  • A vlog of my trip to climb Pen Y Fan and it's neighbouring peak of Corn Du. During a recent holiday to Ross on Wye, I took advantage of the predicted great day weather, to drive into Wales and climb Pen Y Fan, the 2nd highest mountain in Wales.
Pen y Fan (/pɛn ə ˈvæn/) is the highest peak in south Wales, situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park. At 886 metres (2,907 ft) above sea-level, it is also the highest British peak south of Cadair Idris in Snowdonia. The twin summits of Pen y Fan and Corn Du at 873 m (2,864 ft) were formerly referred to as Cadair Arthur or 'Arthur's Seat'.[1]

Nice film Douglas! Ive been to Wales quite a few times with my Dad, But always we stayed up the north which is very beautiful. Think i could see the Brecons from the M5 motorway on the way back from Cornwall, They do look good i must admit. Glad you had a good holiday, All the best mate. peter.

      Thanks Pete,
I had always wanted to climb Tryfan, but that was over 2 hours away from where I was staying. Maybe another time.
Thanks for the encouragement as always brother.
Hope you see your next instalment very soon.

Nice one Douglas! I've only ever been to Cardiff so haven't been out in the welsh countryside before but from the look of your vid, it looks stunning! Thanks for sharing! Kris.

Hi Kris, yeah, some stunning countryside and Corn Du & Pen Y Fan had very accessible summits within a short space of time (2/ 1/2 hrs up and down). Would recommend, but on a quiet day like I had. Saw a vlog taken two days later on the Saturday and the cars were stretched out along the road.
Looking forward to your next instalment Kris.
      Keep climbing,
      Douglas. 😁🙌🏼⛰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Just come back to your great and inspiring CZcams channel. Pen y Fan is one of my favourite walks and I"ve climbed it several times. If you start from what is called Storey Arms on the A470 you can use a bypass path which means you can keep your hands in your pockets all the way to the top of Corn Du. If you're interested in Wales you might consider doing some stretches of the Cambrian Way which visits all the main mountain tops, including Pen y Fan. There is a new guidebook to the Cambrian Way published by Cicerone. I have three videos showing parts of the Way on my channel or look at the great Cambrian Way videos of CZcams user 3 Walking Poles. Keep up the great videos of your climbs!

Hi Ross, thanks for the comments and additional advice. I had limited time that day as I was dropped off and was being picked back up a few hours later, but the loop looked brilliant. Saw a video of a wild camp on the Dragons back I’m sure last year. Will definitely be back down for sure.
      Best Regards,
      Douglas 😁🙌🏼⛰

Myself and the Malamute Bowser went up Ben Lawers last sat. Less of a long slog than Ben lomond but the final steep push to the top of Lawers was not easy on the dog. In fact this might be his last one. Trying to work out what Munro to hit this Sat solo. No more than 90min from Linlithgow. Any suggestions ? Oh and your vid gets a instant thumbs up for having a kitten, Squirrel and goat in it. 😍😂😂😂

Hi Grant, firstly thanks for the positive feedback. I get more excited about filming animals then anything else. There were whole families of wild horses on the slopes up to Pen Y Fan but the GoPro couldn’t capture them and I didn’t think to just use my phone! 🤪
Difficult to recommend a Munro that I’ve not done before, but Ben Chonzie is about 1hr drive from Linlithgow and I know from reading, and from a friend of mine who is saving it for his 100th so his grandson and family can go along, that’s it’s a very easy going climb up.
Check it out if you’ve not done it already.
Let me know how you get on.
