Sunday the 14th of July saw me in the picturesque Glen Nevis in the heart of the Mamores, to climb Stob Bán & Mullach Nan Coirean. These are two of the finest Munros to climb on a perfect day, and with the mighty Ben Nevis towering in the background, you just know you are somewhere truly special. The day before had seen me trying to bag Stob Na Doire on the Buachaille Etive Mór, but I was denie...

On the Friday of the 12th of July I headed up to Glencoe to give my friend Jack an excuse to try out his new camper van. Jack has only ever climbed the Buachaille and that was in 1991 and his effort back then proved fruitless as he was denied a view.Along for the journey was another friend called Hammy. Hammy had never climbed any Scottish Mountains let alone a Munro, so what better one to star...

A brilliant and memorable day climbing the Munro Beinn Sgulaird. I had first seen this stunning looking Munro 16 months earlier from the route up to the summit of Beinn Fhionnlaidh. Back then it had it's winter coat on and looked even more dramatic, imposing and impressive. Walk Highlands describes the panoramic view from the summit of Beinn Sgulaird as being as good a view as you can possibly ...

    Douglas, thank you so much for your beautiful, respectful video. I think you honored the victims of this horrific tragedy in a lovely way, by taking us around Lockerbie, and by signing the remembrance book. Every year I remember the souls who were tragically taken in such a heartbreaking manner. Tomorrow will mark 35 years. One day, I hope to visit Lockerbie and remember all the victims. God bless them all, and God bless the people of Lockerbie.

    Thanks for climbing up there Doug! It’s the only way I’ll ever get to experience that route. I had to look away a couple of times, to avert an episode of vertigo! Glencoe is dear to my lowland heart! Driving through the Glen, when much younger. Parking on the A82 car park. Piper at the side of the road. Then some years later, hiking up to the lost valley, and then back down. Then even more years later, parking in the same car park before running and hiking the glens of Glencoe and Bidean Nam Bian. Exploring the pap of Glencoe Sgorr na Ciche, having ingested pancakes laden with special mushroom’s. Enhancing the surroundings even more. Looking forward to returning soon, now that I have a nine year old son, I’ve survived blood cancer, and have a new lease of life, and Glencoe is an extremely special place to me. I feel I must return, and take my boy into the Glencoe. Thanks again Douglas. I admire your fortitude, in ascending that rock by yourself. Fabulous!

    Hi Douglas, enjoyed your video as I'm off to climb Stac Pollaidh in a few weeks time. The reason I chose it was to get views of Suilven which is just to far away in boggy land for me to get to and back in a day, as the nearest car park is what 6m away. I should have done it when I was your age. Yes I know Sheila Hancock climbed it in her 80's but I'm sure she was well looked after and probably got a helicopter to the start of the climb 😉 How do the views from the top of Stac Pollaidh compare from the top of Suilven?

    • @DouglasGilgallon
      @DouglasGilgallon Před 2 lety

      Hi and thanks for stopping by to leave a nice comment. You are right about the walk in to Suilven, it’s a bit of trek compared to the easy access to Stac Pollaidh from the car park. Each mountain has its own merits, and the views from either are just as impressive as is that entire landscape up there. Stac Pollaidh was a great adventure with plenty of scrambling once up on top, and the view across to the majestic Suilven is something to behold. I hope you have great weather and even better views on the day! Douglas 😁🙌🏼

    Great video from a great hill. One of my favourites. You were actually pointing out Beinn a'Bheithir and not Bidean nam Bian & Beinn Fhionnlaidh though.

    Good video thanks for your story. Watching on the 33rd anniversary. I remember the image of the cockpit of the Pan Am 747 plane "Clipper maid of the seas" in the field the most. I was just a kid, watching on the TV. Always stayed with me that image.

    The nose cone should have been incorporated into a permanent memorial. Definitely a well done video. :)

    I lost my father, he was in the plane. I never went to Lockerbie, but I just watched your video, and I think I will. Thank you for everything.

      It was an appalling act of wickedness from deranged terrorists who killed 270 people delibarately in southern scotland. Your film in and around lockerbie was extremely factual and accurate. R.i.p. to the victms of that horrible fateful event it was grotesque.
