a cage and what an awful and time consuming mess we've been dealing with. Your video is AWESOME!!!! thank you so so much.
Agreed!!!❤
The cage is genius...where did you get it?
they are available on Amazon. I ordered 4 and we can't wait to get them. :)
@@Sue-In-Oregon Thankyou..I cant believe I didn’t think of making this myself! So simple! Saves all the straining hassle! 🙂👍🏻
Fermentation does not require oxygen. It will happen either without or with oxygen present. The bacteria don’t care.
thanks so much for the vid. i was on the fence about the cage bc of cost but i think i will get one. i need to take care of the fermentation biz as quickly as possible due to chronic pain. the only other thing i do is strain the 2nd ferment into kefir cheese to remove as much whey as possible. i started doing this when i learned whey spikes blood sugar. thanks again, you've streamlined my future kefir fermenting!
Hi Karronlane, fyi, on Google it says that whey reduces blood glucose.
@@Sue-In-Oregon so confusing. google told me it spikes blood sugar. but. i've just learned that when i siphon out the whey before second ferment, my blood sugar does indeed drop. i just tested it today before kefir, and one and two hours after. yay!!
@@karronlaneNOLA that is wonderful, thank you for sharing that info :)
Why didn't you put it in fridge
I am having trouble bringing my fbs below 100. Any suggestions?
How many times can you use the kefir grains?
The kefir cage is just what I've been wanting but unfortunately Amazon in Canada doesn't offer it.
Hi 2lipToo, I am in Oregon and could order it for you and send it to you if you would like. Just let me know, they cost $19.95 on Amazon. cheers from Oregon.
I just ordered3 from Amazon Canada .check again
This lady is absolutely correct about the homemade kefir being better than store bought. The store bought kefir is NOT MADE with grains. Store bought kefir is made with kefir starter. The kefir starter only has 12 of the microbes found in milk kefir. When you make kefir with the grains you get all of the microbes found in real milk kefir. Believe it or not there's almost fifty different microbes in real milk kefir. Bulgarian yoghurt (which is rated as the best yoghurt in the world) only has three different types of microbes in the yoghurt Now you understand why making real milk kefir is so much better for you than mere yoghurt from the store
Why do you do the second fermentation and why you need to see the separation?
