    Good carbs: whole/intact, still have their water and fiber
    Bad carbs: refined (natural water and fiber removed), added fat, added sugar

      Very good distinction. Your guide works 9/10 times. The next, finer level of looking at this could be as follows: 1) figuring out the carbs that work best for your body (through experimentation and awareness) 2) also selecting carbs that are lower in anti-nutrients like lectins/phytic acid (this is an argument for choosing something like long-grain white rice over brown rice). But these are the weeds we're getting into here :-) Big picture you present is most important by far.

      Hey Oncle! Yes, here is the recipe that my wife makes in her Instapot:
      Balduzzi Black Bean Chili Recipe - Ingredients Needed:
      1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
      ½ cup water
      1 yellow onion (minced)
      1 green or red pepper (chopped, optional)
      1 can of diced green chilis
      2 cans of organic black beans
      1 cup frozen organic corn
      1 pouch of taco seasoning (roughly 2-3 tbsp)
      2 tsps cacao powder (sprinkled on top)
      1 can of fire roasted tomatoes
      Instructions: Add the ingredients into your Insta Pot (in the ‘top-down’ order listed above).
      Do NOT stir. Turn IP to Manual/Pressure Cooker on HIGH for 6 minutes. Once done cooking, release pressure & enjoy.
      Serving Size: 2-4 people. Tastes great with a side of quinoa & fresh guacamole.
      You may be able to make this in a slow cooker too. We just use the pressurized instapot and it's fantastic every time.

    Im cutting out bad sugar from my diet but i've noticed a trend of starchy carbs being villainized, blamed for diabetes etc. They seem to include any potatoes including sweet potatoes, and brown rice or long grain. Is this based in truth do you think? I'm struggling to know what to eat, there is so much conflicting information.

      @Fitfatherproject  Před rokem +3

      Hey Curtis, thanks for writing in and great question! And you are right that carbs have been villainized recently but what's important to remember are that not all carbs are created equal. For example, the ones in this video are full of fiber, nutrients, and won't spike your blood sugar compared to their counterparts (i.e. sugar or empty carbs). Choosing healthy ones to help fuel your day and keep you satiated can, and should be, part of a healthy lifestyle.

    • @Fitfatherproject
      @Fitfatherproject  Před rokem +1

      Hey Kleio, thanks for writing in and glad you are enjoying our videos! The larger dinner/digestion issues can be a real problem though a good way to help mitigate this is by taking an evening stroll after dinner. Not only will this aid in the digestion, you can blunt any blood sugar spikes, while also helping exposure your eyes to the darkening sky to help promote better sleep. • @Fitfatherproject
      @Fitfatherproject  Před 2 lety +1

      Overall: good to go! It's ideal if they were pressure cooked to reduce lectins. You can also heat them with some kombu seaweed which has enzymes that help break down the gas forming contents of beans.

    Great content Dr, at least I do consume similar carbs you mentioned,but I get gas if I consume red kidney beans, what could be the reason? Thank you about long grain white rice I didn't know that,from South Africa 🇿🇦 Joburg South

    • @Fitfatherproject
      @Fitfatherproject  Před 2 lety +3

      I experience the same thing Cyril! Part of the gas comes from the fact that red kidney beans are rich in the type of fiber that gut bacteria ferment. That said... if you experience unusually high amounts of gas with red kidney beans vs. other kids... it's good to note that red kidney beans are VERY high in lectins (a type of anti-nutrient that can harm your gastrointestinal tract). I would suggest you soak your red kidney beans overnight with cold water before cooking (and ideally pressure cook or boil them which breaks down the lectins further).
      You can also heat/simmer your beans with kombu seaweed, which contains enzymes that break down gas-causing compounds in beans. This should make them easier to digest!
      Here's some info if you'd like to read up on lectins some more: www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/anti-nutrients/lectins/#:~:text=%5B6%5D%20Lectins%20are%20water%2D,disables%20the%20action%20of%20lectins.

    • @Fitfatherproject
      @Fitfatherproject  Před 2 měsíci

      I know a lot of people do great on carnivore. The big benefit there would be removing all the inflammatory carbs / grains and focusing on nutrient dense animal foods. I do think there is added benefit to having fiber. The fiber feeds your gut microbiome which product a lot of beneficial byproducts (like butyrate which decreases inflammation), the soluble fiber binds cholesterol… and the fiber containing veggies and fruits have a lot of other beneficial phytochemicals. Humans may not “need” fiber… but health is enhanced by having it in there.

    This is the wrong information about white rice. White rice is full of starch and starch means sugar. If you are diabetic or pre-diabetic (usually over 45) never consume rice. Also if you are young and have no health problem, it is better to reduce rice from your diet and replace it with something healthier.

    I need 4000 cals a day. How the bleep am I going to do that by eating healthy

    • @Fitfatherproject
      @Fitfatherproject  Před 2 měsíci

      Figure out your go to carbs… the ones that agree well with your body and you can eat mass quantity of (examples: basmati rice, sweet potato, quinoa, etc). You’ll want to cook this in bulk and have a large portion of these carbs with your main meals of the day.
      Focus on healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, grass fed butter… put that stuff on everything. It’s the easiest way to add calories with little food volume.
      You’re probably going to get 150-200g protein with your 4000 calories. Choose protein sources that also have natural fat (chicken thigh, salmon, 85% ground beef). These would be better options for you than super lean meats (chicken breast / turkey breast).
      If you tolerate dairy, drink organic full fat milk. Ideally goat’s milk… as it has unique casein proteins that are healthier for humans than cows.
      This will help bro! You can do this healthy.

    Why do people say bananas are not good for diet?

    • @Fitfatherproject
      @Fitfatherproject  Před 2 lety +12

      Great question Brian! Bananas totally can be part of a healthy diet. The reason people tend to "pick on" bananas is that they have relatively fewer powerful vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals (say compared to wild berries)... relative to the amount of sugar they contain. 1 large banana has ~17g sugar... whereas 1 cup of raspberries has only 5g sugar. Overall: fruit can be a super good addition to your healthy meal plan... you just want to choose the most "bang for your buck" nutritional fruits. Bananas also have very little water (and lower fiber) content relative to some other fruits... so they are "dense"... and you could easily eat 3 bananas without necessarily having the same satiety as having much less of another fruit type.
      Interestingly too... as bananas are unripe (more green)... they have a SUPER BENEFICIAL type of fiber in them that feeds healthy gut bacteria. Green tipped bananas are the BEST TIME to enjoy them for this special fiber they contain. As the banana ages to (and past) ripeness, that fiber gets fermented into sugars & sugar alcohols... and actually increases the sweetness of the banana.
      Here are times that bananas are great:
      -- Post exercise (for good carb refuel)
      -- Green tipped banana anytime for a snack for the powerful fiber.
      Probably more info than you bargained for lol. This nutrition stuff gets pretty nuanced when we get into the details of specific foods. I hope this helps :-)

    Carbs are fuel for the body. At the start you say low carb is a good thing then say carbs are great. 🤔

    • @Fitfatherproject
      @Fitfatherproject  Před 2 lety

      The right kinds of carbs can definitely be FANTASTIC FUEL for the body for most people. That said, everyone has a different metabolism / gut microbiome... and, as such, some people respond differently to certain nutrition setups (low carb vs high carb). Some people find they feel substantially better on low carb.
      Our Fit Father Meal Plan approach is balanced by design: Prioritize high quality proteins, plenty of healthy fats, and the right portions of clean, slow-burning carbs (more at certain times).
