  • Trim Healthy Mama’s eating on either end of the fueling spectrum, low-fat E-Meals on one end and low-carb S-Meals on the other end, along with using OptimisingNutrition’s glucose trigger value work beautifully hand-in-hand (bit.ly/3wItok9) to help me maintain my 1984 Wedding Weight. Both ends of the dietary spectrum are effective for weight loss, meaning, a low-fat dietary style (#THM E-Meals) will work, and a low-carb dietary style (#THM S-Meals) will work, whereas combining fats and carbs (#THM XO Crossover Meals) is the way to gain weight during pregnancy and childhood. That’s what I’ve been learning about since 2013 when I was introduced to the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle. In 2018 my understanding was deepened when I discovered Marty Kendall’s teaching at #OptimisingNutrition about eating from either end of the fueling spectrum, using fats or carbs, but not both if wanting trim down. He writes, “…both low-carb and low-fat camps are successful when they move away from hyper-palatable blends of fat and carbs that are easy to overeat.” And, “Carbs are more inclined to spike your blood sugars initially following a meal, whereas fats are more prone to keeping them elevated for longer.” Separating them helps the body have better glucose and insulin interactions.
It was in 2018 when I discovered Marty Kendall’s blog post about using a glucose meter as a personalized fuel gauge: bit.ly/3qENiKk, and I began learning from his OptimisingNutrition.com blog posts that the nutrients I consume being another key to weight loss. He says, “Your diet doesn’t need a name or a belief system, just enough nutrients.” Did you know that dieta’s Greek root means way of life? If I didn’t want to stick to my 2013 discovery of the THM way of life, I didn’t have to. But I like THM!…all I needed to do was pull back on the 3hr-4hr frequent fueling…after going into menopause because that frequent eating was initiating too many elevated glucose responses and working against me keeping trim. Thankfully I discovered eating by my glucose meter’s feedback which then helped me get back to trim after a two-year struggle with menopausal weight gains. Thank you, @geneva1011, for sharing your thoughts of appreciation. I had fun with that one. I’m going to try to do it again at some point this month when I’m in California staying with our oldest and her family.

@@geneva1011 Now that I am settled in at our daughter's home in California, I am hoping to make a couple of "In the Kitchen" videos. Thank you for the vote of confidence. I'll try not to disappoint.

@geneva1011, I'm back in Texas, but while I was in California I was busier than expected, and now that I'm back here at home I still haven't gotten into the flow of making videos from my kitchen...but it's still on my mind. I am replying again just to let you know that I haven't forgotten. It just that making videos hasn't been the "biggest fire" to fight on my list of things I need (and want) to do. This coming week is my last week of the Spring Semester for my community college nutrition course. I'm hoping that things will quiet down a bit with that "off my plate."

@BarbaraBaker, I will try to recreate this sandwich again in the next couple of weeks while I’m staying in California with our oldest. I’ll do my best to write everything down so that I can share it as a recipe. I’m adding a note to my ToDo List that you, in particular, have asked about it so that I will make sure to let you know when the deed is done.
