No gimmicks, genuinely useful features, Ford did a VERY good job with this truck
@Strange Mystified honestly don't bother
@Don't Read My Profile Photo I’ll look
Now if they can redo the Mustang Mach E to make it look more like a Mustang.
If they won’t scale it’s just useless and a coffin for Ford.. don’t forget they hemorrhaging money in every EV they selling

My first thought for that front trunk is TOOLS TOOLS. Saves precious space in the truck bed, keeps them out of the elements and locked away from thieves. And you can charge tool batteries etc... in there. Contractors will love that!
Couldn’t agree more. Hopefully as battery technology keeps improving, Ford will put out a 500 mile range version.
@@ElectricMeatBag yes! Range is still a bit short for what I want in an electric car but 500+ range I’m sold
@@ElectricMeatBag yup there's also new types of battery tech so in the future even 600+ miles will be doable.
@@ElectricMeatBag @SKAOG honestly considering this is a first model I think it’s safe to assume there’s a lot of improvement in terms of range in hopefully the near future. I can’t wait to see where we are in 10 years.

Oh hello Moga, didn't expect to see you here!
You Season 4

I’m glad to see solid electric versions of staple vehicles. Ever since the Prius, too many have just been ugly.
Honestly that was deliberate. Ford was asking around about this Truck during development with it's consumers, and since that was around the same time the Cybertruck was announced, you want to bet what was the single most requested thing?
"For F*** sake, make it look like a Truck." So they did that, mostly.
And this isn’t ugly?
I'm a little unsure about the range on this. since it sits higher and is longer than a tesla I would expect it to be able to have the same maximum range of 350 especially since it could essentially fit a larger battery cell.
I had a dream that Toyota released a Prius GR and it was an electric golf cart with a rocket strapped to the top
Which ones are ugly? Oh u mean the Nissan Leaf lol
And this is the key to mass EV adoption - keep everything else familiar. Buyers don't want weird and unfathomable controls, bizarre door handles and steering jokes, but they will quickly fall in love with the EV powertrain, once they try it out. Great review!
😂😂There will never be “mass adoption” of EVs with current batt tech. Most consumers are smart enough to realize this.
@@Fluterrayou say that but in california 25% of cars are EVs. With better charging infrastructure it’s definitely possible

I received my Lightning in October, have put 113000 miles on it and i truly love it for many of the same reasons you state in the video. I had a Ram before and jumped on day 1 to reserve the lightning when it was announced. So happy to be an EV and F150 owner!
Any issues?
no, it really has been great for me after 13K miles.
Wannabe adopter question: How do I charge this truck as a city apartment renter with no EV-friendly parking lots near my neighborhood? And no, moving is not an option for me.
@@johnnyblue07You can use a 110 plug and charge. But if you do not have a space to charge it, then perhaps weekly you can recharge, depending. I use my garage and charge there. Even with 110 I get about 10% charge a night... I don't typically do long trips. Best wishes in getting one!

I want to test this out
That has been something of a thing with the Lighting, I blame inside EV's for that spreading.

"I've been putting human bodies in it for about 3 weeks...."
It works I tried
Man I love when Marques surprises us with "we actually used another F-150 lightning to shoot the road shots" or "actually we shot this whole video on so and so phone". Gets me hyped every time
What phone was this shot on? This is probably the most useful kind of camera review lol. Dynamic range wasn’t too great here imo.

The fact that this and the Rivan exists really makes it a hard sell for the Cybertruck. Outside of looking different (which people will absolutely buy it for), the Cybertruck really has a huge hill to climb when it comes to its competition.
Lmao this is gold
I don't think so 😂
I would rather have this than the Cybertruck. The CyberTruck just looks like it wasn't designed by those who drive trucks. The F-150 Lightning would be so cool with a camper shell and go camping in it.
The F-150 ‘Crew Cabs’ are so popular because it’s like a SUV with a small pick-up bed. Which is why we stopped buying Expeditions 6 years ago & instead started buying the Crew Cab F-150’s.
Really loved the scenery for this one.
I noticed that too!
Looks like New Jersey or upstate NY.
All the pro cameras work exceptionally well in outdoor environment, amazing!
The Lightning just seems so well designed in so many different aspects. The fact that a company with the footprint of Ford appears to have nailed it this early could be big for EV adoption. Hopefully that spurs some renewable energy investments.
I'll agree as soon as I see broad availability. We've had a lot of paper launches in the last couple years.
TOYOTA is the best selling truck in USA
@@randomasiankid017 No. The F150 is both the best selling Car 2021 in the USA and (indeed) the best selling truck. Plus Toyota is not a truck, it's a company.

@@randomasiankid017 No the F150 has been the single best selling vehicle in the US for decades. That's not an opinion, they have data lol

Promise this Truck will NOT last 4 years of normal wear and tear that people put normal trucks under, we are just not there yet,
If we didn’t live in a rural area and if my dad didn’t drive a ton in a day, I would totally try to convince him to get this. Is passenger and back seats are full of tools as well as the bed. That extra space in the frunk would be great for him
yeah, the infrastructure just isn't there yet, unfortunately.
Drove one of these the other day and I absolutely loved it!!

MKBHD is the best CZcamsr there is.
Is it just me or is the outdoor scenery in the video a very nice take in an MKBHD video?
I’d be down to see more of this, natural lighting, etc.
I see the pun "lightning"
Why don't you just rim him... Omg talk about kissing ass 🤦🏿♂️
Have you seen the Transport Evolved review? They like the lightning so much that they got a loan & bought one to use as their production truck.
And I just wish that Ford had released it in Europe! I know the F150 in the UK & it is sort of too big for UK roads, but I a huge human & it would be great for me!!
I suspect that as Blue Cruise improves that living with its over sized nature in the UK would be manageable!
I liked the outdoor scenery but I’m being absolutely genuine, I was thinking in the middle of the video that I wished the lighting was a little better. Cleaner and warmer like most of his other videos, yk. Although I do like the change in scenery for sure
@@Smoke--- i dont remember where he mentions this but all the autofocus episodes are filmed on smartphones, which explains the "worse" quality
That’s definitely one of the best looking brand new vehicles I’ve ever seen. I’m used to it right away
Guy test driving this truck came to our store about 3-4ish months ago, we were impressed when he gave us a tour, main thing I liked was the full spare they come with and the amount of outlets it has, the only things I was disappointed to learn about it was the 300mi range which is good, but some of my trips consist of 400ish mi while hauling, around 600-5000lb, at least it's cheaper to charge than gasoline, otherwise a ramp would've been cool instead of the stairs, ramps helped a ton more before we got a f-350 with a lift gate
ya but were are you gonna charge if your on a work site or going to one ? not everyone lives in california
I feel like *this* will be the truck that gets people in more rural areas finally into EVs. There is still a Prius stigma about all EVs amongst many of those people, and the fact that so many of the people I talk to are excited about this truck shows a huge shift from that thinking.
Yep. The main problem EVs in rural areas are the roads. Most current EVs are too low to the ground, on too thin of tires and made from too light of materials, and they do nothing but get beat up while being driven out here. The F150 has generated quite the buzz now and was already out 2 yrs on preorders with in months of being announced.
You're probably right about the acceptance, although a pretty large percentage of Rural America won't have $90K for a truck. For a better tractor, no doubt, but probably not for a pickup. But I want one, now! 👍🏼😎✌🏼
Rural areas shouldnt buy such a car, huge waste of money, and unnecessarily big for almost everyone
@@gus473 - Have you seen the trucks we buy out here? $90k is 'normal'. In any case, they start at $40 for the LT version.
the real problem is the range. Considering the max range is 320 miles, I’d imagine you wouldn’t get very far if you’re towing something.
For comparison, in my f150 not towing, I get about 600 miles on a full tank. If I’m towing my boat, it’s more like 300-350.
I've never been interested in owning a truck until now. I feel like, on paper, they did everything right with the lightning and I would love to have one
The only problem is infrastructure. Tesla Superchargers are way better than alternatives.
@@YoosufMuneer most people charge their vehicle at home at night, with that range it won't be problem, infrastructure isn't good as tesla but its there, it won't be big problem for most people.

I can't see Ford losing this battle of the EVs. Their entire strategy just makes way more sense. Take the familiar and old, bring it into the future. Simple.
The problem they are going to run into is the fact that they still can’t turn a profit on EV’s
@@jadenhalstead7290 they can't?

Ford losing money on evs? You gotta lose money to make money. If you wait without investing in the future. You’re be left behind. Japan is not playing around. Tesla is not a playing around. These new laws is pushing all cars to electric.
They’ll lose the battle if they don’t do a better job with upgrading the chargers

I wouldn't want a moon buggy truck , I want something that looks and performs like this one . perfect .
For a lot of F-150 owners, I think the Frunk is reason enough to switch, especially if you have a utility box in your bed. I'd guess there are some people who would be able to go from a 6.5 ft bed to the 5.5 ft bed just because they can lose the utility box. I've been wanting to buy a truck, but will probably hold off until I can get the Lightning, specifically because of the Frunk. They'll probably be able to get people who wouldn't buy a truck because of the secure storage issues. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. I think they're going to steal a good amount of orders from Tesla.
I think this is going to be the biggest thing right here. Also, imagine the cost it would to be get your truck bed tool boxes on a 'central locking system' with your key fob. With the Frunk, you now have all of your tool storage on that central locking system. OR keyless entry. Imagine the bragging rights you would have if you had utility boxes in your truck with keyless entry. LOL
I would buy one today but it will be years before ford catches up with demand.
Hey they supposedly say you'll get a 2023 version of all their trucks if you order now(due to can't order a 2022) by quarter 3 or 4 of 2023 :).
Ford: the bed has 1.5million cubic feet of capcity. But, you need stilts to access the bed from anywhere but the tailgate.
Also Ford: didn’t fix the problem with bed access. But here’s this massive gaping compartment with ergonomic access that doesn’t need to be in the front of the vehicle, because its an EV
But thats ok 👌: because bigger always equals better 😉
Hey there I have a Question In Electric pickup trucks How much range you will get When towing something 🤔
As an electric car nerd, I've always looked at the EV marketplace as the best place for companies to switch up how we think about cars. This Ford F-150 is the first of all of these to make me go, "huh. Maybe there is a little something to how things have been done." And to me, it looks like the single most compelling EV option for anyone and everyone that *doesn't* care about EVs. Which, I should add, is the only way mass adoption is ever going to become a reality as fast as we need it to be. Great coverage, Marques.
we don't "need it to be", you are a brainwashed child.
I've been looking at EV's for a while and thinking that people will never adopt them until they look and act as similar to what they're used to driving as possible.

I was at a bar in Cleveland last fall, and when I randomly got into a convo with a really vanilla-seeming non-tech dude, I found out even tho he didn’t care much about pc parts, video games, or crypto, but preferred sports, camping & rock climbing, he had reserved an F-150 Lighting. This really is the most important car for the future of cars, bc it’s electrifying a whole segment of the collective fleet which would never have considered going EV otherwise.
Out here in CA, it’s definitely the environmentally conscious that actually own non-Tesla electric cars, not tech bros!
Crypto bros really will inject it into everything they think about
Definitely me, I'd love an F-150 that wasn't a gas hog.

Hello everyone, I need help studying in the US 🙏🏼
Most of the questions I see about towing, sure it can tow a lot, but not very far.... and having to charge with a trailer, well let's see that debacle... I'll do a comparison with my F350 turbo diesel when I get hold of a Lightning 👍💪
Towing with an EV truck is still a bit ways away I believe. Will it happen? Quite possibly. Will we see extra batteries in trailers to achieve longer distances? Quite possibly. Will this F150 be very popular and most folks who use their trucks as grocery getters, drive to/from work, haul kids around be getting one? Very much so. For those like you (and me), we'll have to wait. My RAM 3/4 ton is perfect for hauling and towing and there's no way I'll replace any time soon. Charging infrastructure (especially with a trailer as you mention) is still far away. However, I'm honestly very impressed with this truck and can't wait to see what other brands will be doing. I'm very much with you on this...
@@emanuelneiconi i think you hit the nail right on the head. As you saw in the video, most people aren't towing, they're just using it for everyday use and to look cool. The Lightning definitely has a market

Can't stand having A/C controls on a touchscreen. Physical buttons and knobs are better so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. Other than that it's a nice truck. Don't really like the grill either though
The base model has physical knobs for climate control. IMO it's the most appealing version.
yeah volkswagen has the same disease of touch buttons everywhere which is just stupid for a car for the reason you named. but i assume they will go back to physical buttons because i never heard anyone speaking positive about the touch stuff in cars
I have knobs in my car, but I leave the climate control at one setting and there it stays. Defrost however really must have a real button.
Debs husband says some models that have the touch screen are having problems with the screen freezing up and lack of function. To me vehicles today are just too complicated. Over the top electronics, multi layered functions that requires an owner's manual the size of a book. I guess I am old fashioned. I like the simple and direct approach. With all of the new solutions come a new set of problems.
@@NOBODY-oq1xr I drive a Tesla, i do like the touch controls on my model 3. However the latest major update changed the layout around so now its pretty much trying to relearn swiping up for the controls for AC. I do think that physical buttons should be an option if the potential customer does want physical buttons. I hate the yolk in the new S/X models and I hope they release a regular steering wheel for the cybertruck.
Great video, small thought, maybe it would be a useful idea to add this video to the auto focus channel as well, as it was the place I looked to see if there was a f150 video available but didnt find it there, than ran a yt search and this was the first result :D

The future is here! Looking forward to the continued innovation from automakers. Pretty soon it will be tough to find a full combustion vehicle that isn’t at least a hybrid. As it should be!
Nice review. I bought one and absolutely love it. There is room for improvement, but less room (I'd say) than with a standard ICE vehicle. And each generation will get better and better--it's early days. Exciting time to be a car person if you care about this stuff.
So nice of Marques to review cars by these lesser known brands!
Wait Marques what about the Rivian
You think Ford is a lesser known brand? 🤦♂️ The f150 is the best selling vehicle in the entire fucking United States 😂
@Don't Read My Profile Photo ok
Lesser known brands? It's Ford, the most famous car company on the planet.
Ford is not a lesser known brand 😂
The first 36 seconds of this video!!! (The intro)..wow! just wow 🔥
Your choice of words and music, at the same time, is unmatched. Top top stuff there.
what was the song ??
@@finn7530 I need to know as well. Someone please!
@@finn7530 if you find out let me know. I've been searching everywhere
@@BenjiiiB1 no such luck, i even asked reddit and got nothing. what i learned is that sometimes MKBHD gets music specifically for him, so the song itself might not even be released…
@@finn7530 that's a huge shame. That's a road trip tune if I ever heard one
I want one 😍
Been a proud Ford truck owner all my life
My wife has a 2016 F150 5L V8, and I have a 2022 F350 7.3L V8 (for our camper). The torque output on that F150 lightening is greater than my gas F350 with the deepest final drive rear end that you can get.
With that said, the Lightening is going to present problems for anyone towing a camper or anything that acts like a large wind sail. That resistance is going to trounce the battery (no way). As an around-town work truck, this thing is a game changer. Imagine a farmer who works their land and drives into town… game changer.
For long-distance towing, it’s just not gonna do it, though.
Either way, I can’t help but want one.
FINALLY someone reviews a vehicle in exactly the way I want to see it. No wasting my time with comments about the style and the trim and all that, just gobs of good information delivered smoothly and succinctly. Thanks, and yeah, I even subscribed.
I honestly want to watch to the longer version of this review, this was so well done. I am keen on the tech capabilities
Same I’d like to see more of the inside of the truck
What I really miss and was expecting is the taillight silhouette fade out. I think you should do that with all your Auto Focus video’s.
Never seen an actual F150 Lightning (Ford is very rare where I live) but I have to say the truck looks amazing and it has so many useful features.
The backup battery is especially useful and should be something that all EVs offer as an option (along with solar charging). 30kWh a day is extremely generous (I've lived with around 7 to 10 kWh for quite a while and it's more than enough to use everything along with a few hour's of AC usage).
So many great things about this truck! Range is still an issue. Some gas-powered trucks have a 24 gallon tank (or bigger). That would be equivalent to a 250 kWh battery, and we're not remotely close to that yet.
300 miles of range is actually terrible
@@georgejungle138 Yeah, especially if that's without pulling a trailer. Ideally future electric trucks have like a 350 kwh battery or maybe even 400 kwh battery which would allow over 600 miles of range without a trailer and maybe 300 miles of range with a trailer.
lessee. A standard gas truck pulling a trailer gets 8-10 mpg. 24 gallons equals a range of 192-240 miles.
Oh the humanity!
Jesus.
I personally think they should be making EV vehicles smaller not larger if they actually expect mass adoption any time soon. This will remain a niche market until they realize they need to win over consumers by maxing out efficiency with small commuters and not fail at copying already successful big vehicles like full size pickups.
Thanks MKB for your objective review, so short, simple and straight to the point. I have always thought of the F-150 as a pacesetter, others come in to copy like the new Chevy EV truck, the front and rear lightbars, electrical outlets and frunk 😀. Your review again is on point 👍🏽
Great video mate cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
You forgot to include the feature in your review on the Lucid Air. One of the best features of that EV is that it's a two-way charger, so you can charge a car with another car and the car can power the house for up to 3 days if the power goes out.
I love these types of reviews that focus on livabily features in a car. The way cars drive and accelerate and brake are important but since I spend most of my time in a car commuting, and not joyriding I would also like most of the review to focus on quality of life aspects and not engine sounds and cornering feel.
May I just say that the intro-scene looked absolutely brilliant, purely spectacular.
I need that truck in my life
Out of all the electric cars available today, I could definitely see myself driving that.
