- Rivian R1T is a quad motor adventurous electric compact pickup truck. I've run out of adjectives. But this truck is incredibly fun.

I work at Rivian in Illinois, and it’s hands down the best company I’ve ever worked for! Every employee is very determined to see this company thrive. I’m glad to see that people are enjoying the vehicles.
This is GREAT! It's such a breath of fresh air to see comments of employees who really love the companies they work for.
How are you guys addressing the body panel misalignment on the production runs?
Do you know when their going to start delivering orders to real paying customers?
@@whatdoesnt They have a long road ahead to figure out how to scale.
@@FJB2020 For sure, and if you look into their IPO filing it’s revealed that Amazon owns about 1/4 of the company, has a lot of control/say and has the right to prioritize fulfillment of their orders first. I was one of the first to pre-ordered a R1S but it’s just frustrating to see more details come out that suggest they might not even get into mass production of the SUV until 23/24.
Rivian has checked almost all the boxes. This should be really fun and I hope Rivian does well in the market.
I been waiting for one on the r1t. it is here
They already have Amazon and even Ford backing them up
They could have had the name spelled out in the empty space between the headlights
But that's a business opportunity for aftermarket
Hope they don't end it like Boosted! Great product, but to ramp up the production is the hardest!
This is the first ever EV that ever made my Jaw Drop and it was for minutes straight! Just straight up amazing. Hope this company achieves success and i hope i could buy one of their products!
I love the size, not to offensively large and not too impractically small. Storage facilities are great and that tunnel thing is epic. The screen isn't in-your-face too large. And really good ground clearance.
My two criticisms are: no physical buttons for simple things like heater, stereo; and some of the interior plastic is just too cheap.
The tunnel would be great for rifle cases etc when hunting.
I feel like the tunnel is for skiing
Will you love the 70K plus price on it for such a small truck?? Not me.
Would love this. Actually more than cyber truck. Love the touches and the way it's not so way out. And that tunnel storage.....
@@hmc2s Yes, actually. Quad Motor. 800hp. 0-60 in 3 seconds. 5 Ton towing capacity. Air Suspension. It's more than worth the cash. Meanwhile it sounds like you're compensating for something.

Why tho u gotta wait if u don't wait u dont get it ( just a joke )
Hi sandy
There is always that language which reveals a hidden meaning of some car names. In this case if you use a lot of Swedish dad humor You could spell the name Rivian like “Rivjärn” which is a cheesegrater 🧀. 🇸🇪 hehe
I can’t wait too, to see what make this truck tick
And wait you will.
One thing that people always forget to mention is that you can stop at ANY campground that has a NEMA 14-50 outlet and charge your Rivian (or Tesla). The only Caveat is that you will usually need to rent an RV spot to get the power outlet.
Thanks to some close ups and decent footage, I can see that this truck was built with care using some nice materials for a premium feel. I think RJ has shown us that quality is important and what people want after spending 70k upwards. I liked everything shown on this video, I'm genuinely excited about this vehicle, its got such classic lines that won't look out of date like some of the other brands coming out. A timeless design. I can't wait to drive one!

As a Texan, the problem I see with that statement is that most people I know that drive trucks think electric vehicles are garbage, look down them, and would never buy one.
@@PacoRobbins but Tesla has his factory in Texas now. His Cyber truck is coming.....soon
Probably not - it's not quickly accessible from the cabin. The little pocket / drawer under the front seats could maybe hold a pistol though.
Dual cab utes are the best selling vehicles in Australia
That’s what I was thinking: who’s the market for this? It’s certainly not your typical F150 crowd but it isn’t Tesla’s market either
I really just wish they would standardize these charging experiences and stations just for sustainability sake
I've been wondering about that too. Absolutely they need to be standardized. Anyway, who is this truck for?
It's a good indication that sustainability is being used for marketing and actual sustainability has taken a step back :/

10:50 The guys from Motor Trend took two of these across the country in a 5-part video you can find on youtube. In one of the episodes they had mentioned that because of how quiet it is, when they were blazing unpaved trails, there was just so much nature they were immersed in. Animals wouldn't scurry away, deer would just walk along with you, unlike a combustion engine that would make noise and get the animals to run away. Basically its a great way for those that like to get out in nature, open the windows and just be closer to that nature than ever.
until one of those deer stoves your front end in as your cruising down a backroad because your vehicles so ninja quiet, hehe.
Totally agree - under appreciated and another benefit of being all-electric.
Being so quiet can be a safety issue because pedestrians can't hear you coming. My neighbor has a hybrid Toyota SUV with a built in nose option. It makes a weird sound sort of like a Star Trek transporter whenever the car is moving.

Well, that's me out, then!
They are targeting the Land Rover market or the premium truck market. This allows Ford and Rivian to co-exist without targeting each others demographic.
I'm a huge EV supporter and a first-day Tesla Model 3 reservation holder, but EV prices are heading the wrong way. I've never spent more than $28,000 on a car, all I want is a nice hatchback or small crossover with 200 miles range. So the Kia Soul EV or an updated Nissan Leaf without the dying CHAdeMO plug would be fine. But the 2020 Soul EV never made it to the USA and Nissan is replacing the Leaf with the $40,000+ 2022 Ariya. Instead everyone wants to sell $50,000+ electric SUVs and now trucks; the trailing automakers have the tax credit to make it slightly more affordable if you pay enough taxes.
I'm glad most car makers are selling all the EVs they can make, I don't fault Tesla for raising prices, and at those prices established car makers should make money and continue EV investments. But it makes EVs less affordable, and leaves a huge hole in the market for Chinese manufacturers.

this is epic.haven't been this excited about a car or vehicle in general since the ferrari enzo.i looove all the neat features especially the "hidden" storage space.
Rivian has gone way above and beyond on intentional design here. Just look at how many things they've included that could be so useful. No rock has been left unturned. The flashlight in the door is such an amazingly cool feature that could have been so easily overlooked. The Bluetooth speaker is amazing as well. Charging ports, compressor to inflate your own tires....my god.
I'm looking at purchasing a vehicle in the next 5-10 years and the Rivian is bang on top of the charts. I thought I was going Tesla, but Rivian has just got it made here. I really, really hope mass production does not lead to compromises that deteriorate the insane functionality of this vehicle.
As a tradesman, the 7 feet of base with the tailgate folded down is greatly appreciated. I hope there is 4' of room in between those wheel wells, but as someone who has found workarounds for carrying drywall/plywood in a Tacoma, I think I'll be ok if there isn't.
I'm keeping an eye on you guys. Seriously impressive stuff.
I think its hilarious hearing liberals say stuff like "Every vehicle should be electric". The Lighting with standard battery, advertising 230 miles, while pulling 3,500 lbs... got 70 miles of range. Now imagine if temps were 0 to -20. You'd get 30-40 miles of actual range. As of 2022, we are a long ways away from a REAL electric pickup. LOL!!!!! I'd like one of these tree hugging liberals to explain how that is going to work. Reaaaaady. Set.... Explain.

The Rivian hype was really annoying and it took so long to get to market but it is great to see this truck in real life. I hope Rivian succeeds big time.
It was really shitty hype, especially for such a mediocre vehicle at the cost. Rivian lived and breathed off of tesla hype. Now is their time to try and doggie paddle themselves to making money. I want them to succeed too, but they should have started with more intelligent options, like a delivery van. This truck is too basic and useless to be a starting premium vehicle for Rivian. I think starting with this truck is their largest mistake they have made so far as a company.
@@jf8138 how to hype with a delivery van? They are a new company and they needed hype and and they started with the most popular form factor in USA (pickup). All done correct.
@@jf8138 tbh they have alot going for them with this, if we ignore the people driving 4hours each way to work with a several ton trailer it is a very good work vehicle.

This is going to be a good seller. Workers don't need gimmicks, they need functionality.
Except the price. This is like twice the price of a conventional well loaded pick up truck. So this is going to be a rich people toy more than a worker's vehicle. Also, the 4.5 foot storage bay is just not enough. Still really nice though.
@@misteratoz Yeah, companies will be getting the F-150 Lightning over this because of price and bed length. The Rivian is targeted at the many people who buy nice trucks but don't need to run a business out of their truck.

Great review. This truck is extremely well-designed but for the software improvements needed as you mentioned. They really made a good decision with the pass-through cargo and the powered frunk. Love the optional camping setup too. Rivian still needs to solve mass production but so far so good!
I think the pass-through cargo could be used for guns as mentioned in the comments....but also shopping, maybe skis or a snowboard, ski/snowboard gear (if the boards/skis don't fit). It's such a cool space. I love that one can stand on the fold-out doors. Also, the charger being in the front is a nice touch.
Haha Americans and their guns.
As a lifelong hunter, and occasional competitive shooter, it would be really cool to have that as safe storage for rifles and shotguns. Presumably all the exterior hatches lock, but what would be even cooler would be to have the option for a combination lock of some kind on the pass-through cargo. Maybe that's an unnecessary idea, but who says that cool has to be necessary?
The Rivian R1T is just fantastic. But I will actually wait for it as you did. I really love the space keeping and makes them available enough to take all cares. Big shout out to Ravian. Let the future keep coming.
Great presentation- super cool to see it in action on the local streets! Looking forward to see how it will perform off road or with towing... very expensive and who knows how to maintain the newer technologies- thoughts?

100 miles of gasoline: 100 miles × $3 / 45 mpg = $6.66
100 miles of electricity: 100 miles × $0.11 / 3 mpkWh = $3.66
I've been following development of the R1T for YEARS... it's well outside my price range, and I want to own one someday, however, all the details in this video that haven't been easily noticed in other videos, this was quite refreshing. :)
Agreed on all counts. Marques Brownlee did a great job reviewing it!
Im in the same exact boat bud, this is the only electric vehicle that’s had my attention and I’ve watched almost any video that has info on it.
What an amazing and innovative truck. I’m definitely investing in this.
Wow, the most thorough review even though it is "not a full review". I like your attention to details. Thumbs up and nice work.
So stoked about the future of this company! It's brought so many job to Bloomington and it's great to see the (employee) parking lot at that factory full again
As an Australian born in 1980 I must say American vehicles have slowly turned their names to mud during my lifetime. The only Ford or GM cars worth buying ten years ago were European built. Between Tesla, Rivian and the new F-150 Lightning this has turned around big time. My next car will definitely be American 🇺🇸.
Agreed!! Such a cool young company.......big things ahead for sure!!

@@bigginsd1 just buy Japanese or Korean man. American cars are still not worth it
Looks great on here looks even better in person
I never thought I would say I love a pick up truck, but here I go! I loveeeeeeee this truck's; it's beautiful.
Long Way Up featured some Rivian's and they were great. I do wish that all these EV companies would get together and standardize charging.
Unfortunately that may take some form of government regulations before that happens I don't see tesla switching ports willingly or allowing others to use their port
@@kirbyofearth_3478 tesla does allow others to adapt to their charging network but no manufacturer wants to use their ports
They pretty much have in the UK and Europe. CCS all the way. By this point Chademo is pretty much dead in the water.
This is a must in the US, I have been wanting to export a Tesla model 3 from the US to my country and the only "wall" standing between me and doing that is the charging port and AC to DC charger inside the car, it does not support 3 phase 400V and the port well... we use the CCS/ type 2 standard, contacted Tesla about replacing those in the service center in Dubai if I imported a US spec one and they just shut me down and told me we don't do that even if you pay us whatever we ask. Why do I want a US spec one instead of the one being sold in Dubai Tesla showroom? Well the simple fact its much cheaper and easier to import a car from the US than one from the neighboring country ( UAE ).
Anyhow, it seems Tesla does not want to listen and are moving towards lessening their customers ability to modify their cars...
@@nightarrow7473 I once asked Audi to upgrade the head unit on my car and they refused. It was just a double DIN replacement swap. Trying to get any manufacturer to alter the charger....no chance. I can't imagine there's a single manufacturer that would agree to what you're proposing. It's not just Tesla.
for real, just looking 5 seconds at the interior, it right away feels way more welcoming and comfterable than any tesla interior
actually Tesla seats are very comfortable

Points down for copying the stupid screen based vent control... really really unesseary. No idea why the screen operates like an iPad v1. Overall, I like it. So sad they couldn'd have had a deal with the Tesla supercharger for launch. Infact, I wish Telsa had not bothered with the Cybertruck done a deal with Rivian, and just concentraded on the Semi, a wagon version of the model 3, and the rumored compact hatch along the lines of a Golf.
Great video, thanks for the info.
Aside from the EV aspect, I like how much they've incorporated into the design like the bluetooth speaker, flashlight etc.
As interesting as the CYBRTRK design is, I think this will appeal to a lot more people as long as the performance and range are there.
Not when you can get a tri motor Cybertruck for the base price of the Rivian.
@@HaroJM09 The base version of the R1T already comes as quad motor.
@@HaroJM09 depends on how good the cybertruck actually turns out to be. the specs are good but it might turn out to be shit.
@@boxr_4214 same could be said about Rivian. This is their first electric vehicle ever.
@@HaroJM09 Cybertruck will also come with 2 years of wait before you can even try it.
If it was available in Australia, and I was rich enough, I would definitely consider getting one in gun metal grey and comparing it to Fords electric Ute option as that also looked awesome. This is definitely an electric Ute I would seriously consider.
These will be hugely popular in Australia when they manage an RHD version. Price will be up there, sure, but there’s no lack of Land Cruisers, Patrols, Raptors, converted US pickups and other AUD$100K vehicles getting out. Tradies have plenty of money, clearly. I just need to figure out how to convince my boss I need one as a work vehicle… ;-)
They are already testing these Australia and I can't remember if they have approved it for sale yet.
Good luck leaving your home without the police on ya lol
@@KuroRyuu86 they did do their winter/cold-weather testing in New Zealand as well. This truck would be super popular in NZ as well I'd reckon. And we're not even that big! They could totally roll out an adventure network for fast charging here - but depends how many buy the ute. Seems like a bit of a chicken vs egg problem.

No one does better reviews than you my friend! I certainly hope companies like Rivian will find long term success!
I think this trucks design style is basically like what everyone thought the cyber truck might've looked like before it was revealed.
